Chapter 104: Don’t even dare

Katie cried on the floor. “I should be the leader of the Moore, not you! I am Void, and I should have killed you when I had the chance… Where’s my son?!”
“He tried to get in touch with my rivals, wanting to take me down. He is only earning his punishment,” Klaus looked up at his men.
“Take her away,” he ordered, and they immediately obliged.
Gideon was being held captive by him; it turned out he was Katie’s weakness, and he could drive her crazy whenever he wanted… just like she did with him.
Klaus headed to his personal suite. Yes, he was married but had never touched Tasha, not even once.
It turned out Tasha merely got into the game to avenge what he did to her years ago. Now, she was in his clutches, living like a shadow.
Their marriage was merely a mystery in the eyes of many. Klaus would simply ignore the press if they asked about Tasha.
His heart still beats for only one person.
The woman he had broken, sending her away in a cruel manner.
He purposely instructed Wyatt to only deliver a sentence regarding her well-being. He was afraid to learn the other details. Guilty to know what she must have gone through for four years. Afraid to know if she had moved on.
He wasn’t ready to get that answer.
‘Why not go see her? Washington is not far from Montana after all,’ Klaus’s mind whispered as he overlooked the city from his room.
Will she understand that he had been fighting a war all these years? Will her heart ever accept him?
The answer scared him.

The day was bright, the sun’s hues settling on Morticia’s face, waking her from her sleep.
“Another crazy day,” she mumbled as she got out of bed. She brushed her teeth, took a bath, and opened her drawer to select a dress for the day.
They were all professional female suits in different colors. She never really went out. She chose a brown corporate dress.
Just work and home.
“Did I act weird that night we got drunk?” Morticia asked Rhea over the phone as she made a hangover soup for her throbbing head.
“No,” Rhea lied, and Morticia could see right through it.
“I talked about him again, didn’t I?” Morticia sighed.
“Not really. Just a little.”
“You don’t need to lie to me; I remember everything.” Morticia rolled her eyes, going to check her toast. “I’m thinking of trying that guy, Nolan. He seems to be into me.”
“What?”
“Yeah, you heard me. And I don’t care if he turns out to be a psycho,” Morticia said and ended the call.
Today, she was meeting the president of Scarlett Holdings with three of her team members. Morticia had heard tales of how cold the owner was-strict, mysterious, and ruthless. Perhaps that was why she was sent to speak with him.
Cold meeting cold. Miller must be crazy if he thinks she is good at conversations. She might screw this up with her short temper.
The branch of Scarlett Holdings was new in the city; it was massive and well-equipped. She didn’t know much about the company; she simply needed to talk business and leave the place.
The secretary led them to an office. The place was brand new, untouched. Right, she heard the president had never stepped foot into this branch.
Today would be his first time coming here. Their work must have attracted the so-called strict man to come over and see them.
The thought made Morticia’s lips curl up, but it dropped as they continued waiting.
“An hour?” Morticia glanced at her watch. “Their president is something else. Shouldn’t he have told us he’d be late if he was going to keep us waiting this long?” she muttered under her breath, earning a worried glance from her team.
Lisa whispered. “I’m sure he’ll be here soon.”
Morticia rolled her eyes, tapping her finger against the couch as the minutes dragged on. She hated waiting, especially for someone who thought their time was more important than everyone else’s. Just as she was about to say something else sarcastic, the door opened.
The secretary stepped inside, looking fluttered. “The president will see you now,”
Everyone stood as the figure stepped in, except Morticia, who kept staring into space, still upset with her arms folded.
Her team nervously glanced at each other, but the more shocking thing was how the president stared at Morticia…
“Mr. President, do you think an hour of waiting is the best way to make a good impression?” Morticia scoffed. “We might be a small company, but that doesn’t mean our time is any less valuable.” Her voice was sharp and unapologetic.
“Am I clear…” Her voice trailed off when she finally looked up.
The color drained from her face when her eyes met the person standing in front of her. Her mind synced, and her breath became too heavy to take.
He was staring back at her with the same expression. Utterly shocked.
The president was none other than Klaus himself.
Was it real, or was she just hallucinating? But the more she looked at him, the more she realized this was reality.
He looked taller, broader, more mature, and even more handsome. But his eyes were lifeless.
She quickly averted her gaze and stood up to walk past him.
“Bunnie,” he called, but she didn’t stop until he held her hand.
That touch!
“Do not do that, Klaus!” she yelled at him, his name rolling off her tongue after all these years.
Her eyes brimmed with tears; her voice was cold and dripping with pain and anger.
“Don’t try. Don’t even dare! Because no matter what you do or say, I won’t let you deceive me again. Ever.”
He stared at her with pleading eyes as if there were so many things he wanted to tell her.
She didn’t want to hear it. Not here. Not now, when the scar in her heart was beginning to burn.
With that, she turned to leave him standing, his shoulders slumping by his side…
