~YULIA
My world was filled with constant danger.
It was something that I had no choice but to get used to. Somewhere along the line, I knew that I had no happily ever after in my fate. Ever since I had been Mated in secret to Issa and his dark wolf, Iran, I had been targeted now more than ever.
I had no idea who was chasing us but I knew why. They wanted me dead. They wanted my blood and they would do anything to get it…to spill it. Issa violently swerved the car till he was facing his pursuers. He killed the engine as the four cars spread out to corner us. The large river was behind us.
We were trapped.
Issa opened the glove compartment and brought out a large silver handgun. It was so big; I knew that I needed two of my hands just to hold it. He clicked the safety off and looked at me.
“Stay beside me.”
He opened up the door. I did the same and followed him till we reached the front of the car. He had tucked the gun in at the back of his waistband. Then he sat fearlessly on the hood of the car and waited.
The four cars opened at the same time and I saw men in suits step out. I immediately recognized their leader and the only woman amongst them. The men were twelve in number plus the Alpha and his Luna making fourteen.
“What do they want?” I whispered to Issa.
“They think I owe them something,” Issa said as he watched them approach him slowly and cautiously.
Only the Alpha and his Luna moved forward, the twelve men stayed behind and kept looking left and right as if they were expecting something bad to happen at any moment.
The couple stopped a few feet before Issa and I.
“I had hoped that we would meet under better circumstances, Lycan Frostwood, but you are a very hard man to pin down,” Petr Raspustin said as he glared at Issa.
Issa made no effort to reply. He just leaned back casually on the hood of his car, while I watched with curiosity.
Olga, Petr’s Luna gazed at me with her stark piercing ocean blue eyes but she said nothing.
“We have unfinished business, your family and mine,” Petr continued. “And I am quite offended that you are not eager to settle this business.”
Petr had on a pristine black suit over a white soft silk shirt, with matching trousers and black shoes. His gold cufflinks gleamed under the evening setting sun. His Luna, Olga had on a cream soft long-sleeved shirt tucked in a maroon baggy suit pants and cream-coloured heels. Her blonde-white hair was severely pulled back in a long ponytail, revealing her almost picture-perfect face.
“I have a lot of unfinished business, you might want to be specific,” Issa replied casually.
Olga scoffed.
“The Rasputin family allied with the Frostwood family to stop the war between werewolves and witches, and we lost quite a number of good pack members to that war, if I remember correctly,” Petr said.
“I remember that you were handsomely compensated for your troubles,” Issa said with a nonchalant shrug.
“Gold and diamonds can only do so much, don’t you think, Lycan Issa?” Olga asked in a cold voice.
“You seem to be wearing it quite well, if you do not mind me saying,” Issa replied, glancing at the cufflinks on Petr’s wrists. “If you want more gold, all you need to do is ask, not chase me around town in my own territory.”
“We did no such thing,” Petr said quietly. “We just wanted to talk and you made us chase you.”
A mischievous smile appeared on Issa’s face. “I was bored,” he replied with a shrug.
“Well, I hope you were entertained,” Olga said, her tone scathing.
I shook my head, amazed at Issa’s behaviour.
“If you do not want my gold, then what do you want?” Issa asked.
Olga glared at me. “Does she have to be present in this discussion?”
“What are you ashamed of?” I blurted out before I could stop myself. I knew what this whole thing was all about and I was aware that Issa also knew.
“Take one of our daughters as your consort,” Olga demanded.
I scoffed. “Do you have a problem with that, Ms. Moonshadow?” Olga asked in a cold tone.
“Your parenting style is just shocking, that is all,” I mocked.
“We are only here for what was promised by your father, Issa,” Petr said.
“My father is dead, so whatever promises he made to you died with him,” Issa replied. “I owe you nothing.”
“Have you no honour?” Petr asked in a low cold voice.
“Let me get this straight, my honour is called into question because I do not want to put my cock in your daughters,” Issa said. “Do you hear yourselves?”
“You do not have to be so vulgar about it, Frostwood,” Petr said, his face was white with rage. “You will show me the respect that I deserve!”
“Trust me, it is hard to respect an Alpha who would rather pawn off his own daughters as cum dumps instead of letting them find their own mates the proper way,” Issa replied.
“A promise was made!” Olga thundered.
“Control your Luna, Petr, I do not like being yelled at,” Issa said casually.
“But she is right,” Petr replied. “A promise was indeed made.”
“By a dead Lycan,” Issa replied. “I am not my father, nor do I intend to be.”
“You do not want to make an enemy of us, Lycan Frostwood,” Olga threatened.
I watched the whole thing in awe.
“You were already my enemies the moment you came into my territory uninvited,” Issa said and stood upright. The sounds of boats speeding on water came to my ears.
I looked out to the river and saw men clad in black military fatigues armed with guns on speedboats, heading towards us.
“You have ten minutes to get the fuck out of my lands, before I unleash the full force of my death squad on you,” Issa said.
Petr nodded to Olga who turned towards the cars and her men and began to hastily head towards them.
Petr looked at Issa one last time. “I will get what I want, one way or the other.” He said and walked away.
