Chapter 28: What are we?

The next morning, Morticia woke up slowly with a light groan. Her body stretched on the bed as her eyes fluttered open to her familiar room.
The memories of last night hit her, and she blushed.
She rose from her bed, swung her feet to the floor, and headed downstairs.
“Innocent demon is awake,” Vincent’s voice greeted her. Morticia paused.
Klaus emerged from the kitchen, casting his usual blank gaze at her.
Her heart almost jumped out of her ribcage. She smiled at him, but he didn’t return it, which mad her frowned.
“Good morning, Bunnie,” he mumbled, eating the cereal he had brought from the kitchen and sitting beside Vincent.
“Let me have some,” Vincent reached out.
“No. Why do you want it now that I’ve made it? You said you weren’t interested a moment ago,” Klaus raised a brow at him.
“I wanted you to make it… now let me have some,” Vincent reached for it, but Klaus dodged.
“Go make your own.”
“Come on, just one spoon, okay?” Vincent pleaded.
“No… what’s with your mood? Seems like you had a good fuck last night,” Klaus mumbled as he ate.
“Just one!”
“I said no.”
Klaus was about to eat when Vincent slapped the bowl, spilling it on Klaus’s face. Milk trickled down, and cereal stuck to his skin, making him look ridiculous.
“If I can’t have it, no one does,” Vincent said.
“I’m going to kill you,” Klaus leaped on Vincent, using the armrest as a weapon, while Vincent threw a tantrum.
Morticia shook her head in disbelief. What a mess. These two acted like kids most of the time.
She headed upstairs to write about yesterday’s experience before she forgot.
A smile crept up her face as she recalled the tingles, his rough voice, his hands and lips over her, the words he said, and the fire that crept over her skin. It had been amazing.
Her smile dropped, remembering Jamie.
Never had she thought she would actually cheat on him-not once, but three times.
Rhea was right about the heart. No matter how hard she tried to stay away from Klaus… he would always come around.
But…
What is he to her now?
The question hung in the air, making her heart race. She would speak with Klaus to sort it out.
Well, the good thing is… he noticed her, and last night was one of the best moments of her life.

Rhea nearly spat out her drink after hearing Morticia’s story.
“No fucking way!”
Morticia bit her lip, her eyes darting around. “Can you keep it down, Rhea?”
“Sorry… I’m just wondering where my Morticia is. You guys shared the same bed? Don’t you think this is getting out of hand?” Rhea asked seriously.
“What?”
“I meant Jamie. You have to let him go.”
“I would, but I’m scared. I know it will hurt, but you know who Klaus is. He’s… Vincent’s best friend. Vince would lose it, and not only that, Klaus is the definition of a heartbreaker…”
Being with Klaus scared her. There was something about that morning. She had wanted to talk to him, but by the time she had prepared herself for school, he was already gone.
“I know how you feel. Okay, how about this? Talk to Klaus and find out what he really thinks about you… but as for Jamie, you have to tell him everything you did and let him go. You can’t hurt people, Morty. That’s not who you are,” Rhea said, and Morticia sighed.
“You’re the best… when are you going to get a boyfriend? I can’t wait to see who the lucky guy will be.”
“My three previous relationships sucked, so I’m not laying my heart out to be crushed again. I’m good, and I need to focus on my studies,” Rhea said.
Morticia pulled out her phone and texted Jamie.
~Hey, can we talk?, it’s really important~

Nica was contemplating what she had done. Telling Vincent everything about Morticia’s attack was the craziest thing she had ever done.
She couldn’t help it when Dimitri told her about the plan to hunt Morticia at the hangout party.
Maybe it was because of her feelings for Vincent that she hadn’t thought twice before informing him.
Dimitri would definitely know she was the one who snitched.
She was busy with a customer when Jamie entered the place.
“Oh God,” she mumbled when their eyes met. How did he find out where she was working?
“Nica,” he approached her quickly.
“What are you doing here?” she asked curtly.
“What do you mean, ‘What am I doing here?’ You’re not answering your texts or picking up your calls. I couldn’t find you at school. Do you know how worried I was?” he snapped.
“Just go away, Jamie. I’m busy.” Nica averted her gaze and focused on the next customer’s order.
“Mom is so worried… and Dad-”
“I said leave,” Nica snapped.
“Did you fight with Dad? He was hurt in your room. Was that your doing?” Jamie’s voice slowly became cold. “Talk to me, Nica.”
“Yes, I did it. And I wish I had killed him… satisfied? Now get the fuck out,” she snapped, not realizing how loud her voice was. Her eyes darted around, catching the stares of nearby customers.
“Fine. I’ll let you be.” Jamie clenched his jaw, his eyes not matching his words. He turned and left the restaurant as Nica let out the breath she had been holding.

Morticia hadn’t seen Klaus all day, not even at school. She had been dying to talk to him, at least.
She glanced down at Jamie’s message.
~I’m so sorry, I’ve been busy dealing with some shits recently. I’m not avoiding you and I’m sorry. I love you so much Morty. I promise to make it up to you~
Morticia sighed at the message. She didn’t even know how to reply.
She finally arrived at Klaus’s private suite, and as usual, the security man welcomed her in.
“Is Klaus home?” she asked, and he nodded.
She heard slow music coming from behind the building and walked toward it, her heart racing.
As she approached, her smile fell at the sight. Klaus was in the pool with six others. One was a tattooed male she didn’t recognize, and the rest… were all girls.
Girls dressed in barely-there swimsuits, almost naked. They looked slutty, lounging in the pool with alcohol.
Klaus had his arm around one of the girl’s neck as he smoked.
“Well, hello there,” one of the girls spotted her, and they all turned to look.
Normally, Morticia would have responded… but not this time.
“Bunnie?” Klaus put out his cigarette.
“Who’s she, Sin? Your sister?” the girl straddling him asked, her eyes scanning Morticia’s sweatshirt and jeans.
“No, she’s my buddy’s sister,” he replied, and the reality of that words dawn upon her.
He removed his hand from around the girl before giving Morticia a questioning look.
“Come join us,” the girl offered, but Morticia ignored her.
“Klaus, can I talk to you for a sec?” Her voice was a little rough, and Klaus frowned slightly.
“Sure,” he emerged from the pool and followed her inside the room.
“Is everything alright?” he asked.
Morticia took a deep breath to calm herself. She decided to go straight to the point to see his reaction.
“I… I’m breaking up with Jamie,” she said, watching his face.
“Wow, Mr. Wimp is gonna be heartbroken. Why though?”
His question shattered her heart.
“What do you mean, why?” she asked, and he frowned. Was he really clueless, or just pretending? “What are we? Y-you said we couldn’t be friends. So what are we?”
“I don’t know. We’re just more than friends. What do you want us to be?”
Her mouth opened for a second, but no words came out. This was unbelievable.
“What about what happened last night? Did it mean something? You didn’t even talk to me about it…” She finally found her voice.
Klaus sighed, his voice laced with annoyance. “Seriously, Bunnie, that was just a fling. You wanted it, and I did too… so we had it.”
Tears welled up in Morticia’s eyes. Did he just say Fling?
“A fling? That’s why you’re hanging out with other girls?” she whispered, her voice shaky. What had meant so much to her was just a fling to him? That so harsh.
Klaus sighed again, tearing her apart with his next words.
“You’re not my girlfriend, Bunnie. I don’t date. So quit acting up…”
