Chapter Sixty-Two

Book:Delta's Rejected Daughter Published:2025-2-19

Now, we get to reintroduce ourselves to Beta Mason. This time as family members and as royalty. Just wait until he finds out. He will be surprised. I’m sitting here looking at King Friedrich and I’m wondering when he’s going to say something or if Sophia is going to say something first.
Sitting in awkward silence is horrible. Sophia and Mason doesn’t notice a thing because they are looking at each other. They only see each other.
“What’s going on in here? I thought you all were going to watch football. Who is this?” questioned Queen Philipa.
“Momma, this is Mason. He is my mate,” gushed Sophia.
“Oh, my baby girl. I’m so happy for you,” exclaimed Queen Philipa as she wrapped her daughter up in a hug. “I’m her mother, Queen Philipa. Welcome to the family Mason. What pack do you belong to?”
“Qu … Queen?” stuttered Beta Mason.
“Yes, didn’t they tell you?” inquired Queen Philipa.
“No, my love. We didn’t get a chance to introduce ourselves like that yet. Yes, Beta Mason, I am her father, Alpha King Friedrich and her mother is the Alpha Queen of Europe. Our daughter Princess Sophia is my Heir and will become the first Alpha Queen in forty years in five months. Duke Vladimir is her and Melanie’s uncle. Delta Melanie is her cousin,” King Friedrich explained to a very pale-looking Beta Mason.
“Welcome to the family Prince Mason,” I giggled as I extended my hand to him. “I can’t get up. I’m supposed to be on bed rest but I am allowed to be on the couch if I don’t get up. We’ll explain everything to you in a few minutes. A lot has happened in the last four days. We’ve been very busy,” I shared as we all welcomed Prince Mason into the family.
“Mason, we will talk later just you and I about your future with my daughter. You need to get caught up on recent events. So, listen carefully and ask questions if you have them. Understand?” commanded King Friedrich.
“Yes Alpha King,” replied Beta Mason.
I started explaining what all happened starting with the Delta Ceremony. It all started there. As we continued to explain everything, Beta Mason would ask a question or two for clarification’s sake. He wanted to make sure he didn’t miss anything. He knew all about Prince Michael’s penchant for being a male chauvinist. He didn’t care for his attitude either.
He understood the need to avoid a war between the two countries. Then we told him about the Conference Room assault, Beta Mason was livid. He had the same reaction as everyone else, which thrilled Uncle Vladimir. He instantly liked Mason.
Once Mason was caught up on all of the events, he let out a breath. He looked at everyone and said, “Wow. You weren’t kidding when you said a lot has happened in the last four days. Delta Melanie, how are you feeling? I am so, so sorry that you lost one of your babies,” Beta Mason sadly said to me.
“First of all, when it’s just family, call me Melanie or Mellie since we’re family now. Second, I’m doing okay. I’m not doing fantastic but I’m hanging in there. Lastly, can we just relax today? That would be freaking fantastic. My love, can you see if we have any chocolate ice cream in the freezer for me? I could really use some right now. Please,” I cooed to Anthony after I answered Beta Mason.
Beta Mason chuckled at me asking for ice cream, “You still like chocolate ice cream, huh?”
“Like I’m ever going to hate it,” I said sarcastically. “Don’t hate just because you didn’t ask for it first.”
Everyone laughed at me. By now, my family knows when I want chocolate ice cream I’m either frustrated, overwhelmed, or aggravated.
“What’s bothering you, Mellie?” Dad asked me softly.
“I keep thinking I missed something about Prince Michael’s escape. It’s nagging me in the back of my mind. It’ll come to me, but it’s frustrating,” I explained to him.
They all just shook their heads and didn’t say a word.
“Melanie, do you mind if Mason and I use your office to get to know each other before Dad gives him the third degree?” Sophia asked me.
“No, go right ahead. I’m glad you got a second chance mate like me, Soph. I really am,” I said as I hugged her tightly.
“Thanks, Mellie,” Sophia cooed as she released my hug.
Sophia and Mason disappeared into my office as Anthony appeared with a pint of Chocolate ice cream, a spoon, and two bottles of water. It was time to start watching football. Dallas was playing Washington or we could watch the Seahawks at the Bills. Dad said he would rather see the latter so we did.
I can’t believe I fell asleep watching football. How do you fall asleep watching a contact sport like football especially with someone as loud as my Dad is yelling at the players and Refs on TV? I woke up to a totally different game than the Seahawks and Bills. It took me a moment to realize who was playing, it was the Falcons at the Raiders. Really?
Mom insisted that I eat since I missed lunch. I looked for my ice cream only to be told it was put back into the freezer. I had only eaten four bites of it when I put it down to drink water and according to my Dad, fell asleep soon thereafter. Okay, whatever.
Mom says not to worry. You sleep a lot when you’re pregnant. Yeah okay. Are you sure my water or my ice cream wasn’t spiked? Something sounds fishy to me.
That’s when it hit me. Why did the guards put up so little of a fight? Were they drugged? I knew I would figure it out.
“Hey, Dad, the guards on the transport-in the report, t it says it looked like they didn’t put up much of a fight. Did they take blood samples from the deceased guards to see if they were drugged?” I asked him.
“You know, I’m not sure. That’s a very good question. Let me ask Alpha Richard for you since you know you aren’t supposed to be ‘working’ today,” Dad mused out loud.
Dad linked the Alpha to the question and he said he would inquire about it and get back to us with an answer later. The Alpha got back to us an hour and a half later. No blood samples were drawn. All deceased guards have been buried or cremated. So, it’s a dead end. Also, Maurice Perkins has gone missing. No one can find him anywhere. Freakin’ fantastic.
At this point, what can I do? I simply close my eyes in order to refocus my brain. Where do we go from here? Elder Lee was his boss-does he have a way to get a hold of him in case of emergencies? Elder Lee is the one person who could hold all the answers at this point in time or does he?
Where do we go from here?
