Kerry was taken aback, then smiled faintly and said, “Some things are beyond our control.”
His words were ambiguous, but Ayan didn’t have the interest or curiosity to inquire further. He simply asked casually, “You’re engaged to Angel, and Mr. Tillery is coming to Hance City, so Daisy should be coming back too, right?”
Daisy’s company had been emptied out, but this information hadn’t leaked yet. Ayan had only informed Kerry about it, and what Kerry decided to do about it was his own business.
After Ayan asked his question, Kerry fell into a brief silence. His expression became slightly grave.
He sighed and his mood seemed off. His voice was low as he said, “Probably. Actually, I’m not really willing to get engaged. Neither Angel nor I like each other, especially Angel. She has loved someone for many years, but the reality doesn’t allow her to find her true love. She’s very rational when it comes to this aspect.”
Angel had someone she deeply loved for many years, but because of their social statuses, they couldn’t be together. They understood each other well and wouldn’t create any trouble for one another. Their love was enough for them to consider each other’s feelings.
As for why Mr. Tillery wanted Kerry to get engaged to Angel, neither Angel nor Kerry were quite clear on that.
Angel once said, “Maybe he wants me to keep Daisy in check.”
Among Tillery’s daughters, Angel and Daisy were the most outstanding. They were almost on par with each other. If one were to calculate meticulously, Angel might even have the upper hand.
Kerry casually mentioned these words from Angel to Ayan and smiled as he looked at him. “Mr. Simpson, based on your understanding of Mr. Tillery, do you think he really wants to use Angel to control Daisy?”
Ayan smiled lightly and replied, “It’s possible. After all, Mr. Tillery has always been good at scheming.”
Mr. Tillery was known for using schemes to solidify his position in this circle. Along the way, he had schemed against numerous people. Because Tillery’s Corporation was powerful enough, those who had been schemed against by Mr. Tillery lacked the ability and means to fight back.
This was precisely why Mr. Tillery was always scheming against others. If he ever stopped his machinations, he would undoubtedly face a wave of retaliation. The future would be bleak for him, filled with threats and challenges that could easily topple his carefully constructed empire.
Mr. Tillery himself knew this, as did Tillery’s Corporation. His children understood it even better. So everything was done according to his arrangements in order to secure their own interests.
Angel was someone who prioritized her interests above all else because she knew she couldn’t choose her own fate due to her background and circumstances.
Kerry sighed heavily and said, “Working in Hance City during this period feels like everything is slowing down. These days are quite enjoyable, but it’s also easy for people to become immersed in them. That’s not good for me because once I become immersed in it, things could turn into a mess.”
Kerry had been by Mr. Tillery’s side for many years and had been bribed by many people. However, he had always refused and only wanted to focus on doing his job well. He adopted an attitude of minimal involvement in anything outside of work.
So far, Kerry could still be considered a man with a clear conscience, who hadn’t gotten involved in anything shady.
Mr. Tillery had hinted at him multiple times, but Kerry always pretended not to understand.
Such people were rare in today’s society where temptation for personal gain was strong.
Kerry chatted with Ayan for a long time. Because Ayan had helped him before and there were some other matters as well, he trusted Ayan quite a bit and felt that anything he said wouldn’t easily be leaked.
Because of this trust, their conversation seemed endless.
Kerry spoke a lot, and in the end, Ayan asked him, “If you were asked to leave Tillery’s Corporation now, could you do it?”
Kerry thought seriously for a moment and then shook his head lightly. “I probably couldn’t.”
“If you can’t leave, then you can only continue maintaining your current status. Actually, your current situation is pretty good. It’s just that sticking with it till the end seems a bit difficult,” Ayan stated calmly.
Kerry nodded and said with resignation, “It is difficult indeed. I really enjoy my days in Hance City. I’ve even thought that if the project could be delayed a bit longer, it might be even better.”
Ayan chuckled at this remark.
Then he said, “This project will last at least another year or more. A year is quite a long time. Many things can happen during that period. Who knows? Maybe after a year or so, you’ll be married and have children.”
Kerry smiled helplessly and stopped saying anything more.
At that moment, Angel returned as well. The two of them left Simpson Group together and headed to the project team.
Ayan sat in his office without continuing his work. Instead, he checked the time-it was already past three in the afternoon.
At this point in time, Kian had already arrived safely in Flento City.
The only thing that disappointed Ayan was that Camille hadn’t contacted him since she left on the morning flight to Flento City.
This made him very displeased. His face turned extremely gloomy.
But since she wasn’t taking the initiative to contact him, he would take the initiative instead.
Ayan dialed Camille’s number.
Camille didn’t answer the call right away.
He waited quietly, but Camille still didn’t pick up. This led him to have some wild thoughts.
He squinted his eyes slightly. His expression grew even more indifferent. Then he called Kian.
Unlike Camille, Kian answered the call immediately. “Mr. Simpson, I just landed. I’ve already asked Yessica for the hotel where Madam is staying. I’m heading straight there now.”
Ayan made an affirmative sound and calmly said, “The first thing you do when you get to the hotel is find out what she’s up to.”
Kian paused briefly before replying, “Understood. I’ll do that right away.”
He responded concisely but had many speculations brewing inside him-what was going on?
Was it because his boss couldn’t bear parting with his wife that his boss arranged for him to come over and monitor her every move?
Or was his boss worried that his wife might contact the Bill family?
Kian Kian felt a surge of curiosity bubbling within him, but he didn’t dare voice his questions. Just last night, his boss called, probing for details about Madam’s business trip, and Kian had assumed Ayan was simply skeptical about her traveling to Flento City. This morning, after sending his wife off, his boss sent him to Flento City to investigate Madam’s whereabouts…
