9 weeks later, (Two months one week)
Ethan held my hand as the doctor scanned my stomach, my heart racing as I felt anxious.
Ethan had managed to make me fall in love with being pregnant, the idea of having a little human grow in my stomach overtook all my feelings of being too young and the obstacles of being with Ethan.
“Congratulations, your baby is healthy,” The Doctor said, moving the scanning machine around my stomach.
“Would you like to hear its heartbeat,” the doctor asked and I nodded.
“Of course” Ethan replied and I smiled.
I had no regrets about having a baby with Ethan anymore, within these past few days he had shown me how much he loved me and that he was ready to be there for me.
“Lup-dub-dub” The sound of my baby’s heartbeat made my heart flutter, the little tadpole-looking human floating in my womb, I grinned feeling elated as tears began to fall from my eyes.
“My baby!” I whispered before the doctor took the ultrasound machine away from my body and turned it off.
“Well everything seems fine, just don’t forget to keep taking your Folic Acid and eat well,” the doctors said handing me tissues to clean the gel off my stomach.
“Thank you doctor,” Ethan said shaking the doctor’s hands before the doctor began to pack up his medical equipment and the guards helped wheel them out.
“Should I ask the chef to bring your food over?” Ethan asked and I shook my head. he had been treating me like an egg throughout and rarely let me do things myself.
“Let’s have a picnic instead, then watch a movie together after” I suggested wanting to get some fresh air now that we were both sure the baby was fine.
Ethan nodded, and I got up from my bed, picking up my sunglasses and sunscreen.
“I would tell the maids to arrange it,” Ethan said rushing out of the room.
I had been stuck in the house for over two months, and even the introvert in me was tired. I enjoyed Ethan’s company, the attention and getting served but I also wanted to go out of the house.
I got dressed for the applying my sunscreen and putting on my mini flora gown before going downstairs.
I went downstairs to find Ethan instructing the maid on how to set up the picnic, with a mat and flowers by the poolside.
“What are they arranging out there? ” I asked the chef as I passed by the kitchen.
“Chicken Salad, steamed rice and vegetables, a basket of citrus and berries…” The chef began to list his usual meals and I cut him off.
“I get it, the usual,” I sighed, the chef made a timetable for a month and on every 2nd of the month, I had this particular meal.
“Any desserts?” I asked with a wide grin and he shook his head.
“Master Ethan said your sugar is still high” the chef explained and I rolled my eyes, who knew Ethan could be so strict and boring?
“Don’t worry about what Ethan said, can you please make me some chocolate cake” I instructed the man who looked reluctant on whose orders to obey.
“We just did a scan, and the baby is fine, don’t I deserve a little cake as a reward after everything I have been through” I began to raise my voice getting emotional about the cake.
“Yes ma’am, right away,” Chef Jerry said, he made the best chocolate cake and unfortunately he only made it once before my sugar level was tested.
I grinned feeling better as I made my way to the poolside where the picnic set up was made.
“This is nice” I sighed, finally getting out and taking a deep breath, I moved further out of the shade, letting the sun hit my skin.
“Now that we are sure our baby is fine, don’t you think I need maternity gowns” I said to Ethan who was already sitting on the mat staring at me.
“Yes, I would ask Ivy to send some over,” Ethan said and I shook my head, taking my eyes away from the sun and staring at him.
“No, I don’t like what she has been sending over, let’s go together, I would pick out my clothes myself” I requested, I just wanted to go out somewhere.
“Let’s eat then we can discuss it okay” Ethan suggested, and I nodded. slouching my shoulder and walking to the mat.
I sat on the mat eating the boring meal quietly.
The fruits and virgin mojito mocktail helped reduce the feeling of nausea, as I took a sip of the mocktail after each bite.
I ate small saving my stomach for the chocolate cake and just as I was finishing the maid walked in with a big tray of chocolate cake on cue.
“Thank you,” I said grinning from ear to ear and following the tray with my eyes until she placed it in front of me.
“Chocolate cake, I thought your sugar…” Ethan was about to protest when I spat at him.
“The baby is fine, I deserve this” I yelled and he smiled, leaning his back and not saying a word.
I munched down two huge slices of chocolate cake, feeling so satisfied before laying on the mat to watch the now sunset.
“This is nice” I sighed to Ethan who just sat beside me quietly.
“I feel suffocated being couped up in the house,” I said again hoping to pass a message but Ethan just smirked.
“Well now you have confirmed you are expecting, don’t you think it’s time you talk to your father” Ethan brought that up out of nowhere.
He had been asking that I tell my father about the baby for the past few days now, but I have refused.
“No,” I said sitting up from the mat.
“we can go to Ashville to tell him. It would be a chance to meet your friends and unwind. you can also check up on your art gallery ” Ethan suggested and I cut him off
“I don’t think we should tell anyone just yet” I protested. I was scared to tell my father, honestly more ashamed than scared, how could I tell my father I was expecting a child for Ethan, that would be me saying out loud that I had s*x out of wedlock, my traditional father could disown me.
Hmm, Ethan sighed, “is there a reason you don’t want to tell him?” he wondered and I rolled my eyes.
“Is there a reason you want me to tell him” I changed and redirected the question to him, why was he pushing this so hard?
“Yes,” Ethan confessed getting to his feet and pulling out a beautiful diamond-shaped box from his pocket.
“I wanted to do this after I got your father’s approval, and in a romantic way, but I don’t think I can wait anymore” Ethan smiled kneeling on the ground in front of me.
“I don’t have a speech planned yet and I don’t know the right words to use, but all I know is I want to spend the rest of my life with you”
“I want us to be a family, I want to have children with you, I want to die in your arms, live in your arms, I want you Emily, and everything that comes with you,” he said and my heart fluttered.
“Would you do me the honors of being my wife, will you marry me?”
