Claire wanted a release. She needed a release. Her heart was burning. She needed to let out the anger which was like an inferno within her, or else she was scared that it would burn up her heart with the way she was feeling at the moment. Hearing from Derek that Alpha Peter already knew of Emma, worse, had approved their relationship, was grating so much on her nerves that she couldn’t wait to be out of Derek’s arms. She needed to scream out her anger, punch something or someone-anyone that was available, she needed to be alone, out of the company of others, including her mother.
From the corner of her eyes, she met the gaze of her mother who was whispering and giggling with Ava’s mother who according to the former had been her best friend since forever. She wondered if she should communicate the recent happening to her mother, but she decided against it, resolving to solve the situation on her own. So far, all her mother’s plans had fallen to naught. Earlier this night, when Ava’s mother had told them that Emma was back and was coming to the party with the her daughter, she had wanted, had suggested that she go to the house and stop her from coming, but the two women had refused, citing that it would be better that the human had come to the party and face a big disgrace as they had been sure that the Alpha wouldn’t allow a human Luna.
How wrong they were! She thought, refocusing on Derek. He was looking more relaxed. She noticed, unlike when he had approached her earlier, walking like he had been on needles. Was breaking the news to her that fulfilling to him? She wondered, gritting her teeth in anger. She wouldn’t allow it. She thought. She would do anything to have him, even if it meant bewitching him. Oh yes, she hadn’t told anyone about her magical powers, including her mother. For some reason, she had thought it better then to keep the huge secret to herself. Subtly, she had asked her father questions about his lineage and that of her mother, in a quest to find out where she had gotten the powers from. Not long, she had discovered that the powers had descended on her from her great grandmother, from her mother’s side. The ancestor had been a hybrid, a combination of werewolf and mage, being the product of an illicit affair between her father and a witch. Although it had caused problems in the communities then, the ancestor had been allowed to stay with her parents, for the witch had been reluctant to even take her in. It turned out that this ancestor’s blood for some unknown reason had occured in Claire’s genes, bypassing her grandmother and her mother.
Why not use it to my good, to secure the throne? She thought and pondered, so that even though she was in Derek’s arms, her mind was far away.
She had already solidified the first step, and that was being friends with the witch girl, standing close to Anthony. What was her name again? Esther. Yes. She would make friends with the witch, so that she could pay some visits to the latter’s home and have some access to magic books which she was sure that the latter had. She needed to start up her training, if she was to succeed.

Maya watched in anger as Zoe dragged a willful Leo to the dance floor. The Alpha had commissioned that couples should join in the dance floor with her cousin and Claire-and so, everyone had obeyed. She was sure that she was the only one without a couple here and it hurt so much.
Anthony was dancing with Esther.
Penny was dancing with some werewolf she was sure was from her own pack. That brought to her attention that she hadn’t seen her brother since the short meeting they had had in one of the smaller halls. Where had he gone to now?
Her eyes searched for him all through the mass of people in the hall, but she didn’t see him. Her eyes sought for her father then, knowing that if he was absent, then he was with her brother.
But she found him talking with her uncle. Where was her brother?
“Curtis…” She called, sighing in relief when he hummed in reply. They had to be alert for anything. They weren’t sure yet if the witches had called off the attack.
She didn’t want to lose her brother.
“Are you ok? Why are you not here? Someone is dancing with Penny.” She mentioned, adding the last part to tease him up.
His short laughter indicated that he had caught onto that. It made her smile.
“I have found her.” she heard him say after some beats, and furrowed her eyebrows, wondering what he was talking about.
“Found who?” she asked, wondering if any one she knew had lost when she had been out of the pack.
“My mate. I have found her, her scent though…i’m still trying to locate her.” he said, and happiness bubbled up within her causing her to break out in a wide sweet smile.
“Really, congratulations little bro. Hit me up when you see her.” she said, unable to keep her mouth still. It kept moving either in a smile, or a giggle, even as she heard him humm.
“Sure, I will. See you later.” he stated, and tuned off, leaving her chuckling intermittently, so happy that her brother would finally be free from their father’s controlling regime, especially relating to their mates. He wouldn’t still push Penny to Curtis when her brother brings his mate, or would he? She thought, shaking her head whilst smiling. She didn’t think so. Curtis wouldn’t let his mate go.
But this smile, as she ruminated on her brother’s good fortune, was drained out of its roots, when she saw Zoe rubbing her hands all over Leo’s chest as they danced slowly to the blues, and the idiot wasn’t doing anything.
That that…she gritted her teeth, feeling tears kicking up from the depth of her eyes. No, she wouldn’t cry. He wasn’t worth her tears. To hell with him!
