“Ahem… Although I don’t like Darnell, I somewhat agree with him this time.”
Karlee’s words silenced the room, and her pretty face turned slightly red. Fortunately, Alexander reacted quickly and changed the subject with a cough.
“These days, people are irrational and unreasonable. The recent online buzz and school posters have primarily focused on promoting Caleb Tomlinson and Yaretzi Elwes.”
“If they don’t show up, and there’s no more famous celebrity to take their place, there will be chaos.”
“Not only will we be criticized, but the school’s reputation will also suffer.”
“People will think that the University of Whiteville, known for its top-notch facilities, can’t even organize a proper event.”
Karlee bit her lip. “It’s not just difficult to get a big star. Even if we could, there’s not enough time.”
Even if they were to find a replacement star to close the show, they only had a few hours left. Where could they possibly find such a celebrity, and how could they convince a substitute to perform?
Everyone racked their brains.
Karlee hesitated as she touched her phone with her left hand.
Darnell glanced at her and then continued flipping through the newspaper. Suddenly, his gaze fell on an advertisement featuring a young woman.
She was beautiful, dazzling, and graceful.
Lisa’s eyes were also drawn to it. She suddenly had a bright idea and exclaimed excitedly, “Brother, I have an idea!”
Everyone turned their attention to Lisa.
Lisa stepped forward, grabbed Darnell’s newspaper, and pointed to the beautiful woman. “Brother, the diva, Makenna Frances is currently in Whiteville for an endorsement.”
“She is a famous actress, a pop singer, and a guest on talent shows.”
“You’ve met her before, right?”
Lisa gently reminded her brother. “Her agent received gifts from you, remember? You could try contacting her to see if she can make an appearance tonight and sing two songs.”
“As for the money… if the school budget is limited, we can cover it. We aren’t short on money.”
“Anyway, let’s make this event perfect so that Karlee can shine as the host.”
Karlee spoke calmly. “Money isn’t a problem. It’s mainly that this event can’t fail. The school leaders trust us so much. If it fails, we’ll let them down.”
She turned to Alexander and added, “Do you know Makenna Frances? If she can come to help us, I can offer two million dollars!”
“I’ve had drinks with Makenna Frances. I’m very familiar with her.”
Alexander forced a smile and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll contact her now. As for the money, it’s not an issue.”
“She won’t charge me either.”
He took out his phone and walked to a corner. “Wait here. I guarantee I’ll get her here.”
Several female students looked at Alexander with admiration, thinking he was amazing for knowing an A-list celebrity.
At this moment, Darnell scratched his head in confusion. “Since when did Makenna Frances’s taste become so low?”
“Hello, Rose. This is Alexander Chavez from Whiteville.”
Alexander held his iPhone and spoke loudly. “We met at the charity gala in Lightford. We had drinks together.”
He suddenly lowered his voice. “Yes, yes, I’m the fan club moderator who got hit by your car. I’m honored you remember me.”
“I’m calling because…”
Under Karlee and the others’ watchful eyes, Alexander spoke softly for a while, mentioning several figures during the conversation. “Yes, I hope you can help us out.”
“What? Miss Frances doesn’t have time? You’re already on the airport highway?”
“Leaving at seven tonight? What a shame!”
With that, Alexander ran back to the group with a regretful look at Karlee and the others.
“Karlee, I’m really sorry. Miss Frances wanted to help us out tonight but their private jet is scheduled to leave at seven from Whiteville.”
“She can’t help us this time.”
Karlee looked disappointed. “Thank her for me. I hope we can collaborate next time.”
Alexander nodded and was about to speak when Darnell reached out and grabbed the phone.
“Rose! You have three hours to bring Makenna Frances to the University of Whiteville!”
Alexander’s face changed when he heard this. He didn’t expect Darnell to be so rude!
Lisa was so angry she could hardly speak. “You jerk…”
By scolding Makenna Frances’s agent using Alexander’s phone, Darnell was causing big trouble for Alexander and likely severing their relationship.
Alexander was furious as he grabbed the phone back and repeatedly apologized, “Rose, I’m sorry for what just happened…”
However, he received no response from Rose. Instead, he heard her frantically shout, “Oh my goodness! My goodness! It’s him! It’s him!”
Then there was a loud bang from the other end of the line.
“Hello? Rose? Rose?!”
Alexander listened to the beeping sound anxiously before redialing only to find it switched off. He was very annoyed.
“Darnell! What do you think you’re doing? Do you know what you’ve done?”
If he hadn’t known Darnell had some skills, Alexander would have hit him by now. “You’ve made me lose a friend!”
Lisa glared at Darnell angrily. “Makenna Frances has always been proud. Being scolded like that, she must be infuriated!”
“Not only won’t she come to the University of Whiteville to help us out now, but she’ll definitely cut ties with my brother in the future too! Why are you so despicable? Always looking for chances to cause trouble for my brother?”
Karlee said nothing but pressed her lips tightly together as if waiting for an answer.
“If she really considered you a friend, she wouldn’t cut ties with you just because of a few crazy words from me. If that’s the case, she’s not worth your time anyway.”
Darnell stretched lazily before adding, “But I can tell you this, Makenna Frances will definitely appear at the University of Whiteville tonight.”
No one believed him. They thought he was arrogant.
No one believed him and looked down on Darnell’s arrogance. For the rest of the time, aside from Karlee, no one paid him any attention.
The group’s focus shifted back to preparing for tonight’s show.
With Karlee present, Alexander, despite his deep resentment towards Darnell, refrained from any extreme actions. Instead, he issued several commands, splitting the team into groups to get things done.
Lisa and a few students went to arrange for additional student performances, while he hurried to the hotel to plead with Yaretzi Elwes and Caleb Tomlinson.
Alexander believed that if he could solve the problem in this critical moment, Karlee would certainly regard him more favorably.
As they busied themselves, Karlee returned to the stage to familiarize herself with her lines.
At that moment, on the highway near Whiteville Airport, a sleek black limousine contained a sharp-looking blonde woman who was staring blankly at her shattered Zoomsung phone.
Suddenly, she jolted, struggling to extract the SIM card. It took her a full three minutes to finally pry it out, only to discover that the chip had been burned.
With a distressed expression, she kept repeating, “Why? Why? Tell me why?”
“Damn Zoomsung phone! It explodes at the worst moment! I need to buy a new phone.”
She kicked the phone in frustration.
“Rose, why are you making such a fuss…”
At that moment, a gentle yet penetrating voice came from the front seat. “What’s wrong?”
Rose didn’t respond directly. Instead, she expressed her urgency, “Miss Frances, we have to go to the University of Whiteville right now.”
A calm voice replied, “Give me one reason.”
“That man is at the University of Whiteville right now!”
