Emma watched with furrowed eyebrows, as Derek was crowned the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack. A golden crown with diamond fixtures was placed on his head.
But that wasn’t her problem. Her problem was that he was avoiding her gaze. What the hell was going on?
She turned aside to Maya and Freya. They also had the same look on their face. They weren’t sure what was happening.
She looked around and found Aiden.
She piqued her eyebrows at him, but he shrugged. He didn’t know either.
She shifted her gaze from him to Shane, who was standing between Clem and Leo.
Coincidentally, their eyes met. He was confused too.
Derek wasn’t smiling. He was cold.
Was this part of the drill? She thought, letting her eyes search for Anthony. He was his brother, so he must know something about what was happening.
Her fears heightened as she noticed that Anthony had been looking at her sullenly all this while, and that immediately their eyes had met, he had instantly averted his gaze.
Something was wrong. She could feel it right in her gut. She didn’t know what it could be, but it was making her so scared and teary.
“Emma, what is it? You will wound yourself!” Freya whispered worriedly, separating Emma’s hands from each other. It turned out that while the latter was thinking and worrying, the fingers on her right hand were digging deeply into the left counterpart. It would have drawn blood, if Freya hadn’t noticed it.
“Hey, Emma, are you okay?” Maya and Ava asked worriedly, watching as Emma’s got paler every passing second, her eyes not leaving Derek whom they all were waiting on for his speech.
“Something is wrong with him. Something is wrong.” Emma muttered intermittently in reply, not even conscious of the tear that had slipped off her eye.
She couldn’t access Derek’s mind again. He had built up a wall around it. He wouldn’t let her access it, and she didn’t want to force it. She didn’t want to hurt him. He was about to give a speech after all.
Maya, Ava and Freya looked at themselves, and then at Emma. she was muttering to herself, not bothering to wipe away the tears which were flowing unhindered from her eyes. They were stranded, for they didn’t know what was happening. They couldn’t feel the chest tightening feeling that engulfed Emma; but Prescott could.
Instantly, he tapped Freya on the arm, letting her know that he wanted to be with Emma at the moment.
Freya complied.
She nudged Emma with her hand, and when the latter stared at her blankly, she stretched out Prescott to her.
Emma hesitated, collecting Prescott from Freya.
At this moment, with the way she was feeling, she didn’t need a squirrel around her.
“Take me now.” Prescott ordered, allowing himself to feel Emma’s feelings. It was disheartening, and he wanted to comfort her, even though it was through magic.
Emma reluctantly took Prescott from Freya’s hands and hugged him to herself, sniffing and cleaning her tears when she felt a gentle breeze hover and encircle her. She knew it was from Prescott.
“You can feel what I am feeling?” She asked him through the mind path.
“Yes.” Prescott replied.
“Do you know why I am feeling this way?” She asked, hoping that he would have an answer to it, but unfortunately he didn’t.
“No, I don’t. But I think it has something to do with the vision Queen Zipfarah had seen concerning you…the part where you had been so heartbroken. Do you remember it? He asked her, and she nodded, gulping down nothing.
She remembered it now.
And if anything, it made her more scared.
Derek had already started talking. He was speaking on reforms and security now.
She couldn’t deny that she wanted to smile watching him speak like a true leader. He was looking so ethereal and beautiful.
Her man. Or was it? She wasn’t sure again, not with this particular sorrowful feeling that enveloped her; this feeling that was threatening to bring her to her knees and weep like she had lost a person, but for the presence and help of Prescott.
Prescott. She owed a lot to the squirrel.
She hoped that they would come out of all of this unscathed, so that she would thank him properly. For she felt somehow that the battle hadn’t even begun. She felt it deep in her guts. She knew it. There was war coming.
“And about my mate…the luna of the pack. I have found her…”
Derek was saying, and immediately the clique’s heads all shot up, including Emma. This was the part they had been waiting for.
The murmurings had also increased.
And again, Emma and the others wondered why.
Their questions were cleared the next minute, by Derek’s next cold words.
“A rumour had gone out, I don’t know who had spread such a stupid news, that my mate is a human, and that I had chosen her to be the luna of such a great pack.
Well, I am standing here to refute that. My mate is a full blooded wolf. You all know her. And about the human whom you had seen me with; she is just a fling, and she knows that. We had an arrangement, ever since the witch, Leonarya, had in some way possessed me with a beast. So, the beast usually made me sexually starved, and that had been the job of the human; to keep it sated. So, fear not. But you don’t have to worry about that. She will be leaving tonight too, since I have found my mate. The vampires you see here have given me a solution about the beast, and are working with us. We have an alliance. So, with that point made, I’m sure I am able to calm you all down, including those that had been planning to denounce the pack, for these reasons.
You don’t need to. The coast is clear.
And with that point made, I call my mate, Claire Gredon to join me on this platform.” Derek stated, a small smile on his face as he watched a glowing Claire climb up the stairs of the platform, and kiss him on the cheeks, amidst happy cheers and no murmurings.
Emma saw red then.
