Tristan’s POV
When Cris came home the other day, she was furious and wouldn’t talk to me. I wouldn’t even talk to her either, because I wanted to be alone. Luckily, Eric was with her and kept her away from me. I found myself sitting at the dinner table, drinking my Scotch again. I didn’t want to face anything, not even work or the hacker situation. I just wanted to be by myself. Maggie and I went to do the tests yesterday, and now we have to wait for the results to see if I’m the father. If I’m not, then I lost Elona for good. But it doesn’t change my reality of possibly becoming a father again.
I took my glass of Scotch and gulped it down, placing it on the table with a thud. Banging on the front door traveled towards the dining area and it was relentless. Whoever that is, will be getting my fist against their jaw. I stood up from the chair and walked towards the front door.
I opened it, “What the hell is your problem?!” I growled. A furious-looking David glared at me, he was seething with boiling anger, like a lion who was staring at his prey.
“You son of a bitch,” he said through clenched teeth and charged towards me, grabbing me by my t-shirt collar, and pushing me until my back was against the wall. “I will fucking kill you right now for the things you have done to Elona. You broke her heart, and you lied to me,” he hissed into my face. “You piece of shit,” he pulled me away from the wall, just to push me back against it again.
“Hit me, do whatever you must. But I don’t want to live this way. My life is basically ruined, and I have nothing left besides my daughter,” tears welled up in my eyes. His expression changed when I mentioned Cris. He started letting go of me and took a step back. “So, if you want to beat me up, go ahead, and I think that it’s for the best that you keep Elona away from here.”
“I will do exactly that,” he hissed, “I highly doubt that she will even want to lay an eye on you. You broke her to pieces, and who is there to pick them all up? Me. Block her from your phone and don’t contact her. This is me being lenient on you, but so help me if you step over my boundaries and to fucking think you slept with my fucking daughter?” he raised his voice. He shook his head in disappointment. “You lied to me,” he pointed his finger at me. He was beyond furious.
I looked at the ground, “I didn’t take advantage of her. If that’s what you think, I would never do that. She has made me feel alive since Estelle died. My plan was to marry her one day and have a life with her, but Maggie happened, and you are the one who ruined it. You threw Maggie at me, and I’m surprised that you haven’t even slept with her,” I hissed back. “Elona was everything to me, but this is something that I just can’t think of if I am the father of Maggie’s baby,” I let out a sigh.
“Stay away from her. I don’t want your pathetic excuses. I don’t even want to see you.”
“Dad?” I looked towards the hallway where Cris stood with Spooky behind her. She was looking between the two of us.
“Not now, Cris,” I looked back at David, who was looking at her with sympathy, and then back at me again.
“How would you have reacted if the situation had been turned around?” He asked me.
I furrowed my brows, “What do you mean?” I asked.
“What would you have done if the roles were changed? If it was me and Cris in this situation?” he asked. I looked between Cris and him. Eric was calm as always, looking in on the situation. “Look at me and answer me!” he raised his voice, causing Cris to jump with fright, and I looked at him.
He was like a crazy madman, but that’s what happens when you’re fuming. “I would be angry and not want anything to do with you. I would beat you up if it had to come to that,” I said calmly.
“Well, that is exactly how I feel when it comes to you. You broke her and I will gladly break you, but I won’t. I have more respect for your daughter than you have for mine. So, stay away from her and don’t call her.” he said through clenched teeth before he turned around and walked away, muttering, ” Piece of shit,” on his way out, slamming the door behind him.
I raked my fingers through my hair and went back to the dining table. I took a seat, pouring Scotch into my glass. ” Dad, you don’t have to drink,” Cris pulled a chair out and sat down. Eric wasn’t with her. He probably gave us some space to talk.
“I will. You do not tell me what to do. You ruined my life by even thinking that it’s okay to be with Maggie if the baby is mine. I never liked her and I never will. I wanted Elona, and she was everything up to standard like your mother, but shit happens. We make mistakes and choices, we have to face our consequences one way or another,” I took a sip from my drink. I’m even disappointed in myself.
She looked down, ” I was thinking of the same thing that Uncle David had said. What if the roles had to be changed? Would Elona have reacted the same as I did to her? Would she just walk away from me or was she going to need time to absorb the situation? I haven’t seen her at school for the last few days, and I am worried about her. I said mean things to her.”
“Look, if you want to be friends with her and ask forgiveness, go ahead. But Elona and I are done, and we will not see each other again. You and David were the ones to smear Maggie on me and I lost everything because I gave in. So do whatever the hell you want. I don’t give a flying kite anymore,” I placed the glass down with a loud thud, nearly breaking the glass. I stood up and walked away to the bigger section of the house which was still not being used.
I was on the verge of spilling all of my tears at my own heartache for everything that had happened this far. I can imagine how broken she must be, but I had to do that for us. Even if pushing her lies in front of me was the one thing that pushed me into doing this for us as much as it was difficult. The lies mixed with heartache and being forced into a situation that I don’t even want to be in. But what’s done is done, there is nothing to fix… but to move on and go through this journey that I do not want to be on.
