I felt relieved after saying that to him, for the first time in my life I stood up for myself
“Don’t you ever refer me as one because am not a slut”
Xavier stared at me wide-eyed, holding his left cheek, which by the way has turned red.
I ignored him and started going outside,
“Jessica, am sorry okay, I was just…. I was just being ridiculous, am sorry”
I turned back and said nothing then left without a word.
I went to the balcony to cool down
“This is what I should have done to Collins after that stupid taunt he pulled on me”
Remembering what I passed through and how heartbroken I was at Collins betrayal, I started crying all over again.
“I will get through this, I just need to get employed officially at my workplace, yes that all I need to do”
“Jessica, am sorry, am really sorry, I was just angry, I shouldn’t have said that to you ”
Xavier came to me at the balcony where I was, I nodded my head and looked at him and smiled.
” We are going to visit my father soon, so we need to go shopping for cloths and whatever you need okay”
” No problem, do you have in mind what he would like?, I will like to give him a gift”
“Don’t worry, he isn’t picky, something simple could do, it’s the thought that counts okay?”
“Okay ”
I replied , he soon left me to my thoughts.
“Haa, it’s going to be a long night ”
The next morning, I prepared for work looking refreshed as if I didn’t experience anything bad yesterday night.
“Good morning, Good morning, Good morning ”
I greeted everyone as I headed to my seat, there were strange glances thrown at me here and there but I didn’t care.
“Miss Jessica, the manager sent for you ”
“Am on my way”
Murmurs followed me as I went in, literally everyone knows about how the manager treats me.
“So tell me, what was that yesterday night?”
“I don’t understand ma”
“What don’t you understand?, the fact you didn’t do your job or what, I sent you out to get information so what do you do? Nothing”
“Ma, I was told to go undercover but instead it was me selling myself out, I never knew our company, sells female workers out for a scoop”
“How dare you, why are pretending to be innocent, you said you will do anything I ask for, all I ask was for you to get the scoop same way you got an exclusive interview from Mr. Xavier, so what’s the big deal?”
“Ma, I got my interview fair and square there wasn’t a foul play, but you are telling me to sell myself out”
“How dare yo…..”
She raised her hand to slap me but her phone rang.
“Duu, Duu, Duu”
She gave me a stinky eye and answered her call,
“Hello, it’s Natalie Drew from Global Media, how may I help you ”
The person at the other end said something I didn’t hear because it wasn’t on loud speaker but seeing her face change from respectful to panic made me know whatever she was told wasn’t a good news.
“But sir…. I didn’t know…. I wasn’t aware…. am really sorry sir…. please”
(Sir?, seems like it’s the CEO for her to be behaving like this, I wonder what happened ).
I thought to myself, soon the call ended, she looked at my with blazing eyes,
“What did you do? Why was the CEO afraid of making you angry?, who are you? you hateful bitch”
I didn’t say anything, it was obvious to me who helped me in this matter, I smiled to myself.
I left the office and curious glances were thrown my way, I am sure that they heard everything that happened because of how loud she was, I went back to my seat with confidence, something I couldn’t do before.
The next two hours went by uneventful.
“I will come back and when I do, I will make sure you are fired from this company and no company will take you in”
The manager, I mean ex-manager said to me as she was passing me, carrying a box filled with her files and properties.
I felt chills down my bone but I held her gaze, am not gonna give her the satisfaction that she held me there.
Soon, it was almost time to go.
“Duu, Duu, Duu”
“Hello, Jessica Blackwell speaking ”
“Blackwell?, and I thought it’s McCartney ”
“Xavier, you surprised me ”
“Sorry, just wanted to know if you are done, so I can come get you, we need to prepare and leave soon to see my grandfather”
“Oh, yeah, am coming out now, I totally forgot about it”
“It’s okay, we still have time, I sent a car to get you because I know you won’t be happy if I do”
“Okay no problem ”
I went outside and an eye catching red sports car was waiting for me and the driver opening the car door for me
“You didn’t have to do that, everyone is looking, soon I will be the topic, don’t want any reporter snooping around me”
He didn’t say anything he just drove off, I brought out my phone only to get numerous messages notifications from the company’s group chats.
Gossipmonger: “Did you all see the car that took her home ?”
Sheisscoop: “tell me about it, I was shocked”
Lucky girl: “I checked the car at the market, it’s a limited model car, don’t want to say the worth”
Hi Charlie: “I will say the worth, it’s enough to buy our company and still have a lot remaining ”
I closed my phone immediately, I never knew this car was worth that much, the Metro company really is a very very wealthy company.
I reached home and saw Mr. Xavier standing on stairs waiting for me
“Are you ready”
