Visiting their school

CHAPTER 118
ROBERT’S POV
With the help of one of the security men who guarded the estate, Lily’s house was in. The security guard who knew my family. I was able to find out the school my kids were attending. It wasn’t that difficult because he said almost every child in the estate attended the same school.
I couldn’t stay in that empty room to watch Lily from the surveillance equipment today because I decided to visit my kids. As much as I wanted to see the look on her face when she saw that every work-related file, document and mail on her system had been wiped out and her boss getting mad at her, I’ll have to pass it on for later. My intel, the security guard there will fill me in on everything.
My chauffeur and I stopped by a bakery to buy some cupcakes for the kids and their classmates. I would have opted for ice cream but they’ll melt before we get there. I don’t know their favourite food yet but I hope they’ll like it. Every child likes ice creams and cakes.
As we took the ride, I couldn’t help but feel anxious. Breathing properly even became hard work. I hadn’t felt this anxious in a while. I prayed my kids would appreciate my gesture and not reject me. After the painful rejection I suffered at the hands of Lily, I don’t think my heart can handle another one especially if it came from my kids. I was so scared of losing them. Scared of losing my family. I promise to do everything I can to make up for all that time I wasn’t present in their lives. That can only be possible if they give me a chance. I hope they give me a chance to make things right and be a better father. No matter how small. I promise never to make good use of it.
It didn’t take us long to arrive at school because it wasn’t so far from the estate. As we entered the school premises, I noticed everywhere was calm and no child was walking around. It was a couple of hours until midday. They must be having classes.
“Boss, the security man didn’t tell us where to find their classes, so how do we find them?” My chauffeur asked while carrying the cupcakes and following closely behind me.
Sadly, he was now aware of what I was going through but has been emphatic and helping out immensely. He was loyal to the core and up for any task, never complaining. That’s what I like most about him. He even went ahead to advise me on little things I could do to get Lily and the kids back and I was grateful for it.
“Honestly, I don’t know…” I sighed, rubbing my forehead to ease the tension and frustration growing inside me.
The security guard had done well in telling us the school the kids were attending, but he didn’t know their classes-I didn’t expect him to, though. The school was a massive district elementary, with a sprawling campus and a maze of classrooms. At nine years old, my kids should be in third or fourth grade, which means they’re mixed in with a lot of other students. It’s going to be really difficult to find them. I just wished there was someone we could ask for help or else we’d just be wasting time and walking around in circles.
“I think we should see the proprietor or just walk into any class and ask the teacher if they knew the kids,” he suggested casually.
“That could work,” I replied with a slight shrug.
We were about walking into a nearby classroom when a gasp, coming from a lady in front of us stopped our intended move.
Her hair was tied back in a tidy bun, the same vibrant shade matching her purple lipstick and knee-length flowy gown which had a modest neckline and balloon sleeves. Shielding her eyes was a pair of large, nerdy glasses that gave her a studious look. She just stood there with both hands against her rounded mouth, staring at us with wide eyes.
