Kayla
I bumped into Robin on my way back to the castle, he held me and whispered into my ears. “I have been looking for you, Kayla. Something about Louisiana’s story seemed odd. She doesn’t look like someone who just found out that her daughter is alive.”
I noticed Asher and Emily were having a discussion a little bit far from us and Louisiana had just left after insisting that the both of them inform the council that Emily is alive.
I didn’t want to be here when it happened. I couldn’t imagine just standing and watching while everyone congratulated the two of them. It would only hurt me more.
“I can’t say for sure but something doesn’t just add up. Their stories sound too crazy to be true.” I replied,
He nodded. “I was thinking the same and the only way out of this mess is to get the real truth from her. But how would I be able to achieve that without her suspecting a damn thing?
I signed. “Robin, I don’t think that would be a good idea. Asher wouldn’t want that and he might be furious if he finds out we are doubting his mate.”
Robin reached forward and touched my cheek lightly. “Believe me, my brother already has feelings for you and please give him a little time, he will see through her lies. He is still in shock right now and it’s taking him some time to get over it. Please Asher needs you in his life.”
“I’m not so sure about that,” I whispered. “Emily is a beauty to behold, so flawless. I don’t see any reason why Asher would not want her now that she is back.”
Robin’s eyes widened in shock. “Flawless?” He repeated as if he was just hearing the word the first time. “I can never define her with that word, she’s so far from it. You’re the one that’s actually flawless Kayla. I’m sure that everyone has seen that including Asher. You’re like a glowing sun that illuminates everything around you.”
I flushed at his words. I wished that was the way Asher saw me. My gaze went back to Asher and Emily, they weren’t having a happy conversation. I could tell by the way both of their voices were rising every second.
I gripped my dress in my hands as I felt a burning heat on the lower side of my stomach. I wriggled in pain, my hand collapsed on Robin’s shirt, which I tightly clutched like I was holding onto my very life.
I could feel my body burn like I was literally on fire. My knees began to weaken. My entire body turned numb. My eyes were spinning around and my head was lighter than a feather. I wanted to scream out Asher’s name but I just couldn’t. No matter how much I tried.
I didn’t have the strength for it. I gripped tighter to Robin’s shirt, my visions completely failing me. Before I could suck in another breath, my numb body fell into Robin’s arms. The last thing I heard was his voice whispering my name till it faded and I lost it to the darkness swallowing me.
It was like I was drowning in deep water. It was unbearably hot. Or better still, my body was burning hot. I jerked my eyes open and instantly a sweet, soothing, and calming scent invaded my nostrils. I moaned calmly.
It didn’t take away the sudden weakness I felt or the burning in my body, yet somehow, almost magically, it calmed me.
I pulled my eyes from the blank air, gasping back to reality. I yanked my body up. Immediately, a familiar large arms covered me, embracing me.
“It’s alright. Breathe Kayla” The voice kept on saying, rubbing my back in circles while stroking my hair. The words and actions also calmed me. I sighed, weakly pulling away to meet Asher and Robin’s worried eyes on me.
“You are back,” Robin muttered gently, a wave of relief settling on his shoulders.
I breathed. I felt sick to my bones. My eyes scanned around, and I noticed that I was on the bed in my chamber. The draperies in the window were pulled open and the sunlight was radiating a burning glow around the chamber. I groaned internally, a familiar pain gutting my stomach, and my body I felt so weak.
“What happened to me?” I asked, almost breathless from the weakness and discomfort that cowered in my bones. My eyes went up to Robin, who was studying me quietly.
“Kayla, you seem unwell. I had to go and fetch the physician to find out what was wrong. So relax and try not to stress yourself. I will be back shortly.” Asher said and rushed out of the chamber.
“You will be fine, Kayla. I am here with you.” Robin spoke softly, moving closer.
I nodded, it was difficult to talk in this weak state. My bones felt weak, my body held so much pain, and the burning heat within kept growing.
Oh goddess, what was wrong with me?
The growing heat in my stomach was getting worse, making me squirm in pain. I couldn’t understand my body. All I felt was a raging need within me.
The air around me in the chamber became intense. It was suffocating me. It was as if my entire body and soul were on fire. I needed air.
I pushed my feet to the floor, pulling myself up. I groaned in pain, moving to the door but Robin rushed to my side before I could make it outside the chamber and pulled me into his arms.
“Kayla! You are burning hot. You need to stay in bed, let me mind link Asher to hurry up with the physician.” He led me back to the bed.
“Please Robin, take me out of here. The pain is killing me from the inside. Help me!” My soft, weak voice sounded.
Robin looked like he wanted to mutter something, but suddenly stopped halfway, his eyes inspecting me. He placed a hand on my stomach, and I growled in pain. It was as if his touch burned my body further.
He stiffened, and a low growl escaped his throat. His deep emerald green eyes held me. His expression looked like he had realized something.
“Kayla, you are going into heat. The physician won’t be able to do much to take away the pain. All you need at the moment to ease the pain is Asher.” He explained
My oceanic blue eyes widened as he spoke.
“What?” I peered at him through my crystal blue eyes, shocked. But as the writhing continued, I curled more in pain on the bed.
Robin shot up from the bed, “I will find Asher immediately. Please Kayla no matter what happens, don’t leave your chamber.” He said before rushing out of the chamber, leaving me in my pain.
