“Derek, what are you doing here?!” Melvina screamed for the rest of the people in the room, who had the same thought in mind. She took it a step further, by standing up from the sofa, and hurrying toward her son, whose eyes kept opening and closing, out of weariness.
He shouldn’t be awake. He shouldn’t be here. Whatever magic that Lucille had knocked him out with, unintentionally, had shut down his organs. It was likened to when an ancient wanted to go to sleep underground; except that theirs was intentional, not abrupt like Derek’s. He was in a coma, and hadn’t been expected to be awake and conscious, in charge of his mind, for at least a month.
And yet, here he was, lying on the couch with a notable smirk, despite the weariness that clouded his face. Melvina couldn’t believe it.
“How….” She shut her mouth, and turned to look at the ancients, and Margo.
‘How is he awake?’ was outlined clearly in her eyes. Sadly, the group had no answer for her.
However, Margo stood up and sauntered toward her. “I will check him out.”
She placed her hand on Derek’s forehead, aware that the ancient, Kane, was now behind her.
Kane, who had gotten closer to Derek since their training had begun in the latter’s room, shed his spirit from his body without much ado, and entered into Derek’s body, determined to know what was going on in the lad. Behind him, gasps erupted from the group, from those who had never seen the technique before; the technique which was the healing procedure of the ancient community.
“Is his body conscious?” Lucille whispered to her sister, Freya.
Freya, a short smile on her face, shook her head. “It isn’t. If the body is done away with, then the ancient is dead. Kane is able to do that, because we are here. He is assured of the protection of his body.”
Lucille and Maya nodded their heads, and so did the others who heard the explanation. There was so much she needed to learn about her mate’s people. Lucille thought. She would borrow books from Agrip, and maybe share minds with Kane. The latter would be much better. She reasoned, watching Margo hovering her palm over Derek’s body, muttering a spell as the movement continued.
Lucille didn’t know what spell it was, but it sounded comforting.
Then Margo stopped. “He will be fine. His powers are strong enough, and so is his Lycan. It explains how he is able to talk only after a day of the accident. A good thing if I must say. The ancient would take care of the rest. He is doing a better job than I can ever think to do…”
Margo shook her head in awe, before walking back to her seat, whilst the group waited in thick silence for Kane to be done with whatever awesome thing he was doing in Derek’s body.
Margo hadn’t deemed it necessary to mention it, but the awe embedded in her face was enough pointer to the awesomeness of Kane’s activity within Derek. He would be in the best position to discuss Derek’s state.
Ten minutes later, Kane zapped out of Derek’s body into his own as white-hot light. Mouths dropped open as he jerked from his kneeling state, and staggered, looking paler than before.
Dobah, without much alarums and discussions, hurried to his brother, and stretched his hand toward him. “Drink, brother, and regain your strength.”
Kane immediately held his brother’s hand, and sunk his fangs into the latter’s wrist. The people watched in wonder as Kane’s color returned in an instant, as his eyes and features cleared totally of the weariness that had earlier besotted them.
“Wow, I feel great!” Derek’s enthusiastic exclamation caused the people to dart their shocked expression at him.
Derek stood on his feet, and flung his hand over Kane’s shoulder. Kane grimaced, to the amusement of the people in the large sitting room. “Thank you master…”
Kane’s grunt was the only response that Derek got before the latter shrugged his hand from his shoulders, and walked back to his seat. Derek chuckled softly and perused his body again. He had never felt so active.
“What…did…you do?” Melvina stuttered, not believing as she looked at her son who seemed so lively, even more than before.
“I repaired, and rejuvenated his organs. Don’t worry, he won’t turn ancient…”
Peter sighed, knowing that his previous attitude to Kane’s fellowship with his son, was the reason for the subtle jab to his mate. “Thank you, Kane, for saving my son.”
Kane only nodded, before glancing at Lucille who winked at him. The wink had more effect on his body, on his loins, than all the appreciation that was shining in the eyes of everyone in the room. He couldn’t wait to have her to himself again, to have back to her cheerful state. Derek’s state had traumatized her, and it had partly been the reason why he had worked on the latter’s organs until they were all perfect, so that his lifemate would quit worrying, so that she would dodge his sexual advances again.
“Well, this is good. Esther, do you need an ancient touch?” Nathan asked Esther who he believed needed the healing touch of an ancient, but still needed her consent. Derek’s had been different. He was already linked to Kane.
Esther shook her head to Anthony’s dismay. “Not yet. I would rather the meeting continue. I feel better than I look after all. But If I am in dire need, I will let you know. Thank you, Prince Nathan.”
Nathan nodded, then glanced at the entire people in the room. “Now, we were talking about something before Derek had distracted us….”
“You can have the abstenum…your people can have it.” Peter cut in, believing that it was the right thing to do. “The abstenum is of no use to us. I had pondered why my father had instructed me to guard the cave with my life, but seeing the recent happenings, I can only think that he must have known of your kind; he must have known that you lot would be needing the mineral sometime in the future.”
