Ayan asked casually, his tone completely natural.
But after spending so much time with him, Camille naturally understood him quite well.
He was clearly testing her, but she could only pretend not to understand.
She couldn’t remember how long it had been since she and Ayan played mind games like this. She looked at Ayan with a faint gaze and whispered, “I haven’t contacted her. Let’s talk about it after I go to Flento City. But it also depends on the timing. If I have enough time, I’ll ask her to take me to buy some of the delicious food that she brought from Flento City before. Although I have lived in Flento City for a while, there are still many places I’m not familiar with. Crystal is a native of Flento City and she knows where to buy the delicious food.”
As Camille spoke, she picked up her phone to make a note so that she wouldn’t forget later.
Her actions made Ayan pause for a moment, but in the end, he didn’t say anything. He just squinted his eyes slightly, a faint smile appearing on his face as he said, “Will Crystal invite you to her house for a meal?”
“You should ask her that question. After all, she is the host, and I don’t think I’ll have time to drop by for a meal. I’m so busy now. After I finish the work there, I’ll come back immediately. There’s a lot going on with the project team, and I don’t want to hold my team members back!”
Camille sighed as she spoke, feeling exhausted in her heart.
She felt like nothing she said was quite right. But knowing how observant Ayan was, if she didn’t say anything, it would probably be worse.
This time going to Flento City, she wanted to meet Kathleen in person and then make plans based on their conversation.
So for now, she didn’t want to reveal too much to Ayan.
That evening was mostly Ayan testing her, and she kept responding nervously. There was a moment when she felt like she couldn’t hold back and just tell him the truth.
But in the end, the words remained unsaid.
Apart from the current situation, she found it somewhat amusing that Ayan had hidden everything from her. It didn’t make her angry because Ayan just wanted to protect her and prevent her from worrying too much. Keeping things hidden seemed to be his only option. It just left her feeling powerless.
She didn’t know how long Ayan had kept this from her, but she would find out once she met the Bills in Flento City.
Her emotions were indescribable for everything.
Before going to bed, she packed all her luggage. It was just a one-day trip, so she didn’t need much. Just a set of clean clothes would suffice.
After packing everything, she took a shower and prepared to rest.
She told Ayan, “Tomorrow, I have to go see my grandmother. We haven’t visited her for so long, and she must be very lonely!”
Speaking of her grandmother filled Camille with nostalgia and reluctance. Her grandmother had been gone for so long, but it felt like she was still here, and nothing changed.
She missed her grandmother a lot, but she had never appeared in her dreams. Perhaps her grandmother had no regrets when she passed away.
Ayan understood Camille’s thoughts. He nodded approvingly and said, “That’s what we should do. From now on, we should make time to visit her. I’ll accompany you.”
Camille nodded lightly. That would be great.
She nestled in Ayan’s arms and listened to his heartbeat. Her heart eased slightly. She was someone who lacked security deep down. It had always been that way since childhood because of Brody and Page’s indifference towards her, which made her feel unloved. It wasn’t until she started living with her grandmother that things got better.
She fell in love with Ayan despite going through a lot of hardships. But looking back now, she couldn’t remember how much pain there was. She could only remember the good times.
It was said that people only remembered the good things and didn’t keep sadness and pain in their hearts forever.
Camille sighed silently and closed her eyes as sleep gradually overtook her.
As he looked at the person in his arms, Ayan’s face seemed burdened with worries and unease.
Though it was already close to dawn now, he had no intention of sleeping.
After hesitating for a while, he got up from the bed.
He walked out of the bedroom at a slow pace and went straight to the study, his handsome face cold.
He sat down at the desk in the study and picked up his phone to make a call.
Since it was late at night, it took a while for the other party to answer the phone after it rang for a while.
“Hello?”
The woman’s voice sounded sleepy.
Ayan calmly said, “Do you know that Camille is going to Flento City tomorrow?”
There was a brief pause on the other end before the woman replied, “Is she coming tomorrow? She didn’t tell me. We haven’t been in touch recently. Why is she coming?”
Ayan didn’t respond immediately. He remained silent as if he was silently judging whether these words were true or false.
The atmosphere became tense for a few seconds before he finally spoke again, “If she contacts you and reaches out to you first, keep it hidden from the Bill family for now. It’s not the right time for Camille to meet them. The Bill family currently has their own agenda and it won’t do any good to Camille.”
After Ayan finished speaking, Crystal also fell into silence.
Ayan asked, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Is this difficult for you?”
Crystal hurriedly said, “No, I’m just thinking if the Bill family finds out that Camille is here, won’t they miss this opportunity?”
“Don’t worry about that. The Bill family won’t find out.”
“What do you mean by that, Mr. Simpson?”
“You’ll find out tomorrow,” Ayan said indifferently but with deep meaning behind his words as if he had already made plans.
Crystal instantly became worried upon hearing this. Her face became very gloomy as she said, “Mr. Simpson, if you feel the need to harm the Bill family in order to protect Camille… can I ask you not to hurt my parents and grandfather?”
“My parents have devoted many years to the Bill family. I’m their only daughter. I only want them to be well off. As for Camille’s situation, my parents haven’t been involved because my grandfather doesn’t want them involved either. I’m not sure about the specific reasons why my grandfather made that decision. As for my grandfather… He’s old now. I just want him to live his remaining years peacefully.”
Out of everyone in the Bill family, Crystal loved her parents the most, and then her grandfather, even though her grandfather wasn’t very affectionate towards her due to favoring her cousin more because he was a boy.
