Derek sighed.
He looked at his parents for the third time.
There was nothing. They were still in shock.
His eyes slipped to Agrip who had been standing all this while beside Ava, his daughter.
When had the man stand up from his seat?
The man was muttering to himself whilst staring at the group of seven.
He would have loved to mind-link the old man and ask him what he thought about the term ancients, but a lot of people were in the hall, and there was no way he could ask that, without it filtering into the thoughts of others.
Since he had no private mind path with Agrip, it was almost impossible to send him a message directed specifically to him, in a crowd full of his pack members, unless with intense concentration. He hasn’t heard of anyone being able to do it though.
Ancients.
Perhaps he could draw the meaning from the mythology book on his history’s teacher’s desk.
One time, the man had told him to get his class’s scripts on the table in his office.
He had been done collecting the scripts on Mr Daven’s table, when his eyes had settled on a thick brown book.
He had slowly opened it to the first page, his eyes scanning through the contents before he had heard approaching footsteps towards the office.
The old brown book had been about Ancients. Well, that was what the first page had been about. He still remembered.
He also remembered the vague explanation word by word too.
–The term “ancients” refers to individuals, civilizations, or objects that are from a distant past, often associated with a time period that predates the present. It is a term commonly used to describe historical or mythological figures, ancient societies, or ancient artifacts.
When referring to individuals, the ancients typically denote individuals who lived in ancient times, often before the modern era. These individuals are often revered for their wisdom, knowledge, or contributions to society. They are considered to have lived during a time when human civilization was in its early stages of development and are often associated with significant cultural, scientific, or philosophical advancements.
Ancient civilizations are societies that existed in the past, typically before the Middle Ages or the advent of written history. These civilizations are often characterized by their advanced cultural, social, and technological achievements. Examples of ancient civilizations include the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Mayans, and Chinese. These civilizations have left behind a rich legacy of architecture, art, literature, and cultural practices that continue to influence modern society.
The term “ancients” can also refer to ancient artifacts or objects that have survived from the past. These artifacts provide valuable insights into the material culture, technology, and beliefs of ancient civilizations. Ancient artifacts can range from tools and weapons to pottery, jewelry, and religious artifacts. They are often studied by archaeologists and historians to gain a deeper understanding of ancient societies and their way of life.
In a broader sense, the term “ancients” can also be used to describe ancient myths, legends, or stories that have been passed down through generations. These ancient tales often involve gods, heroes, and supernatural beings and are often used to convey moral or philosophical lessons. Ancient myths and legends provide a glimpse into the beliefs, values, and cultural practices of ancient civilizations.
All he could draw from that now, was Ancients were old beings.
But Freya was anything but old. He wondered, frustration ringing his thoughts.
Freya was beautiful and young, the same with the other six. They were anything but old. Thd teacher’s definition was wrong, or rather the text book.
Perhaps it had been written when the knowledge of ancients had been zapped away.
He could see from the looks on the faces of his pack members, that more than a ninety nine percent of them didn’t know what an ancient was, including his father’s beta.
From what he could see, only his parents and Agrip had knowledge of what ancients were.
Why? How was that possible?
It was Agrip who spoke first.
“Impossible. Your kind is extinct.” He said, shaking his head in unbelief.
One of the seven, the one who has been staring at Lucille like his possession, laughed out loudly. His laughter was rich, yet deadly.
Derek shuddered, a reaction which mirrored the reactions of the others in the room, except the group of nine now, since Sheila and Lucille were sitting with them.
Even Sheila, he noticed, hadn’t been surprised by the admission of Freya. It was like she had seen it coming. Like she had known.
But how?
Was her mate an ancient? If so, why was Freya both mage and ancient?
Mages were powerful enough, why the two? That would make her a terror? And where had Freya gotten her mage blood form? He wondered, light dawning in his eyes when he remembered Anthony’s power. Anything and Sheila were related.
Could it be that Sheila had mage blood in her? It could explain her strength and inhumane vigour, and of course, the fact that she was the best warrior in the pack.
Kane’s next words interrupted Derek’s thoughts.
Did you kill us off yourself? He asked, glaring at Agrip who met his glare without flinching. The humour was gone from his eyes too.
Tension brewed in the atmosphere.
Derek swallowed. They couldn’t have a fight in their hands now. He was aware that even though there were a large amount of his pack members here, these group was stronger.
Freya alone could…a mage and an ancient? It meant she could transform into anything like Yodah, and still perform magic, right?
Derek shook his head.
Wait if Freya was this specie of hybrid. What about Lucille and Emma?
“Please let’s all calm down. Agrip take a seat. You too…Mr…” Peter said, pausing as he waited for Kane to fill in the blank with his name.
But Kane kept quiet, still glaring at Agrip.
“Kane. His name is Kane” Lucille said, aware of the glance that her mother threw at her. The woman must be wondering when she had gotten the man’s name seeing they had been together since they had arrived.
“Agrip and Kane, please calm down.” Peter pleaded, his thoughts resonating with that of his son.
“Kane, you shouldn’t blame us. We have heard things, about your kind, but it had seemed like myth, a legend, extinct. We didn’t know you all still existed. That would explain why we had thought you all as vampires.” Peter mentioned.
“Forbid that!” Dobah spewed out a curse, before continuing in a language that was lost to the members of the pack. But they were sure the man was cursing the term vampire.
If they were ancients, what were vampires then?
