My life felt like it had fallen into chaos.
Ever since Lucian’s betrayal, everything seemed to spiral out of control.
I was forced into a tangled mess with Kael, and Vivienne had her sights set on me.
On top of that, I had to deal with Vivienne’s admirers at the boxing club…
And what was that red-eyed werewolf all about?
I used to be just an ordinary girl, focused on finishing my studies and finding a decent job in the future.
But now, everything had changed.
And I had to face the fact that I couldn’t go back to the way things were before.
“Listen, Seraphina, no matter what you think, I need to tell you this-you’re surrounded by danger. You need to learn to protect yourself.”
“You mean those bullies? Don’t worry, I won’t let them push me around,” I said.
Though I wasn’t entirely confident, I didn’t want to appear too weak in front of Kael.
Kael sighed when he heard my words. He seemed like he wanted to say more, but when he met my stubborn gaze, he stayed silent.
“Just be careful, Seraphina.”
I couldn’t shake the feeling that Kael was hiding something from me.
What was it?
I returned to the Eagle Club.
Rebecca didn’t seem to care whether I was there or not. When she saw me, she smiled and greeted me.
“Did you go out with Kael?”
I nodded.
“Oh, you didn’t have to rush back,” Rebecca said.
I was surprised. “Why? I’m sorry I didn’t finish my work.”
I felt uneasy. Was Rebecca upset with me?
But her face was full of smiles, her eyes soft and warm.
“Relax, Seraphina. From now on, you can do whatever you want with Kael, even during work hours.”
I finally understood-Rebecca wasn’t joking. She wanted me to get closer to Kael.
Thinking about what Kael had told me-that he could arrange my work-I felt a surge of irritation.
Even though I resisted the idea of being tied to Kael, I still had to live under his authority.
He seemed like a god at the Eagle Club, controlling everything.
After Rebecca’s instructions, she sent me home to rest.
Her kindness made me feel like I could relax and take it easy from now on.
But this wasn’t what I wanted.
I hated the feeling of being controlled.
Even if it meant an easy life and a hefty paycheck, I despised it.
And I still didn’t know what Vivienne was thinking.
Would she keep targeting me in different ways?
After saying goodbye to Rebecca, I passed by the clinic.
Coincidentally, Magnus was just coming out.
“Seraphina, are you off work?” Magnus smiled at me.
His blue eyes were stunning, like a gentle sea enveloping me.
“Yes.”
“How are you feeling today? Getting used to the work here?”
“It’s great,” I said.
But for some reason, I felt Magnus’s gaze lingering on me.
His brow furrowed, and he didn’t seem as cheerful as before.
This made me nervous, and I asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing… Wait, Seraphina, the wound on your face-it’s healed so well. You can barely tell there was ever such a big scar.”
Magnus seemed to have just noticed how quickly my wound had healed. His eyes widened in surprise.
His hand reached up to touch my cheek.
His body was always warm, and his hand felt even hotter.
When his fingers brushed my cheek, the heat made my skin tingle.
The strange sensation made me flustered.
But he didn’t just touch it-he gently rubbed the spot for a while.
He leaned in closer, examining my skin intently.
He probably didn’t realize how intimate our position looked.
If I tilted my head just a little, it would look like he was about to kiss me.
I took a step back, and Magnus’s hand lingered in the air before he finally lowered it.
“I don’t know why it healed so fast. Maybe the wound wasn’t that deep,” I explained, forcing a smile.
I was nervous, unsure if Magnus would believe me or dig deeper.
As a medical student, he might notice that my wound was healing unusually quickly.
“That just means you have a strong constitution, Seraphina,” Magnus said with a smile.
“Come on, I’m off work too. Let’s grab dinner together.”
Once again, I found myself having dinner with Magnus.
He took me to a different restaurant, one famous for its beef dishes-every cut imaginable.
From the outside, it looked incredibly upscale. I thought about my savings and hesitated.
Dinner here might cost me a month’s worth of living expenses.
I was unsure whether to go in, but Magnus turned to me and said, “Last time, you treated me. This time, it’s my turn. Seraphina, don’t be shy!”
God! I was surprised. Magnus had noticed my financial struggles and was being so considerate.
He was such a thoughtful, gentle person-more of a gentleman than any other guy I knew.
“Alright,” I said, deciding not to be awkward about it. Magnus could treat me this time, and I’d return the favor later.
I’d get my paycheck soon, and then I could treat him.
Once I made up my mind, I felt a little more at ease.
Magnus smiled when I agreed. “Thank you, Seraphina. I’m really happy you’re joining me.”
“No, no, I should be thanking you for treating me,” I quickly replied.
By the end, we both laughed.
“You always tell me not to say thank you too much, but look at you now,” Magnus chuckled.
“I’ve been loving this place lately,” Magnus said as we sat down to order. “Like I mentioned last time, the meat at the other place wasn’t fresh enough. But here, it’s beyond fresh.”
“Really?” I was surprised. For me, food was just about filling my stomach. As long as it wasn’t terrible, I didn’t have strong opinions.
“Yes, it’s delivered fresh every day. You’ll see when you try it,” Magnus said, starting to order.
