Her flesh!?
It seemed now that Hunter, a Grand-level Hermit, had discovered that consuming her flesh could enhance his abilities.
Kayden sneered coldly and said, “I’m not as despicable as you. If you won’t speak, then prepare to die, beast.”
As he spoke, Kayden began gathering energy in his hands, intending to unleash it and annihilate Hunter in an instant.
But before the energy could be released, a sudden voice stopped him. “Kayden, you’re here!”
The voice belonged to none other than Felicity.
Hearing her voice, Kayden withdrew his attack and turned to look at her.
Felicity’s eyes sparkled as they focused on Kayden. She walked toward him and said, “I was wondering where you went. What are you doing here?”
Just as she finished asking, she noticed Hunter standing nearby. Surprised, she exclaimed, “Cousin, you’re back?”
“Yes, I’m back.” Hunter’s expression softened, as if nothing had happened, and he replied calmly.
At that moment, Felicity noticed the broken blade in Kayden’s hand. Her brows furrowed as she asked, “Kayden, why are you holding a knife?”
As she spoke, her gaze shifted between Kayden and Hunter, her eyes filled with confusion and uncertainty.
“It’s nothing. Just that some people have ill intentions. Be careful for the time being,” Kayden said.
Then, as if something occurred to him, he added, “How about I sleep with you tonight?”
“What!?” Felicity’s delicate face flushed instantly. She wondered if she had misheard him.
“For your safety, I’ll sleep with you tonight,” Kayden repeated bluntly.
Felicity’s cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red. She hadn’t expected Kayden to say something so direct.
Before she could respond, Hunter interjected hastily, “No way!”
“What’s your problem? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. Right now, it seems like you’re the one with bad intentions toward Felicity,” Kayden said calmly as he turned to look at Hunter.
Before the argument escalated, the noise attracted Felicity’s mother, who stepped out of the house.
“What’s going on, Felicity?” she asked, confused.
Felicity froze, too embarrassed to answer.
Hunter quickly spoke up. “Aunt Mona, this guy has improper intentions toward Felicity! He just said he wants to sleep with her! I heard it with my own ears-it’s outrageous!”
Felicity’s mother was momentarily speechless. This kind of situation involving her daughter left her unsure whether to feel concerned or relieved.
She had once worried that Felicity wouldn’t find anyone to marry, but now, with two men vying for her attention, that worry had vanished.
“If you say another word, I’ll kill you. Do you believe me?” Kayden suddenly said darkly, glaring at Hunter.
The threat startled Felicity’s mother, who quickly said, “Kayden, I know our Hunter has a sharp tongue, and I’m sorry about that. But you saying you’ll sleep with Felicity… isn’t that a little inappropriate?”
“Ma’am, I’m doing it to protect Felicity. Earlier today, someone was killed at the hotel. That person was targeting Felicity. If I don’t stay close to her, they might get another chance,” Kayden explained, his eyes fixed on Hunter.
If not for the trust Hunter had already gained from Felicity and her mother, Kayden wouldn’t have bothered arguing. He would have eliminated him on the spot.
Hunter chuckled coldly. “You speak as if you know who the murderer is. That was done by a zombie. Or… are you the zombie in disguise?”
Hunter’s words were an indirect accusation, pushing himself closer to death.
“Besides, if Felicity needs protection, it’s my job as her cousin to protect her! Since when is it your place to step in? Tonight, I’ll stay with Felicity. Who knows what your intentions are?”
The two men stood toe-to-toe, their rivalry over Felicity turning into an open battle.
Felicity, for the first time, experienced the feeling of being fought over. Her emotions were a chaotic mix, leaving her utterly conflicted.
Kayden didn’t waste any more words. He walked up to Felicity, grabbed her hand, and said, “Let’s go, Felicity.”
Without waiting for her permission, he pulled her hand and started leading her upstairs.
As Kayden held her hand, Felicity’s heart raced uncontrollably.
She looked at Kayden’s broad, commanding back and felt her throat tighten.
He was so domineering-and it was exactly this domineering aura that she liked about him.
Hunter and Felicity’s mother watched the two leave, both at a loss for words.
“Aunt Mona, how could you not stop this? Isn’t this ridiculous? If word gets out, the neighbors will gossip!” Hunter exclaimed, his eyes wide with frustration.
Felicity’s mother sighed helplessly. “What can I do, Hunter? Can’t you see that Felicity doesn’t like you? You’ve always been a good boy, but it seems Felicity has found someone quite extraordinary this time. Don’t worry, Hunter. Aunt Mona will find someone better for you-someone more suited to you.”
Hunter was stunned by her words. It felt as though Kayden had won over both mother and daughter.
“Aunt Mona, even if Felicity likes him, they can’t live together before marriage! Isn’t that too absurd? I can’t accept this!”
In the countryside, traditional values remained strong. Felicity’s mother, being a conservative woman, hesitated but eventually said, “Hunter, you don’t understand how important Kayden is to our family. Without him, we wouldn’t have had the money for the surgery or the chance to heal. Do you know how the hospital treated us? They weren’t even willing to help us, even when we had money.
“And he gave Felicity a second chance at life! That’s not something easy to come by. Honestly, if he wants to sleep with Felicity, or even if he wants more, we would gladly give it to him. In life, we must repay our debts. Kayden has been a savior to our family. Do you understand?”
Hunter looked at Felicity’s mother, who spoke with heartfelt sincerity, and sighed deeply. Frustrated and helpless, he turned and walked upstairs.
Night.
Kayden entered Felicity’s room. It was a simple space-just an ordinary wooden wardrobe. Despite its simplicity, the room was neat and orderly.
Inside the wardrobe hung a few clothes Kayden had bought for Felicity, their price tags still attached. It seemed she hadn’t had the heart to wear them yet.
As Kayden stood in the room, Felicity’s heart raced faster. She felt nervous and overwhelmed.
She didn’t understand why Kayden had insisted on staying with her, but it seemed it had something to do with her cousin.
Perhaps Kayden was jealous.
Seeing him like this, Felicity couldn’t help but find his jealousy adorable.
