A man knelt on the ground, his face pale and anxious. “Madam, Mara Wainwright and Billy have been rescued.”
“What?!” Joanne’s face darkened with fury. “That wretched woman is unbelievably lucky. Even now, she managed to escape!”
Previously, Joanne had driven Mara Wainwright out of the Wainwright family, but her anger hadn’t subsided. She had secretly ordered the man with sharp eyes to forcibly marry Mara or, if necessary, kill her outright. Yet, to her utter shock, the sharp-eyed man had been killed, and Mara had been rescued.
“Madam, bad news!”
At that moment, the Wainwright family’s butler rushed into the room, his voice trembling.
Joanne glanced at him coldly. “What now?”
The butler hesitated before replying, “Madam, Mara Wainwright is outside with a stranger. They’re demanding to see you.”
Joanne sneered. “I never expected Mara to come crawling back here to die. Let them in!”
“Yes, Madam.”
The butler quickly retreated. Moments later, Chris and Mara Wainwright entered the room together.
Chris raised his head, his sharp gaze sweeping over Joanne. She appeared to be in her fifties, though she was well-preserved, her features still retaining a certain charm.
The moment Joanne saw Mara, her expression twisted into rage. “You shameless wretch! How dare you come back here!”
At the sight of Joanne, Mara instinctively hid behind Chris, trembling.
Clang!
Suddenly, a group of Wainwright family guards surrounded Chris and his companions.
Chris glanced at the guards, a faint smirk curling his lips. These so-called guards were nothing but amateurs to him. The strongest among them barely reached the Pinnacle late stage, posing no real threat.
He let out a cold laugh. “You must be Mrs. Wainwright. Good. I’m here today to seek justice for Mara.”
Joanne’s face turned an ugly shade of red. Her voice was laced with venom as she snapped, “Who are you to meddle in the Wainwright family’s affairs? Do you have a death wish? Guards! Seize them and show them the consequences of crossing the Wainwright family!”
At her command, dozens of guards charged at Chris.
Chris snorted disdainfully, drawing his Dragon Slayer sword without hesitation.
Boom!
The clash began. One after another, the guards were sent flying by Chris’s strikes.
“Is this the best the Wainwright family can do?” Chris said mockingly, his voice dripping with contempt.
Joanne’s face grew even darker. Her expression twisted in anger. “More guards! Get me more guards!”
The sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the estate as over a hundred guards poured into the room.
At the same time, a middle-aged man descended from above, landing with a heavy thud. His imposing presence immediately filled the room. He was a Pinnacle Peak expert, second only to the Solstice-level elders of the Wainwright family.
The middle-aged man approached Joanne, bowing respectfully. “Madam, what are your orders?”
Joanne pointed at Chris and his group. “These people dared to cause trouble in the Wainwright family. Kill them all!”
“Yes, Madam.”
The guard captain nodded and turned to face Chris. His voice was as cold as ice. “You heard the madam. None of you will leave here alive.”
Chris chuckled, unfazed by the threat. If this had been earlier in his journey, a Pinnacle Peak opponent might have been a challenge. But now, his strength had grown immensely. Not only could he hold his own against such an opponent, but with his trump card, Stripes, he could even contend with Solstice-level experts.
Chris turned to Billy. “Billy, take care of Mara.”
Billy nodded firmly. “Don’t worry. I’ll protect her.”
Without further delay, Chris gripped his Dragon Slayer and charged into the fray.
The battle was fierce. The Wainwright family guards, though numerous, couldn’t match Chris’s speed and power. One after another, they fell, their groans of pain filling the air.
Joanne’s face twisted with fury as she screamed, “Kill him! Kill him now!”
Her gaze shifted to Mara, who was standing behind Billy. A vicious glint appeared in Joanne’s eyes as she pointed a trembling finger. “Kill that wretched woman!”
At her command, several guards broke away from the fight and lunged toward Mara.
“I’ll protect you, Miss!” Billy shouted, stepping forward to block the attackers.
But Billy was no match for the Wainwright guards. He struggled desperately, but the situation quickly became dire.
Seeing this, Chris shouted, “Stripes! Go help them!”
A shadow streaked across the room like a bolt of lightning.
“Ah!”
“Ah!”
“Ah!”
In the blink of an eye, the guards attacking Mara were slain by Stripes, their bodies collapsing to the ground.
The remaining guards stared at the creature in horror. They hadn’t expected the Thunder Leopard to be so deadly.
Joanne’s fury reached its peak as she screamed at the guard captain, “Kill him! Kill him now!”
The captain drew his sword and advanced toward Chris.
“Boy, you’ve gone too far by causing trouble here. I’ll show you the true power of the Wainwright family!”
Chris met the captain’s cold gaze without a trace of fear.
“Enough talk. Let’s fight.”
With that, Chris charged forward, his Dragon Slayer gleaming.
The captain sneered and thrust his sword to meet the attack.
Clang!
The clash of blades echoed like thunder. Both men were forced backward by the impact.
Chris steadied himself after a few steps, but the captain wasn’t so lucky. He stumbled, coughing up blood as he stared at Chris in disbelief.
“How… how is this possible?” he muttered, his face pale. He had never imagined that this young man could possess such overwhelming strength.
