Cassandra was disappointed.
She turns to Zayn who was sitting quietly beside her. Louis and Alex were tending to her after the nurse delivered a tray of food to her.
She wanted to take the opinion of her man. He was wise enough to give her a headstart towards her decision.
To keep Ravine alive or not.
If not, Ravine would be alive in the future and not stay in her incarnation. Cassandra was having a hard time deciding and trying to figure things out by herself.
At around 10 in the night, Louis closes the curtains as he kisses Cassandra on her forehead.
“Goodnight, sweetheart.” He says to the girl, patting her hair softly.
“Goodnight, Louis.”
“If you want to be helped, call Zayn on the phone or call me. Alright? Don’t raise your voice yet. It could rupture your lungs. And no deep breathing as well. Nothing to strain your lungs or muscles. Aight?”
“Aye aye sir.” Louis chuckles and shakes his head as Cassandra was only allowed to smile.
She looks down at her plastered waist and back at Louis who waves at her before closing the sliding door.
When the two were alone, Zayn looks up at her as she asks him.
He shouldn’t know about the death of Ravine. Because he isn’t informed about it.
It was as if the God of Death was testing her courage.
“Zayn?” The man finally quits his social media and comes to her.
“Yes, love?” He caresses her smooth face.
“What do you think about saving someone who mistreated you?” Zayn looks at her face. She was about to cry, her lip was wobbling.
“Hey, are you-” suddenly, she lifts her hand up to stop him from saying anything more.
“J-just answer me. You don’t have to put your mind into anything.” She says to Zayn. The girl was biting down on her lip. Zayn couldn’t understand her resolve with the question. It seemed personal.
It seemed unfair.
“Y-yes.” Says Zayn.
“Why?” Her shaky voice asks again.
“Because death is something which isn’t in our hands. In these two years that I was with my beautiful family, I realised how their life was incomplete because of death. They died too early. Even grandpa Framton. It shouldn’t have happened, but we both know who did it.” Cassandra nods her head softly.
“I want to save someone, Zayn.” The girl says.
“Who?”
“Someone who was too close to me.”
“From what?” His question makes her smile. She hoped, that he would never figure it out himself until she tells him. And if she did tell him… they go back to the future with the biggest loss and sacrifice ever made for nothing.
“You don’t need to know.”
She flings a needle into his neck. Tears of confusion and pain cascade down his cheeks. He looks at her face which screamed a thousand apologies for her actions.
“W-what did you… do…” he weakly asks her. He could feel the power of the drug all over his body, coursing through his blood.
He felt sleepy, way too sleepy to stay up and watch at the woman in front of him.
The last thing he hears before collapsing on the floor is her begging him for forgiveness.
“Argh!” Hissing in pain when the tubes that flowed into her body were plucked out, Cassandra weakly stands up as she watches the male trying to reach out to her.
“Go to sleep, Zayn. Please.” She says to the body which was falling unconscious. She wipes her face off of any tears or snot.
She walks out of the hospital room, in search of someone who can take her to the place she desires to be at.
“Alex!” She lifts her hand up at the male who was walking in the corridor with a few edibles in hand. Alex squints his eyes to figure out the female calling for him in the dark corridor. When he realises, he sprints towards her as she limped towards Alex.
“Fucking idiot! Stay in the room! Why are you-” Cassandra cuts him off, holding his arms as she sternly pleads.
“Take me to Ravine’s house. Now. I wanna see her.” His eyes widen with confusion.
“But why-?”
“S-she came to see me, right? I want to talk to her!”
“Yeah, but I can call her here too-”
“Visiting hours are over, Alex. Change my clothes and get me out of here. I want to see her!!” She yells at Alex who looks above her desperate to meet the girl.
“O-okay. I’ll get your clothes. Stay here.” Assisting her to sit down on the chair, he walks into the room to see Zayn sleeping on the couch.
He doesn’t have the slightest idea that Zayn was injected with a tranquilizer. And placed back on the couch as well.
Cassandra holds her breath as she felt excruciating pain in her chest. The side of her unsealed and broken rib was brushing over her intercostal muscles, making her feel as though someone was piercing a thousand knives into her right upper quadrant.
Alex comes back with the clothes as he slides the door to closure behind him. Zayn was sleeping soundly, put in that state forcefully.
She hoped the tranquilizer worked until the time of 23:45 on the night of Christmas. She believed him sleeping until midnight would be the biggest gift she will receive for herself for Christmas.
For he wouldn’t guess and know who she was going to save.
1 hour, 27 minutes left.
“Drive, drive please…”
“Yeah, I am. Ugh!” The Ferrari was frozen up by the biting amount of cold outside at the parking lot. Alex clicks his tongue as he tried to warm up the engine, but the weather was beating it against him.
“Let me check the engine.”
“Yeah. Make it quick, Alex.” With furrowed eyebrows, Cassandra said to the guy who was trying his best.
Ravine left her phone somewhere and was heading towards a destination.
Cassandra’s leg wouldn’t stop shaking with anxiety. She tries to call Ravine in the meantime.
No one was lifting the call.
