ALESSIA’S POV
On my way home, I got a call from Lucas which irked me.
My stomach twisted with a particular feeling that I could quite point a finger at.
It was definitely not hate, or anger, but he made my stomach twist so much that I almost threw up inside my car.
Nevertheless, I was able to compose myself and pick his call after the third ring.
I have no idea why he was calling, and really didn’t want to know.
” Hello,” I mustered up all the strength in me not to gauge as we spoke.
” I got a call from Aunt about Uncle Williams’ 50th birthday party tomorrow.” He started, and I pressed my lips together in a thing line, waiting patiently for whatever he had to say. ” So how do we go about it tomorrow? Should we just pretend that our engagement is still on?”
I almost chuckled at his ridiculous idea.
There was no flipping way in hell I would go with him to my Uncle’s place, when we already broke up after I caught him cheating.
” Alessia.” He called in a soft voice that made me almost feel his breath in my ear.
” Don’t worry.” I was quick to interrupt. This conversation had no meaning.
Since I was the one who broke the engagement after I caught him cheating, there was no use hiding or trying to lie to my uncle and Aunt.
I would rather bear the cross alone.
” I will handle it myself. I will let them know that I was the one who called off the engagement.”
My voice was no longer usual. It was filled with sudden hate as I remembered the scene at Rachel’s house.
How Lucas was slamming into her from behind, and the whole room was reeking of sex.
The scene seared deep into my brain forever, and I was sure it would be hard to erase it, not when it kept flashing through my mind, every now and then.
It kept reminding me of the failure that I was.
I had failed to keep my man.
I also failed to protect my relationship, and now, everything was in shambles.
” But won’t it be hard on you? You know Elisa and Emma would mock you so much.” He tried to coax me into giving in, but I won’t.
” I don’t think that’s any of your business, Lucas.” I stated, by voice hoarse with anger and hatred.
Over the past few weeks, I thought I was able to scrap out all the hatred and anger I harboured inside of me because of Lucas cheating and Rachel’s betrayal, but who was I kidding?
The hatred and anger was still there, raging and boiling inside of me.
” I was just trying to help Alessia, and,” he paused for a few seconds, contemplating if he could tell me his next words or not. ” I’m inviting you to my wedding next week.”
I almost chuckled at his words.
We broke up just a month ago, and he is already planning on getting married to Rachel.
Wow, just wow!
” Are you still on the line, Alessia?” He asked when I didn’t say a word.
” Are you that dense, Lucas, or you’re pretending to?” I asked. ” Can’t you read the room? You cheated on me with my best friend and now, you’re also inviting me to your wedding with her?”
My anger was already over the roof, and only a cold shower could turn down the raging anger inside of me.
” Oh, I’m sorry if that hit a spot.” He said, more like a mockery. ” I was just inviting you since you’re my ex-fiance.”
” Okay. Thanks for the invitation. I would be coming with my gifts.” I said, almost choking on my words.
Lucas was silent for a few seconds.
He thought I would decline his invitation, and let him have the upper hand, but hell no. There was no flipping way, I would let him win over me.
” Why are you silent? Did you think I won’t attend?” I smirked on the call. ” I would be coming with my new man.”
” Your new man?” I could almost imagine the four lines on his forehead just above his creased brows.
” Yes. My new man. He will come with me to your wedding, so there’s no problem.”
” Oh.” He stated. ” Okay then, I will send the invitation over.”
Once he was done talking, I hung up, and inhaled sharply.
I almost lost my breath while speaking to him. I felt my heart race even faster inside my ribcage, as it felt like the walls were closing on me.
I wanted to cry my eyes out like I did, the day I found Lucas cheating on me with Rachel, but no matter how much I tried to force the tears out, they weren’t coming.
I could only inhale and exhale slowly until my breath became steady.
My eyes burned with tears, but it never dropped.
After about twenty more minutes, I was able to regain myself.
I started my car and drove off to my apartment.
After taking a cold shower, my mind drifted back to the call with Lucas.
‘ I would be there with my new man.’
Why the fuck did I just said that?
Cassius wasn’t my man and he would never be, but why did I say that to Lucas?
Was that to make him angry or to prove a point?
Now, I have to beg Cassius to come with me to my Ex-fiance’s wedding, what a ridiculous life.
I reached for my phone and gathered the courage in me to dial his number.
After the third ring, a female picked the call and my brows dipped.
I felt my stomach churn and twist in a feeling that I could point a finger at.
I shouldn’t be jealous.
I can’t be jealous.
Cassius wasn’t mine, he is a stranger I didn’t know anything about, though, other than his name.
Those were the words I was feeding my brain and mind, but my brain wasn’t ready to obey, as it kept sending jealousy to the pit of my stomach.
” Who are you?” I didn’t know when those words slipped out of my lips.
” And who the fuck are you?” The female voice replied.
” Give the phone to Cassius. I need to speak with him.”
” Boss?” She called at first, before changing her tone. ” Cassius is in the bathroom. We just finished fucking.”
I didn’t understand how I felt after she said those words.
Anger, jealousy, insecurities.
The same feeling I felt when I caught Lucas fucking Rachel.
I couldn’t save my relationship, and now, the same thing happened with Cassius.
It wasn’t like we really had anything going on, but the fact that he left me to shag another woman despite his injury, was so annoying.
I didn’t even let the lady say any more words before hanging up.
