I opened my eyes, for some reason I was warm, too warm. I looked down to see Christian’s head on my chest and his hands were wrapped around me tightly, there was no escape.
The more I tried to wiggle out of him, the more his hold tightened and his head shot up. For a moment, I was scared because of the cold and dead look he gave me, but, he smiled it led to that his beautiful signature laugh.
“Going somewhere?” He asked and he laid back down on my chest as if he didn’t just stare at me like I was a serial killer.
“Bathroom” I told him and he grumbled something like a spoilt child before he rolled off and let me pass.
“You know, if you want to make sure I’m still in bed when you wake up, you can just strap me to the bed with chains and handcuffs, your hands are like steel”
It was not a lie of flattery. Chains and handcuffs would be better, I stretched my body and felt tension in the place his hands had held me.
“I’ll keep it in mind” he said in a voice that stirred something deep. I turned to him and he was smirking at me devilishly.
He was so beautiful, I almost melted under his intense stare. I went to the bathroom and the first thing my eyes went to was the mirror and my reflection.
Thank goodness, my belly was still flat. Years of working out was still saving me. I was going to see my mother today and even though I was ready to tell the world about Christian and I… I couldn’t still look her in the eye.
I stared at the engagement ring, even though Marcellino knew about my relationship with Christian, I wouldn’t ask him to tell my mum. My mind went to the fact that Christian had to pay him to keep quiet, but she will still find out later.
Wasn’t it money wasted, he knew and yet because he loves me, he still did it. I was selfish.
I took my bath and when I came back to the mirror, I smiled at my reflection.
You’re doing great ” I whispered to it like an affirmation.
“You are” Christian purred.
I spun around, and almost lost my balance.
He was standing in the doorway and leaning on the frame.
“How did you get there without me hearing you?”
“Stealth, Baby ” he said and smiled at me.
“Where did you learn to be so.. still?”
“I was born with it.. it probably came from my dad because you can hear my mum’s footsteps from a mile away”
True, you could hear Christian’s footsteps banging the floor, whether it was marble or hardwood.. but that was when he was trying to announce his presence, many times, too many times, I never heard his footsteps at all, no matter the manner of shoes his wore, it was always wore if he was barefoot.
He was the master of sneaking up on people, the prime predator. I turned back to my reflection and found my cheeks were rosy. Every aspect of him turned me on. Every primal aspect of him.
“I’m going to have to take off the ring” I said meeting his eyes in the mirror.
The light in his eyes dimmed and his shoulders sagged but he nodded frantically, convincing himself it was necessary.
“Okay” he said.
“Are you coming?” I asked him.
“You think I’ll leave you alone with those two?”
I wanted to tell him that my mum would never hurt me but it was not true, it was a blatant lie.
“Sometimes, I used to wonder if my mum really wanted to have me or… She used me to trap my dad or.. I was a mistake”
Christian’s eyes darkened, not with sadness, oh no, that was pure and unfiltered rage.
“What did she do that made you feel that way?”
“She never acted like she loved me when we were alone. Sometimes I even talk to her and there would be no reply, she would ignore me. Anytime someone is in the room with us, I’m her beloved daughter, anytime we’re alone, I’m invisible. As a child I even started to think I was a ghost and she was really not seeing me”
I shuddered at the thought.
Certain memories that I thought was forgotten, now flashed before my eyes.
“I’m here ” Christian said, his soft and reassuring voice calmed me and his hands were on me, holding me to keep my balance.
I laughed.
“What’s so funny?”
“I didn’t hear you walk from there to here”
He shook his head.
“I love you crazy wife to be”
I giggled and he hugged me, this time there was no humour in his voice when he said.
“I’m sorry for not finding you earlier, I’m sorry that it took three years before I worked up the balls to talk to you, I’m sorry… If, if I was there, you would have never seen your dad get shot, he would have never gotten shot”
I held him tight.
“I would have saved you from every harm, I would have saved you from your mother. The times she refused to do anything to save you from hunger after your father died, I would have been there”
Memories, with razor sharp claws splashed my skin and I trembled.
“But I’m here now, my love, I’m here and I swear that they’ll never harm you, I’ll be dead before someone lays a wicked finger on you ”
I buried my face in his face and he held me.
“How did you know…” I asked him, I didn’t tell him much that day.
“I dug deep” he said and I knew that no matter how hard I asked him, he wouldn’t tell me, for my own good, certainly. “I still want to hear the complete story from you though ” he said and I nodded.
I slid the ring off my finger and placed it safe in the drawer, amongst other jewelries. There were plenty of them, pure diamond, previous stones and yet they weren’t in a safe… No, they were stored in a bathroom drawer because even these things were loose change for him.
Her went into the walk in shower and started taking his bath. I left the bathroom and went into the closet, I searched for something that would not be too flashy in ‘I’am a billionaire’s fiancee ‘ way.. I needed to look like ‘I’am still Jenna ‘
I found a perfect peach coloured dress and pearl earrings. I brushed my hair thoroughly and found two beautiful pearl hair pins and parted it in the middle and held it by the sided, I did my makeup and found peach coloured pumps that I didn’t remember buying. When I stood in front of the mirror, I almost bowed to my reflection.
