Getting ready for a tournament is easy, I continue to work with Melissa every morning and I get extra workouts with Anderson and Noah in the evenings if I want them. Melissa and I continue to hone our techniques every morning in order to prepare. We’re not sure what to expect at the tournament, but we want to make Alpha Richard proud of us.
A week before the tournament, I got an email from Beta Mason of the Lakewood Pack. He was asking how I was doing and if I was going to be at the tournament. He also wanted to give me a heads-up about Clark. It seems that a month after we left, Clark’s chosen mate, Nicole, found her fated mate. She decided to reject Clark and mate with her fated mate. He is crushed and is looking to ‘get back’ with me since I am his fated mate.
I couldn’t believe it. He rejected me without a second thought and here his ‘chosen’ mate dropped him like a hot potato the moment she met her fated mate. Huh. What do they say about Kharma? Wow. I forwarded the email to Alpha Richard and my Dad after I warned them that I was sending it to them. They needed the heads-up.
My Dad was furious. He said that Clark wasn’t going to get within 50 feet of me at the tournament. I had to remind Dad that he wasn’t scheduled to go to the tournament. His reply was, ‘We’ll see about that.’ That’s also when he told Anderson and Noah that he was adding two more to my detail for the tournament to make sure no one messed with me. Fan-freaking-tastic.
What did I ever do to deserve all this drama in my life? Huh? All I ever wanted to do was meet my fated mate, mate, have pups, and live happily ever after. That was my problem-this is real life, not some freaking fairy tale.
The Command Center is humming right along. At least that is going according to schedule. I am remaining focused on work at the moment and trying not to think about anything else. I did reply back to Beta Mason thanking him for the ‘heads up’ about Clark.
I didn’t give him any information like he asked for. I didn’t feel it necessary to inform him that I was going to be present-it was none of his business and I didn’t want him to tell Clark I was going to be there. I know-call me a Bitch-sorry. Beta Mason doesn’t deserve that, but Clark just leaves a sour taste in my mouth and soul right now.
______________
We packed up and headed to the Royal Pack-better known as The Clearwater Pack for the tournament. We had extra people with us since we received our heads-up about Clark Downey.
We were told to travel to the Conference Resort Area for the Tournament. I’ve never been to that area; I’ve only seen pictures so I was curious as to what it really looked like. I was told it had undergone renovation two years ago to accommodate a tournament such as this of all the packs. Hmm, interesting.
Our vehicles pulled up to the Conference Resort Area under the pavilion. When they opened our doors for us, they told us to stand with our arms out and spread our legs so we could be searched. Okay. I guess they are not taking any chances since we are at the Royal Pack. Our security detail had to log their weapons with Security. They gathered our bags and we were directed to where we were checking in.
Alpha Richard walked confidently into the lobby to check us all in. Once he was done, we went to our rooms and settled in until we were called upon to make our first appearance, which was supposed to be dinner. I on the other hand had been called upon earlier. The Alpha King required my presence, NOW!
I was escorted to his office along with my security detail. They knocked on the door and waited for the official ‘come in’ before opening the door for me. They closed the door behind me and waited for me outside.
“Alpha King Matthew, you wanted to see me?” I declared as I walked into his office full of wolves.
“Yes Melanie, I did. It’s good to see you again. How are you doing today?” inquired Alpha King Matthew to me.
“I’m doing well, thank you for asking. And you? You look well,” I replied as I stood in front of his desk.
“Yes, I am doing well. I heard that you have been doing really well lately due to a special project you are heading. I’m glad that you are no longer feeling the effects of ‘the snap’ like you were,” commented Alpha King Matthew to me to gauge my response.
“Yes, Alpha King. I am working on a special project for my pack as my gift for the pack when I become Delta in two weeks,” I explained.
“I asked you here for two reasons. First to address the Clark situation and Second to an email I received. I heard that Clark’s chosen mate met her fated mate and rejected him. Now, he’s looking to ‘get back’ with you. I want to let you know that I support your decision-whatever it is. Whether or not you accept him back or not, it is entirely up to you,” explained Alpha King Matthew to me.
“Thank you very much for saying that Alpha King. I’m not really sure what I’m going to do. My father is furious as is my Alpha because of how he rejected me in the first place. The plan right now is to ignore him and/or keep him away from me, thus the extra security detail for me,” I explained to the Alpha King.
“Noted. Okay, Secondly, I received this email this morning from a neighboring pack of the government surveillance job, the Cold Springs Pack. Alpha Trevor reported that some of the ‘humans’ assigned as overwatch have strayed into his territory when they have no cause to be there. Do we know why they are wandering into their territory?” questioned Alpha King Matthew.
“I’m not sure why they would have cause to do so since they are supposed to be keeping watch on the neighborhood and to ensure the ‘family’ is kept safe. Why don’t we call Colonel Thompson and find out what is going on?” I asked Alpha King Matthew.
“Yes, why don’t we? It should be an interesting conversation,” declared Alpha King Matthew.
