He lied! Devine lied to himself. Whatever made him think that he could not be with Nuella just needed him to stay a day without her to realize how much of a coward he was for letting her go.
His heart had not been at peace knowing that he was not in a good space with her. He had shifted all his energy to different things. Like visiting his protection agency often and burying himself in work just to distract himself but the goddamn file from her school was all It took for the thoughts of her that he struggled so hard to bury to run back Into his head.
He had gone to his casino to check a few renovation plans that Enzo had been carrying out for him before he returned to Sicily and the sight of a worker was all it took for the torturing image of Nuella to run back into his head.
He had picked his phone up to call her on three different occasions but he had dropped it back for fear that she might resent him.
His back rested on the black couch in the private side of his casino and he paid little or no attention to the lady whose body was swaying around the pole.
His hand tightened into a fist as he struggled to not grab his phone and place a call through to her but the compulsive part of him won and he only found himself dialing her number. He called on three different occasions and it only ran till the end of the call. No answer.
He waited for two minutes more to see if she would return the call but he was growing more impatient, so he placed another call through but just like the first time it went unanswered.
A muscle in his jaws tightened and he gripped tightly onto the phone strangling it hard till the screen broke into pieces, crushing into his hand.
As anger and rage burned through him, he suddenly only found himself at the exit door of his casino, where Enzo was standing.
Devine stopped abruptly on his track, but his face didn’t betray an emotion.
“Stepping out?” Enzo inquired walking past Devine into the private casino room, but Devine didn’t give a reply. He just returned his hands to his pocket and stared back at the back side of Enzo who was gesturing toward the black couch that Devine vacated.
“I was going to step out.” He swallowed in. Finally giving a reply.
“Well, cancel whatever plans.”
“Why would I do that?”Devine asked gesturing toward Enzo.
Enzo reached for the glass cup that was on the table and poured himself a wine. He raised the cup to Devine asking if Devine was taking the drink before he made to leave and Devine nodded.
Enzo nodded and took the glass of cup to his mouth taking a sip from the wine. He made a face as the bitter content washed down his throat.
“What the hell.” Enzo snapped the moment he was done drinking it.
“Why the hell is this so bitter?”
Devine shrugged, slumping onto the couch next to Enzo.
“I like it bitter.”
“We never like it bitter else we are going through some bitter shit.”
“We are always going through bitter shit,” Devine replied almost immediately and Enzo stared at Devine for not longer than two seconds before raising a hand for the waiter he earlier dismissed.
“Did you lose a deal?” Enzo inquired redirecting his gaze back to Devine.
A muscle in Devine’s jaws pinched. He didn’t lose a deal I lost your freaking daughter to fear that I am too much of a monster who can’t handle her. Bastard! He cursed inwardly hoping he could spill it out.
“I never lose business deals.” He replied boostfully and Enzo nodded in approval. At the age of 17, Devine had gotten 6 different contracts and he has been named the Alpha for always pulling through with any deal that he had set his mind to.
“If you didn’t lose a deal then get a girl and pounce on her like you always do.”
Devine shot Enzo a glare.
The only person I wasn’t to pounce on is your youngest daughter, man.
If only he could say that to his friend. He looked away, snapping the thoughts out of his head.
“Since you arrived you haven’t ordered for a lady to pounce on. Oh… you did. The day you came back.”
“Are you keeping track of me?”
Enzo rolled his eyes and poured himself the wine that the waiter brought for him.
“I only notice because you ask me to bring you any girls when I hire one for myself.”
Devine exhaled taking a sip from his strong liquor.
“Back to why you said today would be the last day I would see you.”
Enzo’s eyes narrowed.
“Did thinking get into you this much? My freaking wedding is tomorrow and we would be leaving for our honeymoon tomorrow.”
Devine stared at the sides of Enzo’s face not longer than three seconds before averting it back to the lady who was dancing on the pole.
“Why so soon?” Questions were only because he cared. Deep down he liked that Enzo would travel and Nuella would have the time to attend her physical lecture without the fear of being caught. He had employed three extra men to keep eyes on her. He was a coward. Yes. He knew, but he would never leave her to herself. They sent him daily track of her life, and even far-end pictures of her that he’d stare at till he was freakking horny then wank off to the image of her spread-out legs in the library room and the sound of her voice that his head provided him with.
Enzo’s eyes were locked on the lady whose body rolled around the pole, entertaining his greedy eyes. He sipped from his wine and then returned his attention to his friend.
“You know the things about women? She desperately wants to be with me away from this place. So I had our visa and flight arranged. We would be leaving shortly after the wedding dinner.”
“So why are you here? Shouldn’t you be around your wife, smooching and doing the kinky things that lovers do?”
The line on Enzo’s forehead knitted and a look of disgust appeared on his face.
“Having fun is one thing I am not sure I will let go of. In between it’s going to be my last day being a single widower, so I am here to have all the fun in the world.”
Enzo closer to Devine ears and whispered.
“I am here to fuck all the pussy in the world so bring them out for me… my man.” He pulled away and wiggled his brows at Devine while Devine just suppressed the words with a sip.
He stared at Enzo for a second, contemplating between which disgusted him. Enzo’s words or expression.
“They would not be needing me for anything. Ivano is there Samantha is out with her man.”
A moment followed before Enzo added.
“Nuella doesn’t have a place to go, so she would be of help.”
The utterance of her name pinched Devine’s muscles but what pinched it harder was the delay that Enzo made before talking about Nuella.
Did he find out about her school? That would be a question for his men. Right now he would settle into the image of her that he has In his head till tomorrow when he would see her, all glammed up like the goddess that she is.
All of a sudden tomorrow suddenly seemed like an eternity to him. In-between whatever would happen tomorrow would not prevent him from owning her.
He would make sure they settle things amicably
Tomorrow would be it, the day he would own her.
