“You don’t have to worry about anything; I am sure father will reply,” Levi said, getting close to Maya and hugging her. She knew how her mother suffered through all this.
“I regret everything. I am sorry. I can never repay you for what you both lost because of me,” Maya’s tears started falling from her eyes as she began crying.
“Anyone in your place would have done the same, Mom. And we are glad you didn’t leave us in that pack. We don’t want to live without you,” Levi hugged her tighter, not wanting to see her mother cry.
Maybe she had always been a bit angry or in pain because of what she never got, but that didn’t mean she didn’t see her mother doing her best for her and Rish.
She did sometimes miss her father, but she suppressed all urges, knowing it wasn’t something her mother was at fault for.
It’s just that time was like that, and nobody could stop anything. Everything was meant to happen, and it did.
“Still, that doesn’t mean I should have been so selfish to take you both away from your father,” Maya poured her heart out. She knew how selfish she had been just because she wanted to be with her kids.
She didn’t want to be alone, and she didn’t want to put her husband in a situation where he suffered. But she knew when she left, how heartbroken he was they had loved each other for so many years.
And it wasn’t just some human love; it was mate, soulmate kind of love. They were just so happy; he was healing everyone, as a healer, and she was treating everyone’s wounds, as a doctor, with two beautiful kids.
The Moon Goddess gave them everything, but in a second snatched it all away too.
She didn’t know what she should feel other than guilt and regret. She was going through this whole life, but today, after seeing Priya, her heart screamed.
Not only for her kids, but also for Priya, who was bleeding and looked like she had suffered so much. She didn’t even know where to start, and she didn’t know what to ask Priya.
One thing she knew: if someone ran away on their wedding day, something horrible happened.
And how was she going to tell the truth to Priya? Would she even understand?
The questions had so many answers, but she had none that she needed.
“I know, Mom, you wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t needed. So stop blaming yourself. Not for leaving Priya at the station because you had no choice. Anyone in your place would have done the same. You shouldn’t blame yourself for leaving the pack too; it’s what was necessary, nothing wrong,” Rish reassured her, seeing his mom cry.
Levi broke the hug and smiled at her mom. “It’s already night. You write the letter, and we will post it for the pack. As you know, the werewolf post office is different, so it will take time. But let’s be hopeful. And Priya needs rest too. Tomorrow, we will talk with her about why she ran away from that Priyank.”
“I agree with Levi. We first need to understand the whole situation. She suffered. We can’t tell her the truth of her identity, at least not now,” Rish nodded in approval of his sister’s words, adding his own words.
“Indeed, we must tread carefully,” Maya replied, wiping her tears. “Priya needs time to heal, both physically and emotionally.”
“Do you need us to help you write the letter?” Levi and Rish asked in unison.
With a deep breath, Maya composed herself. “No. I will write the letter alone. You both should sleep.”
Levi and Rish both nodded, understanding that their mother had a lot she needed to say and write to their father. It had been so many years; they didn’t even remember their father’s face that clearly, but they knew their mother remembered every detail deeply.
For Werewolves, mates are very precious, so leaving one was always painful, especially when they loved each other so deeply and children were involved.
“Goodnight, Mom,” they said, walking out of the room.
Maya walked towards the drawer, pulled out paper and a pen, and sat back down in her chair. She looked at the forest, remembering how they used to come here for runs. This place was close to the pack, but she still couldn’t bring herself to go there and meet her husband.
A part of her felt angry too because this cabin was where she and her husband had spent their youth, where they had wild nights.
That’s why she had chosen to stay here, thinking that maybe one day her husband would come looking for her, and it would be easier for him.
As Maya sat down with the paper and pen, memories flooded her mind. She remembered the laughter, the warmth, and the love they shared. But now, all she felt was the weight of regret and the emptiness of their broken bond.
With a trembling hand, she began to write:
“My Dearest Mate,
It has been far too long since we last spoke, since we last saw each other’s faces. The pain of our separation weighs heavy on my heart every single day. I know I cannot erase the mistakes of the past, but I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.
Our children have grown into fine young adults, but they long to know their father. They carry your blood, your spirit, and they deserve to have you in their lives. I have done my best to raise them, to give them love and guidance, but they need you too.
I know I hurt you deeply when I left, and for that, I am truly sorry. I was lost, confused, and I made a selfish decision. But please believe me when I say that I never stopped loving you. You were, and always will be, my soulmate.
Life has been difficult without you. I miss your laughter, your touch, your presence beside me. I miss the way we used to run through the forest, the way we danced under the moonlight. I miss us.
I don’t know if you still care, if you still think of me, but I had to reach out. I’ve found the royal heir. I can’t say more in this letter, but hopefully, you’ll find me at the cabin where we spent half our lives. I will be waiting for you.
Yours always,
Maya”
As she finished the letter, tears stained the paper. Maya folded it carefully, sealed it in an envelope, and placed it on the table.
‘Please, Moon Goddess, let this be our last hope,’ Maya whispered, sending a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess, hoping against hope that her message would reach her husband.
