CHAPTER 44

ANASTASIA
I don’t know if that girl vanished into thin air or what, because I’ve been searching around for about ten minutes now.
And it feels like hours to me!
I went over to the spot where Cassandra and Damian met me, but I didn’t see any of them nor picked their scents.
“Maybe Diego has seen Damian already,” I believed, trusting that crafty wolf.
Getting tired of looking, I decided to take a seat at the bar counter and rest my legs.
“What will it be?” The waiter asked, pointing at the drinks.
Just as I was about to pick out my choice… “Give us your best hot drink,” Cassandra suggested, sitting next to me with a smile on that face!
After all my search, the devil decided to pop out of her hiding when the target has given up?
Classic bitch.
It’s almost as if she followed me around, probably from behind!
“We need to celebrate, Anna. This is to our reunion as sisters,” She said with a grin, signalling the waiter to be quick with our drinks.
If not for Diego, I would have walked out on Cassandra or done something to express my deep hatred for her. But he said I should endure if I want things to go my way, so… That’s what I’m going to do.
“So,” She started, turning to face me.
I could tell from the corner of my eyes without looking at her. She’s about to dig into my life like the mole she was born to be.
“You and Alpha Diego? As in the same Alpha our father always sings about? You two are actually dating?” Casey asked, smirking.
I finally turned to look in her direction, watching how she kept that annoying simper boldly in my face.
Holding back my anger, I hummed and responded, “Maybe it’s a different Alpha father was talking about, because Diego is nothing like father’s tales.”
“Oh don’t try to hide the truth because he’s your boyfriend, Anastasia.” She rolled her eyes, grabbing her drink from the waiter roughly. “He’s still Alpha Diego of Crescent pack. The same dangerous under boss father warned us to keep our distance away from!”
I watched how she gulped that down in one goal, like it’s nothing. She slammed the tumbler hard on the counter and asked, ” How did you end up with him?”
Her behavior showed that she wasn’t pleased with my closeness to Alpha Diego.
Let’s just say she’s angry with the fact that I’m not on the streets giving my pussy out to hungry men for free, just like they wanted.
“Come on now, Anna. I want to know how you two met. I mean… This is a man we all know as a hard nut to break. How did you get him wrapped around your fingers?” She questioned, fixing her curious gaze on me.
Even though I hated her with all my heart, I still didn’t want to keep her hanging. After all, she’s the one who’s asking.
“I don’t know where to start with this, but… Gosh, it was the most beautiful experience for me,” I said, faking deep affection over the imaginary moment I was talking about.
“I was leaving the pack that night and didn’t even know where I was heading to. A nice fancy car stopped right in my front and the driver told me his boss would like to pick me up.”
“In your wedding dress?” She asked, raising her brow.
I nodded, confirming it. “Exactly, in my wedding dress. This Boss man saw me in my wedding attire and stopped to pick me up. And that sweet man was my Diego,” I said, giving out a sweet sigh.
From the corner, I saw Cassandra rolling her eyes with her hand clenching tightly to her glass.
She then threw another question, trying to make me feel off about my relationship with Diego. “A stranger just picked you up in the middle of the night out of nowhere, and you agreed to it? Doesn’t that sound fishy like… Like maybe he’s using you?”
“Oh please, Casey. If he was using me like you’re assuming, I’d have known a long time,” I scoffed, pushing my drink aside.
“Anna, don’t let love or whatever it is you’re feeling for that man, deceive you. Have you forgotten he’s…” She looked around to see if anyone was close, before drawing nearer to whisper, ” Have you forgotten he’s a Mafia Lord? Like a bloody underworld killer?!”
“Oh Waw, I’m so shocked,” I uttered sarcastically, laughing at my step sister.
“You think this is funny?” She questioned, stunned at my reaction.
“Anna, this… This is no joking matter! That man…”
“That man is nothing but an innocent sweet loving business man, who is being misinterpreted by everyone just because he’s always silent and tough when it comes to serious business!” I interrupted her, giving her no chance to speak ill about my Alpha Lord.
“Alpha Diego… No, my Diego, is as innocent as a day old baby. That man is the most lovely beast I have ever seen,” I praised, lifting my shoulders to show my pride in him.
“You can’t be serious. That guy?” She frowned in doubt.
“Father was wrong about him. In fact, we were all wrong about Diego. He’s an angel, ” I added, snapping my fingers at the waiter to come over.
“I don’t need this please. Fruit wine would be nice.”
“Alright ma’am,” He said, attending to my order.
I turned to face my stepsister, who stared at me with fury. She no longer hid it from me. It was visible this time.
“Sis,” She called, giving out a big sigh to calm her temper. Then out with another fake sympathetic smile, she said, placing her hand on mine, “I know you’re hurting and don’t want to share it, but I’m your sister and I can tell that you aren’t happy.”
“And what makes you say that?” I asked, squinting my gaze at her.
She swayed her head lightly and responded, bringing up my failed mating ceremony into the matter, ” You are suffering from that painful rejection caused by Damian. And I can tell that you are only trying to hide behind this fake story by saying you’re happy with that dangerous wolf!”
Look who’s talking. At least Diego is opened. She is just a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
“I get it, Sis.” Her hand fell on my shoulder, slowly reaching for my face. “You’re angry, you’re bittered about what happened to you. It’s hard to live your life outside as a disgusting sex freak, that’s why you…”
“Disgusting sex freak?” I picked those words, lifting my brow at Casey in amusement.
Oh, so she finally opened her mouth to call me what she has been dying to name me for long
How wonderful!
“I’m sorry, sis. It just slipped… you know that’s the truth. We know you’re crazy about sex and it has really made your life miserable to the point of getting disowned by Dad and kicked into the street! You are mad at me for taking your place at the altar as Damian’s mate and… Oh Goddess.”
She caressed my face, pretending to feel my pains.
“I feel so sad, Anna. You are really suffering. How I wish I came back that night and stopped father from chasing away his favorite and lovely child. How I wish I saved you in time from getting yourself tangled with that man!”
She sniveled, allowing tiny droplets of tears to escape the side of her left eye.
“I know for a fact that he’s controlling your life. He wants you to fake happiness outside when clearly you’re not! Anastasia…” She grabbed my arm tightly and said, “Just tell me the truth. I’m your sister. Are you happy with Alpha Diego?”
Her behavior amused me even more.
My lips parted into laughter, as I cackled at Casey’s madness over my situation, swaying my head at this clown.
“Are you practicing for an audition or is there something you’re not telling me?” I laughed harder, cleaning the tear drop from my right eye.
“What do you mean by that? I am being serious here.”
