Alpha Richard along with my Dad met me outside the exam room to explain what happened to Anthony.
“Melanie, I need you to remain calm. What I am about to tell you is a little upsetting. Anthony saved your Dad’s life by tackling a rogue and taking a knife to the left shoulder. The knife was silver. He is suffering from silver poisoning right now. He’s very weak right now, but he will recover,” explained Alpha Richard.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Doyle Kessler was really trying to kill my father any way possible. He had rogues come to our borders with silver knives. Their purpose-to stab and kill my father. Mark my words-You are a Dead Man Walking Doyle Kessler.
“Melanie, Mellie? Are you okay? Talk to me. How can I help you?” pleaded my Dad as he held me and tried to soothe me.
I was shaking and had tears trickling down my cheeks. I was furious at the lengths that Doyle Kessler was going to in order to reach my father.
“I’m … so, so sorry this … happened Dad, Mark. My. Words. Doyle. Kessler. Is. A. Dead. Man. Walking. He will pay dearly for everything he has done against our family and pack. May I go in and see Anthony?” I sniffled as I released myself from the hug my Dad had me in.
“You can go in when you’re ready. We just needed to prepare you for what you were going to see when you did. His skin looks very pale and waxy from the silver poisoning. Dr. Adams was able to remove all remaining silver particles from his body. He should make a full recovery within a few days. Right now, he’s unconscious due to the poisoning. Dr. Adams isn’t sure when he’ll wake up,” assured Alpha Richard.
“Thank you, Alpha for explaining that to me,” I replied shakily to him. I know that Anthony has his walls up for me not to feel this pain. I know he has to be in a lot of pain. I know he is shielding it from me because of the babies.
Did I mention I love my mate?
I took a deep breath and let it out slowly before I opened the door to enter his room. Dr. Adams was just about to walk out when I entered.
“Ah, Delta Melanie. Delta Anthony is stable at the moment. We will be moving him to another room shortly. We will keep him overnight while we continue to flush the silver out of his bloodstream. We want to make sure all of it is out before we release him. Do you have any questions for me?” inquired Dr. Adams as he hesitated by Anthony’s bed.
“No, Dr. Adams I don’t. Thank you for taking good care of him,” I replied as I assessed my mates condition. My right hand caressed his cheek while my left hand held his right hand.
Anthony looked so pale, so fragile. I just wanted to crawl into bed with him and hold him. So, I did just that. I gently moved him over a little so I could get into bed with him. I crawled in bed next to Anthony and I put my head on his right shoulder. I made sure that I didn’t obstruct his IV line that was flushing the silver out of his bloodstream.
‘I love you, Anthony. I am so glad you are my Second Chance Mate. Thank you for saving Dad’s life today. Please wake up so I can tell you so … I just want to be able to look into your gorgeous blue eyes again. I can’t wait to hold you in my arms again. I love you,’ I purred as I held him as close as I could.
I just needed to hold my mate. I needed to let the mate bond help heal him. I stayed with him until I was needed for the meeting between Alpha Kings Matthew and Friedrich. They pushed that meeting back until after lunch so I could stay with Anthony a little while longer.
Dad made sure his Grandparents were able to come and stay with him while I was in the meeting with the Alpha Kings. I didn’t want Anthony to be left unattended.
It pained me to leave Anthony. He looked so vulnerable in his unconscious state. His Grandma told me she would let me know if he woke up and if he needed anything. I reluctantly left his bedside and went back to the pack house to attend the meeting.
Entering the pack house, I ran into Prince Michael. He and Princess Wendy were leaving the dining room when I saw them. The look of disgust and disdain on Prince Michael’s face was evident. Anderson was quick to stand before me to send a message to Prince Michael that he would have to go through him first. This startled Prince Michael who flinched at the sudden movement of Anderson. He was not expecting it.
Prince Michael didn’t say anything nor did he do anything further. He simply walked on by without doing anything else. The message was quite clear-Do not mess with our Delta.
I went into the dining room to see if the Alpha Kings were there. I picked up a sandwich to eat for lunch along with a bowl of fruit and a bottle of water. I sat down to eat my lunch when Dad joined me to tell me where the meeting was going to take place.
Anderson had already told him and Alpha Richard what Prince Michael did when we walked into the pack house. Neither of them liked what he did but they couldn’t do anything about it. We just had to be careful with how we handled ourselves around him-in other words, we had to tread lightly around Prince Michael.
The meeting with the Alpha Kings would be upstairs in the Conference Room in a few minutes. They were allowing me a chance to eat something since I was at the pack hospital with Anthony.
I sighed deeply and let it out slowly. I looked at my Dad and couldn’t believe that I could have lost him this morning. I remained seated for a few more minutes. I allowed Anderson and Noah a chance to finish eating before I told them I was ready to go meet with the Alpha Kings.
