Callie woke up the next day with a splitting headache.
She opened her phone to find a bunch of missed calls and messages. Frowning, she saw a news push notification featuring a photo of her and Jamir. They were pulling at each other on the street, and the picture looked very suggestive.
She almost choked. The reporter wrote it ambiguously, saying they were so passionate that they couldn’t let go of each other on the street.
She was arguing with him! How could the reporters’ eyes be so bad now?
Callie felt a wave of dizziness. Without even looking at the messages, she knew what they were about.
In the afternoon, Mollie sat in her sunny office, laughing as she scrolled through her phone. “The photos are pretty good. You two looked intimate when pulling at each other.”
Callie didn’t want to move. “I’m not a celebrity, why are there always paparazzi following me?”
“Isn’t it possible they came for Jamir? The Quinn Group’s executive coming to Ylosea to invest is big news. He’ll probably be on TV in a couple of days, with countless people watching.”
Mollie turned off her phone. “They probably didn’t expect to turn financial news into gossip. It’s a roundabout way of achieving their goal.”
Callie was in a dilemma.
“Actually, I’m more curious about Nelson’s reaction.”
Instantly, her headache worsened. The person Nelson hated most was Jamir. If he found out about this, she didn’t know how he would deal with her.
Just then, Eliza knocked on the office door. “Callie, you have a package.”
She took it and opened it, finding a peach blossom inside.
“It’s almost autumn now, where did this peach blossom come from?” Mollie was surprised.
Callie frowned, looked at the sender’s number on the package, and immediately took out her phone to call. It rang three times before being answered.
Before she could speak, a man’s voice came through. “Guess where I am?”
She didn’t speak, so he continued. “The Oconnor Group’s conference room.”
“Nelson is about to see me. Want to listen in on the meeting?”
Callie wanted to hang up immediately but reasoned against it and rubbed her temples instead.
There was silence for a minute before steady footsteps could be heard. Nelson’s voice was very distinctive, deep and slightly hoarse. “Jamir.”
“Mr. Oconnor, we meet again.”
Nelson didn’t respond to his words and sat down directly. The two teams began discussing cooperation details. It seemed the cooperation was already decided; otherwise, they wouldn’t be sitting down.
At the closing stage, Jamir took the initiative to ask, “Mr. Oconnor, aren’t you curious why I chose this project to invest in?”
Nelson’s dark eyes stared at him and he chuckled lightly. “You want a piece of Ylosea.”
Jamir chuckled. “Actually, whether this project succeeds or not doesn’t benefit the Quinn Group much. I came here for someone. Oh, you know her too. Last time in this conference room, she sat beside you and helped me out.”
A blatant provocation.
Callie listened on the other end of the phone, feeling nervous for Jamir.
A trace of ferocity flashed in Nelson’s eyes but quickly disappeared. “Yes, that’s why I don’t have her by my side anymore.”
He leaned back and looked at Jamir with a smile. “Have you heard the story of the farmer and the snake?”
Jamir raised an eyebrow. “It’s just a venomous snake. I can handle it.”
Nelson nonchalantly tapped his pen on the table. “I remind you, Jamir, not to do anything you’re not confident about. If you’re going to do it, do it thoroughly; otherwise, it’s easy for someone else to take over.”
