CHAPTER 583: SHARE OF DUTIES

Book:The Alpha's Addiction Published:2025-2-23

After Sheila was done narrating the first time she had come in contact with rare humans, Ava raised her hand in query.
She had read in one of her special books-an avid reader like her grandfather-about humans being entrusted with gifts by the gods sometimes-especially in cases where the supernaturals fail to see reason, or fail to accomplish their purposes on this earth.
“Yes, Ava. What is your question?” Sheila asked; confidence pruned with calmness was her epitome at the moment, the exact attributes that they have always known her for.
“Rare human. The type you had met. What are they?”
Sheila cocked her head to the side, contemplating the best way to explain this.
“They are humans quite alright, but they were chosen randomly by the gods. The ones I know of are the Ingodils. I’m sure Annabel is part of the family, since the latter had mentioned them being overseers of the training field. They have an ancestry dedicated to keeping supernaturals away from harm, either from the humans or themselves. They are also skilled in training us. To better their chances against us, should we rebel against them, the gods gave them gifts. Unlike us that have gifts peculiar to our kind, theirs are quite random and varied by a long stretch. One in the family can be given the gift of visions, and the other a gift of healing, and the other a gift of strength, and the other is given teleportation. It’s just like that, and that’s why they move in groups, for the utmost utilization of their strengths, should push come to shove. It is surprising that Emma had found a single one.”
Ava nodded her head, getting the point. Her eyes found Agrip, her grandfather who hadn’t made a single sound since the meeting had started, not even a sound caused by a held-back laugh. She wondered what he was thinking about, and the deductions he had made from his always thorough observation.
“We also work with them. The Ingodils aren’t the only family entrusted with keeping us hidden from even hunters. There are more, and over the centuries, they have been a good ally to us, and we to them. Their auras are barely noticeable when seen, and they are so secretive in their ways. The reasons are obvious though-security. They are trustworthy and reliable. So, let’s not fret.” Nathan completed before turning to his daughters.
“You both have to start your training. Although the rare humans have very good training skills, I’m sure that with the number we have here, you wouldn’t be missing a lot. You would be starting at soon as possible. Margo, Keturah, when are you people leaving?”
Margo exchanged glances with Keturah. A beat of silence and Keturah was speaking. “Margo will stay here, since Esther is still around, recuperating. She will make her choice after then. But I have to leave. I have to get the alliance settlement to the Queen, and I have to put some things in order.”
Margo nodded in agreement. She had just found her daughter, she couldn’t bare to lose her.
“Alright then. Margo, could you take Freya and Lucille on magic classes. Their other abilities will be taken care of the others. Lucille by the werewolves, her mother probably. Freya by us. Magic is the common ground.”
Margo nodded again. “It will be my honor, Prince. When do we start?”
“Anytime you are ready. Tomorrow or next can do.”
Margo nodded, for the third time. “Okay then. I will speak with your daughters after this meeting so that we can create a schedule we can work around with.”
“Thanks Margo for this…”
Margo waved Sheila’s thanks away, considering it unnecessary. She and Sheila were great friends.
“Alright then, since that is settled, what are we going to do about the jaguar?” Kane asked, looking at Dobah who shrugged his shoulders. His brother knew that he was thinking about his dream, the dream where the Jaguar man had been infected with the vampire’s sliver, and so had been a puppet.
“Well, it seems that they are in the play. We have to find out more about them currently. We also need to find out more about Amelia. Yodah, can you do that? I heard you are very skilled with research, with computers. Also, about Annabel. We still have to recheck all corners. We can’t afford to have loose ends.”
Yodah nodded.
Forget that Amelia had no last name he knew of or Annabel. He would have to find them, in any way possible.
“Good, that area is settled. About the jaguars, I can take care of that. I know the jaguars, one or two friends, from many years ago. I think I still know their dwelling.” Nathan concluded, palming his hands and then clasping them together.
“So, do any of us have any idea what the tattoos could mean? I have tried deciphering it, but to no avail.” Aiden started, when the room had accepted some beats of silence.
“Not at all. I have no idea what it is. The symbols are too otherworldly. I don’t think it’s from around here. It’s probably a god’s message.” Kane said, darting glances to everyone in the room. “Do we need to research that? I can try and see what I can get.”
“Thanks Kane.” Sheila enthused, before asking a question long forgotten by the ancient. “Before we had gotten a call from Emma, you had been about to tell us of your own input considering a secret attack or visit to Legardo. What was that?”
Kane shrugged his shoulders. “I just didn’t think it was a good idea. We still don’t have all that we need to know on Legardo.”
“What else do you need, Kane?” Nathan broke in, amusement starting to dance around the edges of his voice again. “We already know of his powers. We just need to get an exact location from Fayot, and the ways to get in there. Voila! We will be there. We mustn’t fight with him. It might be a friendly visit.”
Kane furrowed his eyebrows, unbelief coating his features. Nathan was fond of saying something, and doing something else. Yet, he seemed to always get away unscathed from his choices.
Kane said nothing, rather he inclined himself deeper into his seat, his mind racing with thoughts. He knew he was a careful meticulous ancient, maybe to a fault, but he had his reasons.
“Is there anyone that would take on Amelia’s master, and the fate of the vampires at the moment?” He asked, choosing to divert into another subject altogether.
“I think Yodah. Whilst conducting the research on Amelia, he can find out about this master. I don’t think we can find out about him outside of her. About the vampires, Nathan’s brother can take care of that with our hunters. Let’s just get to training, for the work ahead of us. Alpha Peter, you know that you have to scale up your defenses right?” Dobah finished his suggestion and then threw a question to Peter who nodded in reply.
“Sure, I will. After this meeting, I am having another meeting with the pack warriors. We will be discussing how to increase the protection around the borders of the pack, and how to start working with the Faugers pack. They might be a small pack, but they are strong. You could help us make them stronger…” Peter looked at the ancients as he dropped the last clause.
Nathan nodded in agreement. “Of course. After all, we are staying here for now, commuting between the pack and Aiden’s house. We will have to mount magic guards around the pack.”
He looked at Margo and Keturah. “Don’t worry, we won’t be needing your help this time around. So, you can rest up.”
Margo and Ketura chuckled. “We are good, old man. We are not complaining.”
Nathan huffed. It seems that they have taken up Emma’s habit of referring to them all as old men.
‘Well, aren’t you old men? Either by human standards, or ancient standards, you lot are old men. The only person saved from this equation is Yodah.’
Nathan ignored his lifemate, or Sheila thought he had, until he sent a provocative picture to her, that had her clenching her thighs tightly, gently, so as not to attract attention.
‘If you keep on with this, you won’t have that.’
Sheila held back a scoff. ‘We will see about that, old man.’
“Thank you everyone for your time. There will be refreshments ready for us all. Well, the ancients love fending for themselves. So.. but your quarters are ready.” Peter spoke.
He heard them chuckle, the ancients, but wasn’t deterred by it. He still didn’t understand, or was yet to see the entrancing thing about sucking the life force of another human. He wisely kept his thoughts to himself, knowing that his mate would bash him if she heard it.
He watched now as the ancients took up to their feet, probably heading to the arranged bungalow first. During the meeting, he had mindlinked some of his people to prepare the bungalow that was next to the mansion. The bungalow had five rooms, which had been used one time as a play house for his children and their friends. It has been left dormant for years now. Better to put it into good use.
Speaking of his children, when would his son be out of his room? He wondered, a frown on his face when he heard the steps coming toward the living room.
Well, speak of the devil. He thought, watching his son saunter into the room the next second, with a confidence he never knew that the latter had.
