Ansel was slightly taken aback and turned to look at her. “I’m single.”
Susan Clark’s smile deepened. She looked ahead, feeling a sudden sweetness in her heart. Ansel also turned his gaze back to the road, not pondering why she asked that question. He gripped the steering wheel and focused on driving.
After a while, the car stopped outside the teacher’s residential area. The heavy rain had lessened somewhat.
“Thank you, Mr. Johnsons.”
“You’re welcome.”
Susan Clark thanked him again, then opened the door, raised her umbrella, and left.
On his way home, Ansel couldn’t help but think of Agnes. He remembered every word she said, every expression she made. After all, she was the girl who occupied his entire youth. In the future he once planned, there was only her.
But now, she was married to someone else… The last time they met was at her engagement party, and several months had passed since then.
He heard she was expecting twins. Ansel felt a bit sad but also wished her well. He loved her and hoped she would be happy. If Agnes could be happy, Ansel’s sky would have fewer clouds.
Thinking of Susan Clark, he felt that this girl had many similarities with Agnes-not just in appearance but in personality as well. They had interacted quite a bit in the office recently and had become friends.
The next morning, the rain stopped. The city after the rain was always spotlessly clean.
In the villa, Claire felt contractions right after breakfast. She sat in a chair, hands on her belly, feeling it again and again.
She finally confirmed that labor had started.
“I think the baby is coming!” Claire looked up, her voice trembling slightly with nervousness but also with a happy smile on her face.
Everyone at the dining table turned their eyes to her and became tense!
“Let’s go to the hospital!” Catherine stood up. “Where is the delivery bag? I’ll get it!”
“It’s already at the hospital.” Rowan stood up and helped Claire. “Be careful; we’re going to the hospital now. Don’t be afraid; be brave.”
They didn’t call an ambulance. Rowan and Catherine helped her out of the living room with Bertie following closely.
“Careful.” Everyone was extremely nervous as they helped her into the car.
Catherine drove while Bertie sat in the front passenger seat. Rowan stayed with Claire in the spacious back seat.
The car headed towards Rowan’s hospital.
Claire lay against Rowan’s leg, curling up slightly to ease the pain. She felt both anticipation and fear.
Rowan took out his phone and calmly called the obstetrics director, who quickly made all necessary preparations.
“It hurts…” Claire had been expecting this moment for ten months, but now that it had arrived, she felt very anxious and uneasy, even a bit scared. After all, delivering a baby weighing several pounds from one’s body was predictably painful-she had watched many videos about it before.
Rowan held her hand tightly. “Don’t be afraid; I’m here.” He tried to encourage her but honestly, he was just as nervous as she was.
Because he loved her so much, he wanted to share her burden. But childbirth was something he couldn’t share, which made him anxious too.
Rowan called Finnley as well as Mr. and Mrs. Mo to inform them that Claire was about to give birth.
In the car, Rowan gently stroked her face. “Take deep breaths; you must take deep breaths.”
“Can you stay with me?”
“Of course,” he said. “I’ll stay with you all the way.”
Catherine’s driving skills were impressive; she overtook cars smoothly and got them to the hospital as quickly as possible.
Professional obstetric medical staff were already waiting downstairs when they arrived. Claire was placed on a stretcher.
Earlier on their way there, Rowan had called Mr. and Mrs. Mo along with Finnley and Mya; they were all rushing over now, everyone feeling tense.
At this moment, Claire truly enjoyed everyone’s love and care; everyone was nervous for her, cheering for her safe delivery and eagerly awaiting the baby’s arrival.
