Nicholas POV
“Alpha,” Ronan’s voice chimed in my ears as he called for my attention from the office door. “May I enter?”
I slowly raised my eyes from my task and shifted my attention to him. I was studying and memorizing the old maps.
“Sure,” I waved him in. “Any news?”
Ronan’s lips curled into a sly smile while his eyes glittered in excitement. He quickly entered my office, closing the door behind him.
“We found Terra,” he answered proudly, and waited for my response.
“That was exceptionally fast,” I replied, raising my eyebrows in surprise. Ronan and Levi went in for the kill upon finding her. “Where is she now?”
“The guards are escorting her down to the interrogation room,” he replied.
“Good,” I said, lying back in my chair. I was interested in knowing how deeply she was involved in all this.
“Should I start the interview?” Ronan asked.
It was difficult not to notice the excitement that was bubbling up inside Ronan. Ronan exuded a sparkle in his eyes, a perpetual grin on his lips, and his body posture was reminiscent of a five-year-old child on Christmas day.
I could already imagine how much fun he’d have torturing her. The sounds of her screaming, begging, and whimpering resonated with me, bouncing off the walls of the dungeon.
Ronan was in charge of our pack interrogations. He was exceptionally adept at getting information out of people. I stopped interfering a long time ago, knowing he was on par with the task.
But today, I needed to join him.
It wasn’t that I was worried that Ronan would torture her to an extent that she wasn’t able to answer any more questions; it was because I wanted a turn in torturing her for all she had done.
“Yes,” I replied, and Ronan turned around and rushed toward the door. “But I want to be part of this interview.”
Ronan stopped with his hand on the office door and turned to look at me.
“Are you sure, Alpha?” he asked, knowing what he was referring to. I had fainted during the shift earlier and found myself torn between the worlds of wolf and man.
“I am fine,” I replied. “I feel as healthy as any other wolf.”
Ronan cocked a taunting eyebrow at me. He didn’t believe me, and I didn’t care. I was going to be part of this exercise whether he liked it or not.
“You haven’t been in an interview since Isabella’s death,” he said, holding my gaze.
“I know,” I replied. “But this is different. This is personal.”
I stepped out from behind my desk and went closer. Ronan’s eyes never left me.
“Zara is my mate,” I stated. “And she is in danger. I know Terra’s got a thing for me, but…”
“Don’t you think that is the exact reason why you shouldn’t be part of the interview…?” Ronan interrupted me.
“I need to be there, Ronan,” I said. “I can’t just sit on the sideline and watch. This is my mate’s life we are talking about! Your Luna!”
Ronan’s eyes softened, and he nodded his head in understanding.
We found Levi standing outside the dungeons, laying his back against the outside wall and balling his hands into fists.
“Someone seems anxious,” Ronan commented.
I nodded in agreement. Levi did seem annoyed about something.
“Beta,” I greeted, as we got closer and Levi met my gaze.
“Alpha, this is an unexpected surprise,” he said wide-eyed, looking between me and Ronan. I guess he was just as surprised as Ronan about my visit.
I ignored Levi’s remark and headed toward the door.
Upon opening the door, Terra’s voice cut through the silent dungeon.
“She seems very happy?” I commented and descended the stairs.
“She has been asking for you nonstop,” Levi said, irritated.
“Then we will be giving her what she wants,” I replied, a smile following on my lips. I could just imagine her face when she saw me.
“Do you think it’s advisable for her to see you like this?” Levi asked. “She might inform…”
“That would not be possible,” Ronan coughed behind us.
Levi’s gaze met mine, and he knitted his eyebrows, confused. The unspoken question settled between us.
“What Beta Ronan is trying to say is that these walls have abilities….” I said, coming to a stop.
“No magic works here,” Ronan added.
“What does that even mean?” Levi asked, the confusion growing in his face.
“No one can shift into their wolves or use the mind link…” I explained.
“You are basically human down here,” Ronan added. “Of course that works to my advantage…”
The same excited emotion crossed Ronan’s eyes, and a cold, unholy feeling ran down my back. He was going to make Terra suffer.
“Thank the Goddess he is on my side,” I muttered as Ronan passed us.
Levi’s gaze met mine; more unspoken questions crossed his eyes, yet he hesitated and decided it was best to ask nothing more.
Ronan came to a stop at the interrogation room’s door, and he gestured to me if he might enter.
I nodded, giving him permission, and Levi followed him inside.
I went further down the hallway and entered a observation room. Two guards waited inside, their gazes pinned on Terra. The sight of me startled them.
“Has anything interesting happened?” I asked, ignoring their bewildered gazes. They will need to adjust to my new appearance. I couldn’t predict how long I would remain stuck like this.
“N-no, Alpha,” one of the guards answered nervously.
“The she-wolf was just complaining nonstop about being down here,” the other guard added. “She believes she has done nothing wrong.”
I nodded, took a stand at the window, and crossed my arms around my chest.
Ronan had already started with his questioning. He was obviously toying with Terra, asking random questions.
“What is the real reason for your return?” Ronan inquired in a casual and friendly tone.
Yet, I knew all that was just an act. He was the devil himself-a wolf covered in sheep’s clothes.
“You already know the answers to these questions,” Terra answered irritably, rolling her eyes as she crossed her arms under her huge breasts. “I don’t have to repeat them to you, Beta.”
A smile suddenly formed on my lips as Terra’s gaze shifted to Levi. He was lying with his back against the wall, quietly observing Terra, shifting his head from side to side.
Terra licked her lips, eyeing him, taking his handsome features in. A chuckle abruptly escaped my lips, making the warriors nervous behind me.
“Oh, Terra,” I muttered, my smile widening. “If only you knew what I knew, I wouldn’t even try flirting with Beta Levi; you are not his type…”
Ronan shifted his gaze toward Levi, raising an eyebrow. Levi abruptly stepped forward and went to sit at the table opposite Terra.
“But I don’t know the reason for your return,” Levi said and pouted. “I would love to hear what such a gorgeous thing has to say. Would you tell me your story…?”
