“Um-”
Callie barely had time to catch her breath as his scorching lips pressed against hers. His large hand gripped her slender waist, rendering her immobile.
She struggled desperately but couldn’t match his strength.
Exhausted from struggling, she gave up and let him do as he pleased, feeling numb.
“What would people think if they knew that the future son-in-law of the Ellison family is kissing his ex-wife right now?”
Her tone was flat.
The man in front of her paused slightly. He moved his lips to her cheek, kissing it repeatedly.
“Do you want people to know?”
Callie glared at him with wet eyes. She was wearing a tight dress, which restricted her movements; otherwise, she would have kicked him.
“You look beautiful in a cheongsam,” Nelson said suddenly, cupping her face.
As they tangled, two buttons of her cheongsam came undone, and his white shirt was wrinkled.
Callie remained still. “What’s the point, Nelson? After you marry Charlotte, will you still entangle with me like this?”
Nelson slowly raised his eyes. For no reason, he felt that every part of her was perfect, making any other woman inferior to her.
“I told you, every time you appear with Jamir, I’ll take you.”
He was simply perverse, she thought.
Callie took a deep breath, smelling the sandalwood scent on him. It was supposed to be calming, but now it made her mind foggy.
“When you get married,” she said, looking at the string of prayer beads on his wrist, “throw away those beads. My things are not for someone like you.”
Nelson glanced at them but didn’t pay much attention. He lowered his head and continued kissing her, filling the room with ambiguity.
Callie’s vision blurred.
He seemed to ask something, but she didn’t hear clearly. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her neck as he bit down. Callie frowned and came back to her senses. “You bastard!”
“I asked you if you’ve slept with Jamir.”
He gripped her neck, his eyes narrowing with possessiveness.
Callie realized he must have seen the marks on Jamir’s neck that hadn’t faded.
She suddenly smiled. “Nelson, if one day I destroy what you cherish most, will you kill me?”
Nelson’s face darkened, and he increased his grip. “If you dare sleep with him, I’ll kill you.”
Callie hadn’t realized that this was actually an answer. At this moment, she felt more disheartened than anything else.
“You better not have,” he said in a low voice.
The knocking on the door grew louder. “Mr. Oconnor, Mr. Ellison is urging you.”
Nelson didn’t respond, silently staring at Callie.
She stubbornly turned her head away.
Receiving no response from inside, the knocking continued twice more. “Mr. Oconnor… are you there?”
Nelson released his grip, and Callie took a deep breath of fresh air.
She watched his tall figure walk away and suddenly hugged him from behind, her voice soft.
“Nelson, today is Maevelyn’s birthday. You never celebrated my birthday.”
Her sudden vulnerability made Nelson’s heart ache. He frowned. “… There will be in the future.”
“It’s not the same.”
“I will celebrate it for you,” he said flatly. No one knew the determination behind his words.
The knocking outside continued incessantly. Callie turned and unlocked the door, speaking softly, “I don’t want it anymore.”
The staff outside were stunned to see a woman coming out from inside.
Callie looked displeased. “Are you in such a hurry?”
Callie strode away, fastening the buttons of her cheongsam as she went. At the corner, she ran into Charlotte, who seemed to have been waiting for a long time.
Two figures in white collided; it was hard to tell who had the upper hand.
