There was dead silence in the room.
Emma sighed. Of course. No one knew the answers to their questions.
That was left to her to find.
And that was alright. She would do so, immediately the party ended.
For now, she should get back to Derek.
Turning around from the group ahead of her, she sized up the beast. It was still pounding on the walls of the red ball in all fury.
Doesn’t he get tired? She wondered, aware that Prescott was still right beside her.
“What should we do now? How do we get the necklace around his neck?” Prescott asked out aloud, knowing that none of the audience could hear him, apart from Freya.
Emma thought, and thought.
Nothing was forthcoming.
She stared hard at the red ball, as if hoping for the magic feature to breathe some ideas into her head, but there was none.
She whisked around sharply, feeling a presence behind her.
Freya.
What did she want?
She thought, piquing her eyebrows at Freya who had been approaching her steadily, but had paused at Emma’s sharp swivel.
The former thought that the latter had sharp reflexes. Another indicator that she wasn’t human. Could she be like her? Half of Aiden’s kind? That was very likely. If they were related, then, they must have the same capabilities.
“What do you want?” Emma asked Freya.
She still didn’t trust the girl, no reason though, she just didn’t like the fact that someone looked so much like her. Sisters? She wasn’t sure. The only sister she had known was Amelia.
Amelia?
Wait! She thought, bringing a halt to her spinning thoughts.
The girl that had answered her sister’s phone that day; her name was Freya.
Could it be tha…?
The probability of that information being true had her scowling her face the more.
“Do you know my sister?” She asked, unconcerned that the latter hadn’t answered her previous question.
“Yes, I know Amelia. I’m her roommate.” Freya replied, surprised when she saw Emma’s eyes change colors between green and pure golden.
What the heck! She thought, feeling Aiden’s surprise too.
Was the girl aware even? She wondered, noticing that Emma had clenched her fists.
She was angry. Freya knew then, reading the situation properly. The latter thought she was a spy.
“I’m not a spy.” She muttered quickly, raising up her two hands as if in surrender, not knowing what the girl was capable of.
“And why should I believe you?” Emma asked, unclenching her fists, and folding her arms across her chest. Her face, a board of slight anger. She thought that Freya was doing the same duty as Casper and Daniel had done. Spying. Getting the confidence of the ‘spied-on’ and selling them out at last.
“No reason. But I am not a spy.” Freya stated flatly, not in the mood to convince the other.
Emma gave her a run down look, before repeating her earlier question.
“About Derek. I think I have an idea.” She replied, stepping closer to Emma.
Deep within her, she was actually happy that she had a sister, but of course she won’t let it show to the other red head. That girl was a snot, and so rude.
“Let’s hear it.” Emma said, dropping off her angry facade, and replacing it with curiosity.
“Prescott… right?” Freya asked the squirrel.
Prescott nodded. She had gotten the right name and pronunciation.
“Could you disintegrate the red ball into cuffs, increasing their retaining capacity too. You can do it one at a time, cuffing his hands, then legs to the walls behind him. I’m sure the walls can hold. Then, the necklace, I can move it to his neck, without touching it. That way, you(Emma) wouldn’t be at risk in case he breaks one of the cuffs.” Freya stated, darting glances between Emma and Prescott.
She smiled, basking under praise as she heard Aiden’s approval in her head.
Such a darling. She thought.
“That’s a nice idea. I think I can disintegrate the ball into cuffs.” Prescott chirped happily, quickly looking at Emma to get her confirmation. But the latter was looking at Freya steadily.
What was wrong with her now? He thought.
He sighed in relief as he heard her next statement.
“Thank you. That’s a good idea, Freya.” She said, before turning away and gesturing at him to move on.
The others were at high alert; Especially Aiden and Yodah.
They had proposed to stop the beast from breaking away from the cuffs, whatever it took.
Prescott immediately got into his action.
With two hands moving animatedly like a Chinese tai-chi master, he disintegrated part of the ball, the side which covered the area of the beast’s left hand, quickly formed a cuff and pushed it around the beast’s hand, gluing it strongly to the wall.
The beast grunted, threatening destruction, especially on the squirrel, if he ever escaped from this cage.
Prescott, not in a bit fazed by the beast’s words, continued till he had had the beast’s limbs wide spread apart, like it was on an ‘X’ cross.
“Done.” He muttered, convinced that the beast won’t escape the magic bonds. This was the strongest cage he had ever done. It was draining too. He was tired and hungry already from expending the power. But that would have to wait.
He looked at Emma.
She understood. It was the next step of the process.
Quickly, she brought out the necklace, held it up to the air, smirking as she watched the beast’s eyes widen, and his efforts to break away from Prescott’s cage, more frantic.
She glanced at Freya, who nodded at her, before taking the necklace away from her hand, without touching it. Just with her eyes was she able to do this.
Immediately she had gotten the necklace in the angle she wanted or thought it fit to be, she waved her hand, and like a speed of light, the necklace zapped speedily, rounding and sticking around the neck of the beast whose groans after that shook the walls of the hall so much.
