Emma has devoured three pancakes with syrup already, whilst watching and listening to the three girls talk and ramble about school and college. Eva was taking the lead in her class.
But why won’t she? Emma thought. She was an Alpha’s daughter. Her cognitive abilities should be higher than the rest in her class.
She wanted to ask her about the young boy that usually walked with her, but decided it was better to ask in secret, not wanting to embarrass the little girl who had confided in her.
All through their talks, they never mentioned Derek and the family. Just other things.
They didn’t want to set her mood off.
And she was appreciative of their thoughtfulness.
Currently, they were talking about the possibility of Freya and Yodah joining the Lakers university, and about Leo going back to Curtis’ pack.
“Emma, do you think the duo would attend our college?” Ava asked, her fingers confined in the middle of her laps. Emma had a feeling that the question was a sequel to an unknown main question. But she answered all the same.
“Yes, they had mentioned so.” Emma replied.
“Freya is Aiden’s lifemate, so they wouldn’t want to be apart from each other. Yodah is her best friend… so…” Emma dropped the statement, knowing that they would understand.
The grandfather’s clock in the sitting room chimed 11am, and Emma furrowed her eyebrows, looking at the clock. She was just seeing the time for the first time today. Just how long had she slept? The others were vampires, so, of course, they wouldn’t really be up, till late evening, except Freya, who was a half vampire, perhaps.
But Aiden had been coming to college to teach? Her mind reminded her, and she furrowed her eyebrows the more, causing her face to be cloaked in a frown-like state.
She had a lot of questions for Freya.
And what about these trio? Shouldn’t they be in school?
“What is the problem?” Maya asked, taking note of the frown that had metamorphosed on Emma’s face.
“Oh, nothing…” Emma replied, taking up another pancake from the plate. Maya had really learned from Melvina. The pancakes were sumptuous, especially mixed with the syrup. A glass of milk was by the side. Ava had fetched it from the refrigerator. It had made her wonder who had restocked the refrigerator. The last time, a dead animal had been there. Now, it was filled with vegetables, fruits and other things. Ava had told her so. So, how? Somehow, she felt one of the vampires, Julius perhaps, had restocked the refrigerator. She was grateful to them again, wondering how she could repay them back for not taking her blood even or killing her off.
Maya piqued her eyebrows hearing Emma’s reply, but she shook it off, happy that at least the redhead was eating and could smile. She had expected the worst, after the huge betrayal last night. But Emma’s rejection had really taken a toll on Derek. He hadn’t spoken to anyone since she had left with the vampires.
Maya wanted to tell Emma so, to perhaps convince her that something must have propelled Derek to act so stupidly, to convince her to cancel her rejection of her cousin, but she decidedly kept quiet, knowing that this was not the right time. This particular betrayal was more heavier than the one that had happened at Cassie’s party.
Then, Derek had been drugged, but this time, he was wide awake, in his thorough senses, and he had denied Emma, worse, had tainted her image.
She was a woman, and she knew the psychological consequences of her cousin’s act on Emma-seeing that she at one time had been unrecognized by Leo. Leo hadn’t even outrightly rejected her, and it had hurt that way. She didn’t want to think about what would happen if he did exactly what Derek had done to Emma. No. She couldn’t imagine it even. So, at this time, she chose to keep calm and let Derek fight his own love battle. This was beyond her.
“What about Julius..?” Ava asked, turning her face which was stained with a blush in the direction of the window at the western part of the room.
Emma smiled then.
This was the main question.
Ava’s first one had been an intro.
“He will be joining the college as a professor. Don’t worry. You both will be seeing each other, often and on.” She teased, laughing wildly when Maya released a bout of laughter. Eva just looked between them, her face, a board of confusion. She was not understanding the talks of the older girls. But their laughter made her smile, especially Emma’s. She only wished that Emma would come back to the house. That was one of the reasons why she had left school for today and had come here. She wanted to convince Emma to forgive her brother. Although she was angry with Derek, seeing him lost and mute, still didn’t sit well with her. She wanted them back together.
Ava blushed the more, unable to stop the smile of satisfaction that slithered across her lips. She couldn’t wait to see him.
Would he really be asleep till evening? Then she will have to wait here till he comes out. She didn’t want to go without seeing him. Anything else could wait.
“How long do they sleep?” Maya asked, still laughing.
“I’m not sure.” Emma replied tentatively, thinking about that.
Her eyes cut across to the passageway, when she heard sounds of footsteps approaching the sitting room.
It seemed Freya was awake. Yodah too, perhaps. The footsteps she was hearing belonged to more than one. She will know the next minute though. She thought, before deciding to ask the trio the question that had rung more than twice in her head.
“Why are you three not in school?” She asked, and the trio all shrugged, as if they had rehearsed that particular part.
“We came to see you.” They replied at the same time, and Emma piqued her right eyebrow at them.
Their coordinated response was full of suspicions.
