“Congratulations Melanie. I hear you barely broke a sweat in your match as did Melissa in hers,” exclaimed Alpha Richard as we approached.
“Yes Alpha, that is correct. I had to remind her that not all she-wolves have been given the opportunity she has been,” my father said as we came to a stop.
“That’s right Melanie. You have to remember that the mindset is changing and it will take time. You are indeed fortunate that you have been allowed to train right along with the males without restrictions,” reminded Alpha Richard.
“I know Alpha. It just makes me angry that we have she-wolves who are not capable of defending themselves should trouble arise. Not everyone has security details. I can defend myself and I still have a security detail because of my rank. But most she-wolves don’t. Yet, they are untrained and incapable of fending off an attack if need be,” I fumed at no one in particular.
“Baby, like Alpha Richard said, times are changing. At Crescent Moon, we have recently started training our she-wolves like our males. It is a work in progress. I know we are not perfect but give us males some time to make things right,” soothed Anthony as he kept his arm around my waist.
“I know, but still …” I huffed in frustration. “That’s another reason why I didn’t do much to the she-wolf I was fighting. I didn’t want to hurt her unnecessarily. She hasn’t been properly taught how to defend herself. I felt bad for having to go up against her,” I admitted in frustration. “Alpha, can we talk to the Frost pack Alpha about having one or two of their she-wolves come for extensive training so they can properly train their she-wolves?”
“I have already put it out there for the other Alphas if they want to have their she-wolves properly trained, they can come to our pack for training under our tutelage. So far, I have had twenty-five takers from this event alone,” announced Alpha Richard.
‘Was the Frost Pack one of them?’ I asked in our pack link.
‘Yes, it was. The pack Alpha was most thankful that you didn’t unnecessarily hurt his she-wolf when you could have to prove a point. He was impressed with you Melanie,’ explained Alpha Richard.
‘I knew she only had a working knowledge of self-defense. When she changed into her wolf, it was no better. I didn’t want to hurt her,’ I explained to him.
‘I know. You are not like others who would have just to prove how much better you are. There were two others who did this morning before the Referee called their matches. It’s a shame they would do that. You get the honor of fighting her tomorrow morning,’ Alpha Richard declared in our link.
‘Hmm, sounds promising. I wonder how good she truly is. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow morning,’ I exclaimed with a smile to everyone.
“Hey Kyle, I heard you get the honor of fighting my mate this afternoon. Don’t go easy on him just because he’s my mate. I want to see you go all out,” I commanded as I giggled as Anthony kissed my neck at my comment.
“Oh, you can count on it. I have to see what he’s got if he’s coming to our pack. I need to know if he can truly fight,” taunted Kyle to Anthony.
“Oh, I can fight, believe you me. You just worry about yourself. I’m not going to go easy on you either. I didn’t become the Lead Trainer at my pack for nothing you know. I earned it!” boasted Anthony to everyone standing there.
“I can’t wait to see you in action,” I cheered as I looked him in the eyes.
“All right, new plan. Everyone is to report to their rings now. They are moving up your fights. Everyone to your rings now,” commanded Alpha Richard.
“Yes, Alpha,” we chorused.
We all turned around and made our way back to the rings for the next round of fights. The male fights were a lot more interesting than the she-wolves fights. Joshua was up in one of the first rounds of fighting. I didn’t see him fight because I was with Kyle at his ring waiting for his match to begin.
I must say, I was impressed with the level of skill on display. I was like a kid in a candy store. I watched the matches with fascination. I took in every move and hit. I could have been a commentator for the match.
Round 1 for the males took longer and was more brutal. The first match lasted about 20 minutes. Then, it was Kyle and Anthony’s turn to fight. I was both elated and nervous. I knew Kyle’s level of fighting, but I didn’t know a thing about Anthony’s.
When the Referee commanded, ‘FIGHT,’ Kyle and Anthony began to circle each other and size each other up. Then, Kyle and Anthony lunged at each other at the same time. They each went for a series of blows-Kyle went for a right-left combination whereas Anthony went for a midsection and uppercut combination. Neither one really landed their shots but both were thrown off balance from each other’s blows.
Kyle went to give Anthony a roundhouse kick, which Anthony deflected. They both put on an impressive show of MMA skills. They were evenly matched in human form.
Anthony kicked Kyle in the midsection and dropped his elbow at the base of his neck. Kyle shifted into his honey-colored wolf. Anthony didn’t waste any time, he shifted into his cinnamon-colored wolf as well.
Their wolves went at each other quickly. Just like their fighting skills, their wolves were evenly matched as well. The battle was getting brutal for both of them. Kyle had lunged for Anthony but only managed to get him on his right flank. Anthony howled with pain. Anthony was able to latch onto Kyle’s shoulder to get him to release his flank. Since neither one was letting go, the Referee had to step in and separate the two of them.
Then, he allowed them to resume the fight. Both of them were worn out and hobbling a little. As a last-ditch effort, Kyle lunged at Anthony. Anthony was able to sidestep his wolf and kick his wolf under his muzzle temporarily disorienting him so Anthony could get his jaws wrapped around Kyle’s neck. Kyle started whimpering but soon stopped as a sign of submission.
Anthony won his match against Kyle. Howls and cheers rose up from the audience after they shifted back to their human form. They were given shorts to put on so they could leave the ring.
“You did good, both of you. Neither one of you wanted to lose. Congratulations Anthony,” I cheered as they both approached us. “You both need medical attention. Come on, let’s go to the medical tent so you can be treated,” I commanded.
“So bossy, I like it,” cooed Anthony. “Maybe afterward, I can take you to get some lunch?” he inquired with a wolfish grin.
“We’ll see. Let’s see what’s in store for us this afternoon. They seem to be moving things up. I think my second round is this afternoon, so I can’t go too far away. Let’s just focus on you two at the moment. Hmm?” I beamed as I took his hand and led the way to the medical tent.
“Yes ma’am. You do need to eat lunch,” he reminded me as we walked in to get his cuts and bruises tended to.
“I know, but this has to happen first. Then, lunch,” I reminded him.
It didn’t take long for Kyle and Anthony to be treated. Werewolf healing capabilities are awesome. Their injuries were already healing and should be healed before they go to bed tonight.
Alpha Richard opened our pack link and told us to go get some lunch. Melissa and I would be fighting our second round around 3 o’clock in the afternoon. He wanted us ready for that. We told him we would be ready for our second round.
Anderson and Noah made sure we were not disturbed for lunch. Anthony and I were allowed to eat in peace and quiet. I was finally able to learn more about my second chance mate.
Anthony lost his parents when he was 11 years old. His grandparents raised him after a rogue attack. He doesn’t have any siblings. He wants to have pups, lots of them. He loves anything to do with nature and protecting the pack which is right up my alley. I told him about my ‘gift’ for the pack when I take the oath of Delta. He thought it was a great project. He said he would like to help out with that.
Also, he had heard of our security group before and had wanted to apply to work for us, but never got around to actually doing it. Surprise! You are mated to someone who can bring you on board without going through the hiring process. He could probably run the Command Center for the pack.
Things are definitely looking up for me. I have a mate who is very compatible with me. He’s hot as hell. How did I get so lucky???
