“Did you notice that the guards on duty are double of what used to be there before?” Ava said scrubbing the white ties.
“Hmm.” Jessica hummed scrolling through her phone while snacking on a chocolate bar.
Ava glanced at her hearing her response, she shook her head and scoffed. “Seriously?” She snapped. “Will you listen to me!”
Jasira dropped her phone with a laugh on the island where she was sitting “Okay ma’am,” She raised her hands in surrender. “What are you saying?”
“The guards on duty are doubled or you didn’t notice?”
She rubbed her chin thinking before shaking her head. “I didn’t notice, what’s wrong with it?”
Ava sighed dropping the mop into its bucket, “I don’t know, it is so strange and did I mention it scared the shit out of me seeing men with bulky arms and broad chests.”
Jasira burst into a loud laugh. “I thought you loved them, why did they scare you?”
Ava frowned at her pouting her lips. “Stop it, I’m not joking.”
“Come on, I’m sorry__” She was cut off by the beeping sound of her phone. She glanced at the caller and her heart skipped a beat. Her mother, what was wrong?
“Are you okay?” Ava asked noticing her slumped shoulders.
Jasira mute the call before glancing up. “Nothing much, it’s my mother.” She jumped down from the island with a sigh.
“I need to take this.” She said and Ava nodded with a smile before continue mopping as she walked away.
Jasira couldn’t find the perfect reason for her mother’s call, she loved and respected her mother but since she decided not to tell her the truth, she had reduced the calls but not her allowance.
She made sure to glance left and right of the hallway before closing the door to her room, she needed to be careful, she was not ready to be in the dungeon again.
Sighing heavily, she dialed her mother’s number.
“Mom,” The words were heavy on her lips, she chewed on her lower lip as her mother took so long to answer. She was about to hang up when her voice came up.
“How are you doing?”
She was silent for a while before replying to her. “I’m okay.” Is she? She questioned herself but quickly discarded that thought. “And you?”
“That was the reason I called.”
Jasira sat upright on the bed putting the pillow in between her legs asde. “What did you mean by that? Is something wrong with you? Is it your health? Did you need more money? You should have called me earlier for god sake!” She panicked rushing her words together.
Her mother let out a low chuckle in her throat. “I’m okay, nothing is wrong with me and I don’t need more money. I just need to tell you something important before it’s too late.”
Her shoulders slumped in relief before she panicked almost immediately remembering her last words. “What did want to say?”
“The truth about your tattoo, your father’s and brother’s death, and I know about their killer but you need to be here physically.”
The phone fell off her hands from the shock of what her mother just said. “I… i.” She shuttered before taking a long breath and picking it up.
“Can you tell me on the phone? I can’t come.”
Her mother’s offer looked so tempting but Alejandro’s warning was hunting her, he specifically told her not to leave the mansion today. Why must it be today that her mother called? Why not other days?
“You need to come Jasira! Are you giving up already? Don’t you care about knowing the truth anymore?”
“I did! I freaking want to know the truth. Did you how bad it hurt?” She screamed before taking a sharp breath to calm herself.
“Then come.” Her mother said and dropped the call immediately.
Jasira slumped to the bed palming her face. What sort of life was this? “Ahh!” She screamed kicking her legs in the air.
She had begged her mother for the truth for months and now she was offering a chance, she should jump on it but it was damn dangerous. It scared her but she imagined a life where she got justice for the killer of her father and brother, a life where she was free and had no nightmares anymore.
She got down from the bed and exhaled determined, she would get out of this mansion today.
****
One hour after the call and Jasira was ready to leave the mansion__well, sneaked out of the mansion. She wore a black jean coupled with a black long shirt. She had been thinking about a lie she was going to tell the guards on duty but nothing came to her mind than sneaking out.
She grabbed her waist bag and strapped it to her waist after putting few cash and her phone there.
“Let this be peaceful, God.” She muttered a silent prayer before pulling her door closed.
Seeing no guards as she stepped into the compound put a smile on her face, that slowly faded away. She should only be happy when she gets to her destination safely.
She walked briskly down the long lawn, It all seemed the guards were on break or something which she did not care about at all.
“Hey you, stop right there.” She stayed glued to the ground with her eyes popped out, and fear ran down her spine before turning gently towards the sound.
The hefty guard pocketed his gun seeing it was her, he had thought she was an intruder. “Where are you going?” He demanded walking towards her.
“Umm… uh… Yes, I want to collect my package outside the gate.” She fibbed, pointing towards the gate.
“Hmm? Package?” He fixed her a glare. “Let me help you with it.”
She was taken aback at that but pulled up a straight face. “What did you mean by that?” She scoffed. “Why will you help me with it? If it’s something that needs help, I will send Ava to get it for me. Are you insinuating another thing? Oh.” She gasped with her mouth wide open and her eyes popped out.
“Are you saying that I’m running away? Or that I’m lying or what?” She jabbed her fingers at him. “I will never do that! I have no reasons for that and you are lying against me.” She sniffed back tears staring at the floor as she played with her hands.
“I’m… I’m sorry, please stop crying it’s not like that.” The guard’s words jumbled panicking. He tried to touch her shoulders but she busted into a loud cry.
“Fuck,” He muttered his hands through his hair frustrated.
Jasira glanced at his disoriented self and bit back her laugh, fuck. She was good at this. “My package is waiting.” She cried… harder
“Go. You can go.” The guards said quickly and she almost jumped high in the air but composed herself.
She glanced at him wiping her tears. “Thank you.” She blew him kisses before walking briskly away from him before he changed his mind.
‘Yes,’ she mentally screamed biting her lips happily.
“And I’m gone.” She threw her hands in aur, did a happy twist as she stepped out of the mansion.
