Mena
It had been such a long time since I had heard such a loud bass in my ears. So long that I couldn’t even remember.
The lights flashed all colors, and from the balcony of the VIP area, I could see people occupying the dance floor, having fun and showing some life.
Way different than any atmosphere I had been in for the last couple of months.
My eyes searched for Alessio, and the moment they’d found him, I had to let out a chuckle. His hands were around Gian, and he helped him stand up straight. He was so drunk he couldn’t remember his name anymore.
The area was filled with his entourage. Beautiful women who had indeed gave me a run for my money, and more of his friends. Alessio also knew the guys. Some of them I had seen at the Fanucci mansion. Alessio didn’t look all that surprised at the outcome, and I guessed must’ve been used to Gian’s way of partying.
Even though he was supporting his brother, he was still joking around with the guys and having a good time. When we had walked in, lots of women tried to grab his attention, and although he tried keeping his distance, he didn’t reject any of them.
He also didn’t leave my side, until I stepped back from everyone. For some reason I had expected him to give the women the same cold look he used to give me. How impressive would it have been, if he had been like-back up, I have a fiancee.
A blonde locked her arm with his to laugh at whatever was being said, and he stroke her arm with his finger. Only when my teeth were hurting, I realized that I was actually clenching them. At Alessio flirting with other women…
God, what was happening to me?
“Girl, I got you another shot!” Pilar handed me a drink, making me forget my thoughts. The strong smell of the liquor went straight through my nostrils, and I chugged it down in one go.
“Oh, that was strong,” I scrunched my nose, feeling my throat burn. I hadn’t partied in a long time, and yes-I deserved it. The aftermath was something I would deal with tomorrow.
“It wasn’t even that bad,” Pilar softly knocked her fist on my head. She came immediately when I texted her, saying I didn’t want to be alone with whatever trash I would find in that VIP area, and I was glad to have a friend who would have my back.
Pilar and I squealed as we heard a loud shout behind us, and suddenly Gian had his arm slammed around my shoulder.
His breath smelled like a future hangover, and perhaps a blackout.
“Sister in law with the new look, and…. oh fuck I forgot.”
“Pilar. I’m not going to tell you again,” Pilar rolled her eyes with a playful smirk.
“Pilar!” Gian clapped his hands with still his arm over my shoulder, and I dodged a hit just in time. He whistled with his fingers, somehow managing to beat the loud music.
“Another round of shots for everyone because my beautiful sister, and her friend with the attitude are here!”
Everyone cheered, but Pilar tapped his shoulder repeatedly. “I don’t have an attitude?”
“You kind of do-”
“No, I do not!”
As the two were quibbling, it came to mind that Gian was the brother that wouldn’t even take a second to give me any time of his day. Out of all the Fanuccis, I thought he disliked me the most-even more than his uncle.
How far must he have been for him to call me his sister? Beautiful at that.
Still in his grip, I attempted to release myself only to get pulled closer. “Oh, okay,” I awkwardly giggled, feeling another one of his rants was about to start.
“When I heard about this thing between you and my brother,” he began. “I talked so much shit about you, trust me-you don’t want to know!”
Pilar nudged his shoulder. “Dude-”
“But!” Gian pushed her hand away. “Just the fact that Alessio’s dick is still in his pants? I mean, he is definitely looking but…he isn’t touching.”
What was he even getting at?
“Alright, let’s get you some water big guy,” Pilar pulled him away this time. As she dragged him to the table she gave me a wink, hinting she would take care of it.
Still in his pants? How long would it take before he would whip it out then?
Frustrated, I looked at Alessio again. This time three women were glued to his side, and he was smiling ear to ear.
It shouldn’t have bothered me that much, but it did. It bothered me so much that it took every bone in my body not to drag them off him and tell them to get lost.
A few hours ago, I was scared of this man.
I had never been territorial, not with Anson, not with anyone. Whenever I saw girls talking about ‘my man, my man,’ I used to laugh at them because I couldn’t understand.
Hell, this wasn’t even my man.
I didn’t want him to be, but by now it appeared he had completely forgotten about me and that I couldn’t accept.
It only took a breath before a fourth girl took her chance and held on to Alessio’s arm.
“Oh, god-not again.” I muttered after clenching my teeth again. Who was I clenching my teeth for?
Seeing no better option than to escape the scene playing out in front of me, I walked down the stairs, straight from the busy dance floor to the bar. At least that way I wouldn’t need to visit a dentist next week.
“Can I get you anything?” The bartender asked.
I shook my head, “No, just sitting.”
As some time passed, I couldn’t stop thinking about Alessio. How many girls must he have around his arms by now?
Five?
Six?
My body left the scene, but my mind hadn’t. “Shit, this is so annoying,” I thought out loud, knowing no one would be able to hear me anyway.
I truly had no idea why I felt this attached to him after opening up, but I had to figure it the fuck out. I had to keep it together.
“Here by yourself?” A voice interrupted me. I gazed at the man sitting beside me. He had brown tousled hair, bright blue eyes. Cute, but not as cute as…god save me.
Since when did we move on to comparing?
Too tired to explain about a fiance who wasn’t even watching over me, I gave him a simple nod. A smile crept on the guy’s face. I bet he thought he had succeeded and I would randomly go home with him because I didn’t have a boyfriend.
“What are you drinking?”
I shook my head. “I don’t drink.”
“Well, at least give me your name-beautiful?”
I pressed my lips together to give him my name, but it never came to that. “Out of your league, bro. You don’t want to go there,” Alessio spoke after aggressively pushing the stool beside me closer.
I didn’t know from where he had shown up, but he was there.
