Blurry visions, banging head, and blank memories are what Jasira woke up to before the endless beeping of the machine dawned on her increasing her headache in process.
She stared blankly at the plain white ceiling ransacking her brain for any memories. She tried to stand up but was pulled back by the heavy pain in her shoulder joint, she winced painfully closing her eyes as she let the pain die down.
When the pain reduced, she was hit by another wave of headache and slowly her lost memories came back to her gently.
She remembered going to Alejandro’s room, daring him to shoot her, and– she gasped audibly, the bastard fired a damn bullet at her.
Pain and anger seethed into her mind, that useless heartless man really shot her. She glanced at her bandage arm, her eyes caught what was done to her dress, her beautiful dress was replaced with a loose white with a blue striped line hospital gown that was sleeveless. Her hair scattered all over her pillow and a drip was connected to her left hand.
Her eyes shot to the opening door across her, the door cracked open slowly and she waited patiently for the person behind the door to walk in.
She expected the sting but it hurt more after it happened. She thought it was Alejandro but it was just a nurse.
She shut her eyes tightly fighting back the tears. Why on earth does she have high hopes over the devil? He said he doesn’t have a heart but why does she feel like he had one?
“How are you?” She snapped her eyes open at the low comforting voice beside her. It was a beautiful black-haired nurse. Her face held up a genuine smile as she stared at her.
“Are you okay?” She asked again and Jasira blinked.
“I… I’m okay.” She answered lowly with a shivering voice. She gently adjusts her free hand on her stomach.
“That’s good to hear.”
“We’ve removed the bullet, luckily you don’t lose so much blood. You just to replace them by eating good foods.”
Jasira nodded putting on a smile for her even though it was fake. The nurse was nice so she should be nice also.
“Did you need anything?”
Jasira waited a minute before answering wondering if she needed anything.
“What if I want to urinate?” She asked confused. Thinking about it made her bladder suddenly feel heavy.
“Oh.” She smiled before helping Jasira adjust on the bed when she saw that she was struggling.
“You have a urine bag attached to your clitoris so there is no cause for alarm.”
Urine bag? Now, they got to be kidding her. That was very disgusting but instead, she smiled and asked calmly.
“How long was I out?”
“You were brought here yesterday evening and it’s another evening again.” She explained in the best way to her understanding.
Jasira nodded, that was twenty-four hours.
“Thank you.” She muttered and closed her eyes forcing herself back to sleep.
She didn’t want to think about Alejandro at all, she adjusted her free hand on her stomach after she closed the door.
She glanced around her surroundings. A blue plain room with a platform TV fixed to the wall. It was eerie silent and smelt of antiseptic just like a real hospital.
This was the second time she was here and it saddened her heart that Alejandro was the cause of both though it was her fault this time around.
First, she fainted because she was starved and the second time, she caused her nemesis by herself. She dared the devil to kill at least he didn’t kill her and she was going to taunt him about that also.
The door went opened once again and she quickly snapped her eyes closed pretending to sleep.
“Oh, my!” She knew that voice. The devil’s mother. It was tiny and soft just like her. She felt her warm hand planted on her cheek as she brushed it slowly.
She felt another movement by her left cheek and the scrappy texture told her who it belonged to, Amy.
A low sob came from Amy, with their presence around, she felt her heart at peace. A warm feeling overshadowed the cold feeling she felt before.
She felt their genuineness even with her closed eyes.
“What could have happened to her?” She heard Amy ask no one. Sadness filled her low voice. That confused Jasira, they knew she was here without knowing how she got here.
What on earth did Alejandro tell them, that wanted to push her to open her eyes and ask tons of questions?
But she denied the idea. Their presence was calm and peaceful but she felt suffocated, that might be selfish but she just wanted to be on her own. In her own world with her own thoughts.
After minutes, she heard their retreating steps and she was glad. She opened her eyes immediately the door was closed.
Her eyes flung after their dismissal, and her heart warmed when she sighted what they brought on the table beside her bed.
A bunch of pink roses and baked cookies. Where did they get the flowers when they were not allowed to go out? She grabbed the flower with her free hand and inhaled the sweet scent.
It smells good, it smells like a freshly harvested flower. She felt the soft texture with the pad of her thumb. She was still admiring the flower when the door went open. Her eyes shut reflexively on their own.
The smooth heavy footsteps on the tiled floor. Goosebumps peppered her skin when she inhaled the cigarette-like mixture with the spicy scent.
Every step he took towards the bed made her heart thud loudly in her chest and made her shiver. She tightened her hand against the bed sheet and tried to make her breathe heaven so she won’t give herself out.
Her throat dried up when the heavy footsteps stopped beside her. A clank of furniture against the tiled floor, that must have been Alejandro dragging a chair to sit beside her bed.
What on earth did he want from her?
