As the plane descended at night, the land below looked like a dark river, with thousands of lights scattered across it, resembling a starry sky on the ground.
Lillian closed her eyes, exhausted.
She hadn’t expected her escape to go so smoothly.
With Old Mrs. Brown’s help, she should be able to relax now.
No need to hide anymore. She could start a new life.
She just wondered whether Conrad had read the letter she left for him. She hoped he wouldn’t trouble Melissa, Kama, or go after her teacher and the others.
At that moment, the plane’s intercom announced a message.
“Dear passengers, we have an urgent announcement. Due to environmental conditions, our flight, NF6680, will be making an emergency landing in City Q…”
This announcement immediately caused the passengers inside the plane to frown.
“Why? After we land in City Q, when will we be able to depart?”
“My family’s waiting to pick me up.”
Lillian’s mind was in turmoil, and she just hoped it was indeed due to the weather.
However, when the plane landed in City Q, the people who boarded made Lillian freeze.
A man dressed in a black suit, with handsome features and a cold demeanor, immediately drew the attention of the surrounding passengers.
“Going home.” He said only these words, then leaned down, unbuckled her seatbelt, and took her hand to lead her off the plane.
She couldn’t resist because she knew clearly that if she didn’t cooperate now, this man would make the entire plane, and even the whole airport, wait until she couldn’t hold out any more and voluntarily leave her seat.
They stepped off the plane, the cold wind whipping her long hair around. A car was already waiting by the plane.
She didn’t know what the people inside the plane thought.
She just felt deeply powerless.
“Conrad, I don’t have a home.”
Conrad turned his head. “If you want to make trouble, I’ll go along with you. I’ll do it for a lifetime. You want to wear down my patience? You’re dreaming.”
He added, “Blame yourself for crawling to my feet back then. From that moment, you had no choice.”
“Then what will it take for you to let me go?” Lillian asked, her voice weak.
Conrad’s fingers gently swept the stray hairs from her face. “I’ll never let you go. Get over it.”
Lillian was shoved into the car.
They would be taking a private jet back to City N.
Lillian felt like her escape had turned into a joke.
It seemed like Conrad enjoyed playing this game-catching her again and again, completely crushing any hope she had of leaving.
This time, Lillian felt numb.
“I’ll assign a female bodyguard to you.”
“I don’t need one.”
“Fine.” Conrad sneered. “Because no matter the outcome, I’ll bring you back. In this life, you’ll only be by my side. Fulfill the promise you made all those years ago.”
Lillian didn’t want to talk to this man anymore.
Meanwhile, at the White family’s celebration dinner, Conrad didn’t show up, and Daisy spent the entire night in a terrible mood.
But just then, Alice, who had come with her father, wanted to chat with Daisy alone, making things even more irritating.
“Sorry, I don’t have any control over the internal staff situation at Brown Family Group. How about when I see Conrad next time, I’ll put in a word for you? I’m really busy tonight and can’t keep entertaining you.” Daisy said the polite words and tried to leave.
At that moment, Alice suddenly spoke. “Don’t forget to take care of that driver from the car accident, Miss Daisy.”
Daisy paused in her steps, turned her head, and calmly looked at Alice, her smile still elegant. “What? What driver?”
Alice looked at her and said, “Don’t worry, Miss Daisy, I share your thoughts. A woman like that shouldn’t stay by Mr. Conrad’s side. I hope that, in the end, Miss Daisy will become Mrs. Conrad.”
Alice stood up. “Miss Daisy, I’ll take my leave now. Just a little reminder for you: you should still be cautious in your actions moving forward. I’ve always supported you, and I just hope that after everything is settled, Miss Daisy, you will remember my advice today. Don’t forget to lend me a hand.”
With that, Alice left, leaving Daisy to process everything alone.
Daisy’s smile stiffened into a twisted expression, and the next second, she turned and quickly returned to the banquet hall. After entertaining a few guests, she shakily reached into her bag to grab her phone and called Irene.
Irene rushed into the lounge and immediately noticed that Daisy seemed distracted.
“Miss Daisy, what’s the rush? What’s going on?”
“Why did you take so long to get here? Where did that driver go? Which country did he travel to? Do you have any contact with him?”
“I’m not sure. After he arrived in Germany, we lost contact. If we try to trace it now, it could expose us.”
“No, you need to find a way to get rid of him immediately. And his son-no witnesses. They mustn’t be left alive. After all, only the dead can’t speak. Hurry up and have someone contact him. Also, get rid of that woman named Alice.” Daisy turned to Irene.
Irene stiffened. “Alice? The eldest daughter of the Pink family? It’s not easy to deal with her.”
“How could she know about this? It must have been Evelyn! That woman cannot be left alive! Find a way to kill her. As for Alice, I’ll handle her personally.”
Daisy kept waiting, unable to sleep even after the banquet had ended. Lying in bed, she couldn’t get any rest.
“Miss,” Irene called late at night.
Daisy glanced at the time; it was already 3 a. m., but she wasn’t even a little bit sleepy. Every time she thought about Conrad catching her for all of this, she couldn’t stop trembling.
“Have you found him? What’s the situation?”
“We sent someone locally to look for him, but the place was already empty. However, his belongings were still there, covered in dust, as if no one had been living there for a long time. What’s strange, though, is that his important documents and a large amount of cash were still there.”
Daisy’s lips trembled. “What do you mean?”
“I’m not sure either.”
“You can’t not know! You need to figure this out! Who took him? If you don’t find out, don’t bother coming back!”
