The man stopping him wasn’t anyone else-it was Kayden. Kayden had stepped in to stop Nick’s actions.
Luther, seeing this, rolled his eyes dismissively and ignored Nick entirely. Turning to Kayden, he sneered, “Now I see what kind of people surround you. If you’re surrounded by this sort of trash, why would you ever dream of reaching for someone like Georgia? You should find someone like this village girl to marry. Being with Georgia is only going to ruin her future and her hopes.”
“You peasants will never understand what it feels like to spend $10, 000 on a single meal, or $8, 800 for a single night in a hotel. That’s the kind of life Georgia deserves, not being stuck with a broke loser like you. Understand?”
“Are you done talking?” Kayden asked coldly as he took the invitation card from him. He had no intention of wasting time on Luther, whom he viewed as an idiot. Engaging with him any longer would be an insult to his own intelligence.
“I’m not finished yet,” Luther said, his tone sharp. “Last time, you humiliated me on stage, and I’ve never been so insulted in my life. But don’t worry, I won’t do anything to you before the engagement. However, you better prepare yourself. I won’t let this go so easily.”
Vengeful to the core-that was the real Luther.
“I hope you’ll be there for our engagement,” Luther added with a fake, insincere smile before turning to leave.
“Stop,” Kayden called out.
Luther froze mid-step and turned back, his voice mocking. “What? Are you jealous? Thinking of hitting me?”
Kayden approached him slowly and, without a word, delivered a sharp slap across Luther’s face.
Smack! The slap rang out loudly.
“This is to teach you some humility,” Kayden said flatly.
The force of the slap sent Luther sprawling to the ground, landing in an undignified heap. He looked utterly pathetic.
“You! How dare you slap me?” Luther roared, clutching his face in rage. He looked like a furious, oversized dog.
Seeing Luther struck, his two bodyguards, who had been waiting by the car, rushed forward.
“Get him! Take him down! I want him crippled!” Luther shouted furiously. Ever since Kayden had taken out two of his bodyguards before, Luther never went anywhere without protection.
The bodyguards obeyed and charged toward Kayden.
But before they could reach him, Kayden raised his hand. Two swift sounds-whoosh, whoosh-echoed, and both bodyguards collapsed to their knees. Blood sprayed from their throats as they fell lifelessly to the ground.
They were dead.
Kayden stared coldly at Luther and said, “Don’t bother struggling. It’s useless. You’re nothing but an ant in front of me. If I wanted to crush you, it would take nothing more than a sneeze. So, while I’m sparing your life, you’d better behave.”
Turning to Nick, Kayden ordered, “You two, come here and slap him. Let him know that some words should never be spoken.”
Nick stepped forward immediately.
Luther, panicking, gritted his teeth and yelled, “You dare hit me? You filthy peasant! If you dare slap me, I’ll burn your house down! I’ll sell your wife to a brothel! Don’t you know who I am? I’m Luther Falcon! Luther Falcon from the capital!”
He tried to move, but his body wouldn’t respond.
“What… what did you do to me?” he shouted at Kayden, his voice trembling with fear.
“Nothing,” Kayden replied calmly. “You’ll be fine after the slaps.”
“You bastard! You let these lowly peasants slap me? Do you have any idea who I am?”
To Luther, being struck by someone beneath him was the ultimate humiliation.
Smack! Without hesitation, Nick delivered a heavy slap to Luther’s face.
“Shut your mouth! You’re asking to die,” Nick said bluntly.
Afterward, he turned to Christina and said, “Christina, your turn.”
Christina, who wasn’t one to tolerate insults, stepped forward. Still fuming from Luther’s earlier remarks, she slapped him twice in quick succession, her strikes loud and sharp. Luther had no fight left in him.
“Enough. You can leave now,” Kayden said coldly.
Luther glared at him with hatred, his voice shaking with rage. “You’ll pay for this. Just wait!”
He scrambled into his car and drove off.
“Master, why didn’t you kill him? A grudge over a woman is something a man can’t forgive,” Nick said, stepping forward.
Kayden waved dismissively. “The time isn’t right.”
Kayden could have killed Luther right there for daring to be so arrogant. But he held back. He was giving himself a chance-and Georgia as well.
If he killed Luther, Georgia would hate him for the rest of her life. So he let him go.
Kayden glanced at the invitation in his hand, his expression darkening as he read the words printed on it:
“Dear Mr. Kayden Scott,
Luther Falcon, along with his beloved fiancee Georgia, cordially invites you to their engagement ceremony tomorrow at Serenity Grand Hotel. We hope you will honor us with your presence to witness our union.”
Closing the invitation, Kayden muttered, “Fine. I’ll be there.”
—
The next day, at Serenity Grand Hotel.
News of Luther and Georgia’s engagement had created a stir in Hiphia. Luther had gone to great lengths to publicize the event, ensuring that everyone in the city knew about it.
His intent was clear: if the engagement became widely known, Georgia wouldn’t be able to back out without ruining her reputation. A woman’s honor was everything, and Luther saw this as the perfect way to trap Georgia.
This time, he was determined to make the fake engagement real, confident that he would win her over completely.
Three years ago, Georgia’s first wedding had caused a similar commotion. Back then, she had married a fool, becoming the laughingstock of Hiphia. Many pitied her, the city’s most beautiful woman, for marrying such a man.
Now, she was making headlines again. To have a second wedding as sensational as the first was something only Georgia could achieve in Hiphia.
To make the engagement appear legitimate, Luther insisted on inviting many guests. Georgia didn’t argue and reluctantly agreed to his request.
But when she arrived at Serenity Grand Hotel, she was stunned. The place was filled with people, many of whom she recognized as business associates.
A fake engagement shouldn’t require so many people, especially not familiar faces. It all seemed too real.
She had no time to dwell on it. It was obvious this was all Luther’s doing.
What was he planning? Didn’t he say they would only invite a few friends?
As she silently fumed, an even more shocking scene unfolded before her eyes.
