ALESSIA’S POV
My worst fear has finally shown its ugly head.
When I thought I would be having a life of bliss. The life I have always dreamt of, with Cassius.
As a Mafia lord, I know an arranged marriage would be beneficial for him, at some point. But I never realised it would be sooner than I expected.
Would it be greedy to say that I want Cassius all to myself?
I want him to get married to me and not some arranged bride?
But, since it all got to this, my heart was shattered into millions of pieces and a fist-sized lump lodged in my throat.
The reality of everything weighed on my shoulder, and my stomach twisted with some feelings that I couldn’t quite place a finger on.
I felt low and used, as tears cascaded down my cheeks and fell on my thighs.
” Stop crying, Alessia,” CeCe held my shoulder tight, trying to comfort me, but I didn’t feel the need to be comforted. I can’t be comforted. ” We can settle this. Just call his again.”
” I can’t, CeCe. He already made his pick, but I have just one question for him.” I said, more tears cascading down my eyes, and soon, my eyes became all puffy and red.
” You can ask him once he comes here or calls you.” CeCe said, her face contorted into a worry one.
” What if he doesn’t come again? What if he doesn’t call again? Forever?” I asked, my heart breaking and gnawing at me. ” I don’t think I can leave without Cassius in my life. I know I’m stupid to say this, but I’m in love with him!”
I dread this feeling inside of me. I hate that I’m crying for a man who has never for once confessed that he loves me. Who has never held me by my chin and raise my gaze to his, staring at me with the most delicate eyes on earth.
I might be a woman who crave for love and care, since I didn’t get one from my biological parents, neither from my adopted parents, and Lucas. They all broke their promises. Leaving without saying goodbyes, leaving without giving me one last hug, leaving without keeping their promises to stay by me, forever.
Cassius also broke his promise. He might not have said it directly, or promise to stay with me for as long as forever, but he also broke his promise.
Now, I’m left with CeCe. The only person who remained with me and my Aunt.
” You need sleep and rest for now. He will come or call you back, Alessia.” CeCe said and I nodded.
I stood up from the tiled floor, with my phone clutched on my chest.
‘ He will call me back. It’s just a matter of time.’
That statement seems like my only comfort.
I didn’t want to think otherwise. I didn’t want to think about what would happen if Cassius never calls or come back for me. I don’t want to think about what would happen if I heard that he already got married to a rich brat.
I will be broken forever, if worst comes to worst.
The thought alone makes my inside clench and twist, and made me want to poke all my guts out.
Until I fell asleep, CeCe remained by my side, and my phone lay peacefully on my chest, without a single ding, let alone a ring.
He never came.
He didn’t call or even messaged me.
I woke up few hours later. The dawning of the sun cast a golden hue at the east side, slipping into my room through the see-through curtains.
My head ache, and my eyes throbbed in pain, due to the tears from earlier.
CeCe who was also asleep beside me stir awake, when I tried to tiptoe out of the room.
” You’re awake.” She groaned, stretching her body, her eyes on me. ” How do you feel?”
I forcer a smile. A smile that didn’t reach my eyes. ” I’m getting better.”
” I will need you to pick yourself up, and pretend like nothing had happened, that way, it would be easier to let go.”
It was easier said than done.
I can’t see my future self stop loving Cassius.
He brought out the real me. The real me which I never knew existed.
It’s funny to think that, I have always put in my wishlist to get married to a delicate, kindhearted and loving man, but here I was, crying for a dangerous Mafia lord.
A dark man who loves the smell of blood and seeing his prey struggle for breath, excites the fuck out of him.
How did we get here?
Where did it all went wrong?
” I will try, CeCe. Thank you for staying by me.” I smiled. This time, a genuine one. ” Thank you for not breaking your promises like others did.”
” You’re my best friend, I can’t leave you. Not now or ever. Even death can’t do us part.” She laughed, rubbing her palm against mine in a suiting way.
While we were having our moment, a knock was placed on the door of my apartment.
My heart literally flew straight into my mouth.
Cassius was back for me.
He didn’t abandoned me, like I had thought.
A smile graced my lips, as I rushed down from the bed, despite CeCe’s calls.
” Alessia! Come back! It’s not….” I was already gone before she could even continue speaking.
I pushed the door open with a wild smile, but it fell upon seeing the person at the door.
It wasn’t Cassius, it was someone else… Nathaniel.
He was grinning widely as he raised his hand to wave at me.
I was trying so hard to mask my disappointment.
” Hey… it’s you,” I said dryly, with a smile that didn’t reach my eyes.
Maybe I would be less disappointed if I had stayed back and listen to what CeCe had to say, instead of running out before she could even speak.
” I told you he wasn’t the one you’re waiting for.” CeCe said from behind, her hands under her chest.
” Oh, okay.” I laughed dryly, as I opened the door widely for Nathaniel to come in.
” It’s been a while, Alessia.” Nathaniel smiled.
” Yeah, it has.” I smiled and walked back to sit on a sofa.
” I’m here to invite you to an orientation and Art gala at Mira’s Art gala tomorrow.” He started, staring deep into my eyes. ” I need a partner with me. If you feel uncomfortable, you can also come with CeCe.”
” Yeah, I will try to be there.” I said, and CeCe smiled. ” We will come. Who would miss an Art gala?”
” Okay, I will send your dress for you, as my partner, and also, I have something to say to you.” His eyes dimmed and his voice turned nervous.
” What is that?” I asked, but he shook his head with a smile.
” I will let you know later. At the Art gala.”
