The money, they dared not use it carelessly. They thought that one day, when they met Kayden, they would return it to him.
There was $280, 000 in the account. They had withdrawn $20, 000, leaving $260, 000.
To them, the money wasn’t theirs. It belonged to Kayden. Returning it to him would be restoring it to its rightful owner.
Kayden slid the bank card back in front of Felicity’s mother and smiled. “This money is yours. How could I take it from you? You and Felicity need it more to sustain your lives.”
Kayden wasn’t lacking in money. To him, this amount was insignificant-a mere drop in the ocean. But to Felicity and her mother, $260, 000 was a considerable sum.
Felicity shook her head and said, “No, Kayden. We do need money, but not this money. You saved my mother and healed my face. I know this amount doesn’t begin to repay you, but you must take it. If you don’t, I won’t know how to face you in the future.”
Kayden sighed and shook his head. “If you want to face me properly and hope that I’ll stay here a few more days, then keep the money.”
“Of course, if you don’t want me to stay, I can take the money-but I’ll leave right now.”
Hearing this, the mother and daughter exchanged a glance, unsure of what Kayden meant.
In the end, Felicity quietly accepted the bank card. She hoped Kayden would stay a few more days. She didn’t want him to leave so soon. She hadn’t had the chance to get to know him better, to understand what kind of man he was.
Seeing this, Kayden chuckled and said, “That’s better. This money was always yours. You should keep it.”
Felicity nodded softly, lowering her head without saying a word.
At that moment, a tall man walked in from outside. As he entered, he called out, “Felicity. Aunt Mona.”
Both women stood up. Only then did they see the man as he stepped into the light. He was a strong, muscular figure with dark skin. His hair was cropped close, and his thick eyebrows gave him a steady, reliable appearance.
“You are… Hunter?” Felicity’s mother asked in surprise.
The man nodded. “Yes, it’s me, Hunter, Aunt Mona!”
“Hunter!” Felicity’s mother exclaimed, walking up to him, grasping his hands, and gently touching his face, like a caring mother caressing her child.
Hunter was the son of Felicity’s mother’s younger brother, making them close relatives.
“Aunt Mona, I heard you were sick, so I rushed back from out of town to see you. When I went to Vernon Hospital, they said you had already been discharged. So, I came straight here. Are you alright now, Aunt Mona?”
Felicity’s mother shook her head and sighed. “I’m fine now! I’m fine! You’ve worked hard, child. Come and eat, come and eat.”
“Aunt Mona, as long as you’re okay, that’s all that matters. Right now, you and Felicity are the only family I have left. This time, I’ve come back for good. I’m staying to take care of you and protect you both,” Hunter said earnestly.
Years ago, a strange tragedy struck Hunter’s family. All of his relatives, except for Felicity and her mother, had died one after another. Not a single one remained.
Fearing for his life, Hunter had left and said he was going to the city to escape the misfortune.
Afterward, he disappeared entirely. Nearly ten years passed without any news of him. Everyone thought he was dead. Who would have thought he would return now?
“Hunter!” Felicity suddenly called out.
Hunter turned his gaze to Felicity. When he looked at her, he was stunned.
For a full thirty seconds, he stood frozen, then asked in shock, “You… You’re Felicity?”
Felicity nodded. “Yes, Hunter, it’s me.”
“What happened to you? How did you change like this?” Hunter stared at her in astonishment. Her birthmark was gone, completely healed, which was unexpected for him.
“Oh my god, Felicity, you’re really Felicity! How did your face heal?”
Felicity looked toward Kayden and said, “He’s the one who helped me.”
Hunter followed her gaze to Kayden. Their eyes met, locking for several seconds before Hunter withdrew his gaze and said calmly, “Thank you, my friend. Thank you for removing the birthmark from my cousin’s face and healing the scars in her heart.”
Before he could finish, Felicity added, “It’s not just that. Back in Vernon, my mom’s cancer was also cured by him. He’s been so kind to our family.”
Felicity’s mother chimed in, “Yes, Hunter. My illness was cured without surgery. It’s all thanks to Kayden.”
Hunter let out an “Oh” and his eyes lit up slightly as he reexamined Kayden.
He stepped forward, extending his hand toward Kayden. “Hello. Thank you for helping my cousin and my Aunt Mona! I’m Hunter Mallory. Felicity’s mother is my aunt, and she’s the only family I have left in this world.”
Kayden raised his hand to meet Hunter’s grip and replied coolly, “Hello.”
As their hands clasped, Kayden felt as though he were holding a bear’s paw. Hunter’s hand was large and strong, and he intentionally applied pressure during the handshake.
Kayden used his energy to counteract Hunter’s strength. Instinct told him that this man was no ordinary person.
Hunter, sensing something unusual, had a sudden shift in his expression. He let go of Kayden’s hand and said, “Brother, you’ve done so much for my family. You’re our benefactor. Now, tell me what you need. As long as it’s something I can do, I’ll go to any lengths to make it happen.”
Hunter’s words conveyed that he considered Felicity and her mother’s affairs his own.
Kayden chuckled coldly and replied, “I helped Felicity, not you. What does this have to do with you?”
His words were like a cold arrow, instantly chilling the atmosphere in the room. Everyone’s expressions darkened.
“Besides, whatever I need to do, you wouldn’t be able to help. You’re not even qualified.”
There was a hint of hostility in Kayden’s tone. Not only did Hunter pick up on it, but even Felicity and her mother noticed it.
Felicity quickly stepped forward and said, “Kayden, this is my cousin. He’s always been good to me. When I was younger, many people looked down on me and bullied me at school. He was the one who stood up for me. He’s different from everyone else.”
Then, she turned to Hunter and said, “Cousin, Kayden has been so good to me! He’s just worried you might be someone who would hurt me.”
