Lorin’s POV
“Mother, do you think sending Sophie to follow Riff was a good idea?” Glen asked in a low tone.
I was glad to see him in control but also a little sad that he was still uncomfortable around me.
“She is his mate, so she will make sure he feels calmer. If my guess is right, they won’t be coming back today,” I answered simply.
It was obvious that Riff wouldn’t come back in a day. He needed all the time he could get to think through everything before deciding to forgive or let go and heal.
“Jace wanted to come here, but Dominic stopped him,” Glen said as I smiled at him.
“He did well,” I answered and then looked at Clyde, who sat on a sofa with his legs crossed, looking at me with a smile.
When we kissed a few hours ago, I had to pull back from the kiss despite not wanting to because it wasn’t the right time or place.
I was happy to have him welcome me when I took over, and now that I realized who was behind his change of heart, I really wanted us to make up and be together. But first, I had to make sure Riff and both my pups were on good terms again.
“Clyde,” I called.
“Yes, my Queen,” he answered simply as everyone looked at me.
It was a playful nickname he called me back in the day when he met me for the first time.
Back then, Berta was nervous to have us meet, but it turned out well. I loved his wolf with my life and him equally. I was so sure he loved me and Berta the same.
“What did the witch say?” I asked seriously.
“Edith will be here today. She understands the situation, and she has agreed to come,” he answered calmly.
“Good,” I replied with a smile and then looked at Sky.
He was sitting opposite Clyde, with Harley next to him in silence.
I understood how horrible he felt because Marshall was like a father to him, and he trusted him wholeheartedly. We all did.
“Sky, how about you step out and get some fresh air?” I asked softly.
He faked a smile and then shook his head.
“It’s fine, Mother; I don’t need that,” he answered and then stood up with a frown.
“She’s here,” he said seriously.
“Who?” I asked.
“Edith,” he answered and then walked out of the room.
I looked at Harley, then nodded and followed him outside of the pack house.
Edith stood close to the entrance with her mate.
“Welcome, Edith,” Sky greeted.
“Thank you, Alpha Sky. I hope you don’t mind that I came with Harvey,” she answered.
“It’s fine,” he replied.
When she looked at me, I smiled warmly at her.
“Did you travel by portal?” I asked.
“Yes, Luna,” she answered in a respectful tone.
“So, about the call,” I began to explain when she raised her hand and stopped me.
“My Alpha has already explained everything to me. I apologize for not telling you the truth sooner and for your loss as well. I believe that despite Beta Marshall being corrupted by selfish desires, he was once a good Beta who worked hard for his pack,” she said as I sadly nodded.
“True, well then, please do come in,” I said, and then turned and slowly walked into the pack house, glancing at the sides from time to time to make sure they were right behind me, following.
Immediately after they entered the living room, they greeted Clyde, Harley, and Glen, then sat down.
“So I’ll get straight to it,” Edith said as she stood up.
“The spell made back then has weakened, so it won’t be hard to get rid of. It will actually be very simple,” she said, then looked at Clyde.
“Alpha, I will need you to stand up and hold the Luna’s hands,” she said.
Clyde stood up and walked to where I was standing, grabbing both of my hands with a smile.
She moved closer and pressed both of her hands on each of ours, then closed her eyes.
I frowned slightly when a few minutes went by in silence.
“Just relax and keep gazing at your handsome mate,” Clyde said through our mind-link.
I smiled as I looked into his eyes.
Even after years, his face was still truly handsome, and he knew I had a weak spot for it.
“Well, you haven’t aged a day,” I whispered back through our mind-link.
“You too, Lorin; you are still as beautiful as ever,” he said as my heart began to beat rapidly, and the tingles I was already feeling felt even more magical.
All I could see was him, and the peace I felt just staring into his eyes was warming my heart.
“It’s done,” Edith said, then dropped her hands.
“Just like that?” Glen asked loudly.
“Well, yes,” she answered.
“Did you expect some dramatic show?” she asked playfully.
“Well, kind of. You know, like some glowing light or wind dramatically blowing in this room. Better still, a flicker of lights and a whisper in the room,” he answered, making us all laugh.
“Alpha, you went from describing a beautiful, enchanting scene to a horror movie scene,” she said, making us laugh even more.
Although it wasn’t the situation I thought of, I had always dreamed of a day when I would laugh happily with my mate and pups together.
“I came here because Alpha Jace was worried. Although you told him not to come because everything was okay, he still was concerned and thought Alpha Dominic said that not to get him worked up. He thought he was lying and keeping him away to protect him; that’s why he sent me to come here, and I couldn’t say no because I love being with my mate,” Harvey said.
“Now that I have seen how everything is okay with my own eyes, I will tell him not to worry,” he said.
“Please do,” I answered.
“Okay then, we will be returning to our pack,” Edith announced.
“So soon?” Harley asked, finally breaking her silence after hours of not saying a word.
“Of course we have to return. Although we will visit soon. You should visit us when you have time. All of you,” she answered.
“Oh, and you two can stop holding hands now,” she said as I quickly pulled back my hands, chuckling nervously.
“Why don’t I feel any different?” I asked seriously.
“The spell was directed towards Alpha Clyde, not you, Luna. But I needed you for the spell to work flawlessly because you are his mate and linked to the origin of the spell made back then,” she said, making Clyde chuckle.
“So… Clyde?” I asked.
“Do you feel any different?” I asked seriously.
“Yes,” he answered with a sad expression on his face and then walked to where Glen was, pulling him into a tight hug.
“Everything feels different,” he said in a cracked tone, then sniffed.
I looked at Edith and then mouthed the words.
“Thank you,”
