Sara’s POV
I gasp and press my palm to his chest to create some distance between us. But instead of pushing him away, my hand goes lax on his shirt, as though reluctant to go through with its mission.
“Maybe she does,” I say, “why would she pair me with four mates?”
His hand goes still on my back. “Four? If you are counting the Alpha King, doesn’t that make it three?”
My hand finally finds the strength to apply pressure on his chest. He doesn’t budge right away, but he does after what I say. “It’s not just you and Levi. Christian too.”
“What?” He pulls away and frowns at me. “You have a bond with Christian?”
I nod. “He was keeping it secret, like you. I was going to reveal everything to the three of you tonight, but…” Christian decided to show off his lover, Levi was not around, and I decided coming to this party was the best thing for my sanity.
“Wow,” he mumbles, pacing. “That little fucker. I’ve been wondering why he has been making a point of getting in Levi’s way where you are concerned. When did he find out about your bond?”
“On my third day here. He made it quite clear that he didn’t want to mate with me.”
“But he didn’t reject you,” he notes. It must be obvious. If Christian rejected me back then, he wouldn’t be so eager to get between me and Levi.
“No,” I say.
“That’s weird,” he says, shaking his head. “For as long as I’ve known him, Christian has hated the idea of mating. He once told me if he ever met his fated one, he would reject her on the spot or even kill her if he had to.”
“He did try that.”
“Yet he didn’t go through with it,” he states. “So that’s why you were able to find him yesterday.”
“Yeah.”
He laughs. “I can’t wait to see Levi’s face when he finds this out.”
“Where is he, anyway? He wasn’t in the dorm and I thought he would be here.”
“He went home.”
“Home? Is his sentence done?”
“Sentence? Oh. You were sentenced here.”
“Wasn’t everyone?”
“Not by the law, at least. Some of us were dumped here by our families because they thought we needed a little discipline. Levi happens to have really strict parents who thought North Academy was the right place to shape him into a fearless Alpha. That’s why he can leave sometimes. He’ll be back in a day or two.”
No wonder Kai has been so bold tonight. He is often shameless and says things that make Levi want to throttle him, but there’s a line he never crosses. Unlike Christian who has openly challenged Levi about me, Kai has been content to act like a spectator. I should have known he was waiting for a chance to have me all to himself.
“So, do you still think the Goddess does not make mistakes?”
He takes my hand and leads me from the heart of the crowd. We end up at the fringes of the clearing.
Folding his arms over his chest, he narrows his eyes at me. “Are you sure you are an Omega?”
“What?”
“I’m sure you have heard about the forsaken.”
I nod, wondering where he is going with this. Every Omega knows who the forsaken is. It’s the very worst thing that could happen to one of us. Naturally, we learn about it very young and grow up with the fear that we’ll turn out to become one.
“They are so weak, so powerless, they could as well not be werewolves,” Kai says. “And they never have a fated mate.”
“Yes.”
“The forsaken aside, it’s more likely for an Omega to never have a fated mate. Not because of death, but because they never existed.”
“I know that too.”
“For Omegas, you can have a fated mate or not. Not two, not three, and definitely not four. Cases of werewolves having two mates are rare and far between, and they are never Omegas.”
“Maybe mine is a very rare case.”
“Yeah, no. I heard you are an orphan. Do you know anything about your parents?”
“I was one when they died, so no.”
“Your adoptive parents didn’t tell you anything about them?”
“I never asked.”
“Maybe you should have.”
I can’t now, can I?
“You are overthinking,” I tell him. “If I wasn’t an Omega, why would I be so weak?”
If my parents hadn’t come from an Omega lineage, I would be stronger.
“Good point,” he says.
I roll my eyes and lean back against a nearby tree. “You almost got me excited for a moment there.”
“You do know that if you mate with an Alpha, you’ll become stronger, right? It’s the best way for Omegas to become powerful.”
And not many Alphas are willing to stick to their Omega mates, so guess what? Not many Omegas ever rise above their station.
He drops his arms and steps closer. “Now, imagine if you mated with all three of us.”
It takes several seconds for his statement to sink into my mind. When it does, I look at him as if he has lost his mind. He must have.
“That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard, ever.”
“I still think the Goddess doesn’t make mistakes.”
I shake my head. “Stop right there.”
“Maybe you are meant to be some powerful werewolf queen, and the three of us are but your humble servants. What do they call it? A harem. The harem that you need to unlock your full potential. We are the key.”
I stare at him. I’m having a hard time deciding whether he is being serious or not. He is the kind of person who would make such a joke with a straight face.
He gets closer still. “Do you want to tell me you haven’t thought about it?”
“Thought about what?”
“The three of us. With you, together”
“Kai!” He really has lost his mind. If I had a glass of water in hand, I would dump it on his face to bring him back to his senses.
“Hot, right?”
No. This must be a dream. It must be. I left the party, got back to my room, and went to sleep. And now, after a day of having such near sexual brushes with both Christian and Kai, my mind has taken a wild ride into erotic dreamland.
“Levi is such an irritating bastard, but he is so hot when he gets all possessive, isn’t he?”
Holy smokes.
That’s Edna’s thought.
“I’ve had dreams. About you. And him.”
I stop breathing. If this is a joke, he has taken it too far. When he stops, there’s barely any space left between us. He lowers his head.
“I thought I was going crazy. I mean, sure, I love threesomes. But only when it involves two girls.”
“This is not funny,” I manage to get past my dry throat.
“No, it’s not. I should be mad at the idea of another male touching you. Why does it turn me on?”
My knees grow weak, and the world spins. I swallow but my throat remains dry.
Then he is touching my face. His fingers are gentle, but they leave so much fire behind.
“Have you had dreams like that?”
Yes!
Edna, again.
I need to get away from him. If he keeps saying such things to me and touching me…
“Sara?” he whispers.
The spinning world gets too much, and my eyes flutter shut against my will. Then everything goes blank.
