Kael
When I didn’t see Seraphina at the Eagle Club for an entire day, I thought she was just busy with something. I, too, was occupied with handling the rumors about drugs and issuing a statement to clear my name, so I didn’t have time to look for her. The doping scandal quickly faded after my clarification. But when Seraphina didn’t show up the next day, I found it strange.
I knew how important this part-time job was to Seraphina, so she rarely took time off. Missing two consecutive days of work was impossible. I went to Rebecca for answers.
Rebecca looked at me with a helpless expression. “She was fired.”
“What the hell? You fired her?”
Rebecca shook her head and sighed. “I didn’t want to. She’s a great girl. But it seems it was your father’s order.”
It did not surprise me, to be honest. The Eagle Club was under my father’s control. If he wanted someone gone, they were gone. Furious, I immediately went to find him.
He was sitting in the living room with his subordinates, sipping tea and chatting. Everything seemed peaceful, and he looked so calm-nothing like the sternness he reserved for me. When I marched directly up to him, he frowned. “Kael, what do you want?”
“Why did you fire Seraphina?” I demanded.
“That human girl? She’s not suitable for you, Kael. You shouldn’t be around her.”
“But my wolf chose her.”
“That’s a mistake. There must be something wrong. You should aim for someone better.”
“Father, you’ve always dictated what I should do. But in this matter, I want to make my own choice.”
I glared at him, deeply disappointed. My entire life had been arranged by him, but now, in this matter, I wanted to decide for myself. This was about my future happiness, yet my father seemed unwilling to listen.
“Listen to me, Kael. You’re the future Alpha. You can’t let emotions cloud your judgment.”
“Dad,” I interrupted, raising my voice, “what I feel is my own business. I’ve always followed your lead, but not this time!”
I had never been this rebellious before. As I finished speaking, I saw my father’s face darken.
“Kael, don’t push me. That human girl isn’t right for you.”
“If you do anything to her ever again, I’ll sever our relationship,” I spat before turning and leaving.
I was going mad. I couldn’t believe I had just fought with my father over Seraphina and even threatened to cut ties. I had never been so bold before. But now, I was determined to protect her.
I began searching for Seraphina. When I finally found her, she seemed to misunderstand me. She was angry and refused to let me touch her. But I couldn’t let her go.
“Seraphina, please, let me explain.”
“I won’t listen, Kael. How many times do I have to say it? We’re not from the same world. Everything that’s gone wrong is because of you!”
She tried to leave, but I couldn’t let her. I heard she had taken a job at a bar. It was the busiest time of the night, yet she had left. Had someone hurt her there? I was furious, but my anger wasn’t directed at her.
“Seraphina, come with me. I’ll take you somewhere fun.”
I grabbed her hand and led her to my car. Thankfully, she cooperated. Soon, we arrived at a cliffside-my secret hideout, a place few knew about.
“Where is this?” Seraphina asked, her eyes wide with surprise.
“Look, the ocean’s right below the cliff. Isn’t it beautiful?”
I stood behind her and wrapped my arms around her. The cliff wasn’t too high, about five or six meters, with the vast sea stretching below. The waves crashed against the rocks, creating a soothing sound. A bright moon hung in the sky, casting a silver glow over the water.
Whenever I was upset, I came here to let my wolf out and vent my emotions. I could feel Seraphina’s turmoil, and I hoped she could find relief in this place.
Seraphina stood quietly in my embrace, gazing at the horizon. The sea breeze brushed her hair against my cheek, soft and ticklish.
“Seraphina, when I’m here, I usually just shout to let out my feelings. If you’re upset, you can try it too. It might help.”
“I can’t,” she said.
“Like this.” I stepped back, cupped my hands around my mouth, and let out a loud, “Ahhh!”
My voice echoed across the sea before fading away. Seraphina looked at me and smiled-the first smile I’d seen from her that night.
She followed my lead, shouting into the ocean. I watched as she relaxed, and my heart eased with hers. This was how Seraphina should be.
After we left the cliffside, Seraphina seemed calmer, but she still wouldn’t let me touch her.
“Kael, I think we really can’t continue. Don’t you agree?” she said calmly, her words cutting deep.
“No, Seraphina. I love you. I won’t let you go,” I replied firmly.
“But your love exhausts me, Kael. We’re not from the same world.” Her eyes filled with sorrow again.
My heart ached as if it had been stabbed, and my breathing slowed.
“No, Seraphina. Have you ever thought that we might be from the same world? You might not even be human.” I stood in front of her, speaking seriously.
Though I was still investigating Seraphina’s origins, I had discovered she was adopted. She didn’t look like her parents at all. The area where she grew up was near a forest once inhabited by a werewolf tribe that had later been absorbed.
Seraphina might very well be a descendant of werewolves.
