Flynn watched as Lorenzo Sonego rushed towards him without blinking an eye. He gently pushed Molly aside and stepped forward.
“Not dodging and daring to come at me to die? How arrogant! I’ll break your bones inch by inch until you hand over the medical book!” Lorenzo Sonego fiercely threw a punch, aiming straight for Flynn’s shoulder.
If that punch landed, Flynn’s right arm would explode into a mist of blood.
But at that moment, a stern voice accompanied by an icy chill swept through.
“Stop!”
The voice exploded like thunder behind everyone, and a figure rushed towards Lorenzo Sonego like a high-speed train.
“Boom!”
A loud impact sounded.
Layla Woods’ fist struck Lorenzo Sonego’s arm, blocking the fierce attack for Flynn.
However, Lorenzo Sonego was a Lesser Sovereign. Even though Lorenzo Sonego only used thirty percent of his power, Layla Woods felt pain in her wrist from blocking the punch and staggered back several meters.
“Ms. Woods?” Lorenzo Sonego was about to launch another attack when he suddenly recognized the person in front of him.
Wasn’t this Dr. Woods who cured his master’s grandfather?
They met six months ago at the Komatsu Conglomerate headquarters. The boss said that he would give Layla Woods an opportunity to repay her.
That was when Layla Woods requested an investment of ten billion dollars from him.
Flynn’s face darkened.
So, these two women thought they could just come into his place without permission?
Like it was their own home?
At that moment, Scarlet returned with bags of groceries in her hands.
Seeing Lilia Hussain and a man in the courtyard and sensing the tension in the air, she hurriedly ran over to Molly and whispered, “What’s going on? I just went to buy groceries, and now there’s a fight happening here.”
Molly was also stunned.
She didn’t expect Layla Woods to suddenly appear.
She didn’t know how to explain the situation for a moment.
Lilia Hussain was even more shocked and stammered nervously, “L-Layla Woods, why are you here?”
Layla Woods glanced at her askew and walked straight towards Lorenzo Sonego.
Lilia Hussain couldn’t help but shiver, feeling a coldness in Layla Woods’ gaze as if she were looking at a stranger.
No, Layla Woods wouldn’t even look at a stranger with that kind of gaze!
There was a mixture of resentment and suppressed anger in her gaze.
For the first time in their twenty-year acquaintance, Lilia Hussain saw Layla Woods look at her with such eyes.
“I wonder what brings Ms. Woods here,” Lorenzo said coldly. “Are you trying to protect this business rival of yours?”
Layla Woods replied indifferently, “No matter how much trouble arises in business, it’s a matter between us Ostradian people.”
“You don’t get to dictate anything, especially not when it comes to stealing formulas from Ostrad!”
She didn’t like Flynn, but she certainly wouldn’t allow anyone from Wakasa to act recklessly in Ostrad.
That was her bottom line.
No personal grievances could overshadow her loyalty to her country!
Not long after leaving Lilia Hussain’s place, she received a call from Kimber Doyle-Lilia Hussain and Lorenzo Sonego had met and were headed to Plenilune Mountain together.
Layla Woods decided to check it out.
When she arrived outside Thodell Mansion, she didn’t go in right away. Instead, she used her good hearing to eavesdrop, wanting to know Lilia Hussain’s intentions with Lorenzo Sonego.
What she found out left her disappointed.
In fact, it was a mix of despair and anger.
Her best friend, who she had helped for ten years, had actually assisted Takada Kazuo!
Lilia Hussain and she had such a close relationship and had never had a real fight. Their interactions were always comfortable.
But the reality was that Lilia Hussain had lost her sanity in her quest to take down the Sharp’s Group and punish Flynn.
Was fame and fortune really worth sacrificing all her principles?
Had she no shame?
Betraying one’s own country was the greatest disgrace!
Helping the longtime enemy Wakasa was an insult beyond measure! How could Lilia Hussain dare?!
If people didn’t love their motherland, how could they be expected to love anyone else?
Lorenzo Sonego said, taken aback before sneering, “Ms. Woods, you healed my master’s grandfather, and in return, my master invested ten billion in you. We’re even.”
“If you try to stop me from getting that medical book today, I won’t hold back. Killing a Grandmaster like you would be a breeze!”
Layla Woods seemed unfazed by the threat. Instead, she laughed softly, “You could kill me, but do you think you’d be able to leave Ostrad alive afterward?”
She locked eyes with Lorenzo, her voice booming like thunder, her gaze sharp as a sword.
Her face was as cold as ice, and her eyes glinted with determination.
With a slight smile at the corners of her mouth, she revealed an air of unyielding pride.
At that moment, Layla Woods once again showcased her commanding presence, one that could make even the fiercest of foes bow down.
Feeling the intensity of her challenge made Lorenzo Sonego’s expression shift, and he furrowed his brows as he reassessed her earlier words.
This woman had been a bit reckless.
She was too powerful in the medical field. Most of Wakasan conglomerates knew her name.
Her influence in Ostrad was unmatched.
Everyone outside the top circles of Ostrad had to give her face.
It was possible she had saved some martial artists as well.
If he killed Layla Woods, it might indeed lead to countless forces hunting him down.
With that thought, Lorenzo Sonego’s killing intent gradually faded. He shot a cold glance at Flynn and said to Layla Woods with a sneer, “Since Ms. Woods wants to protect him, let’s call it a day!”
His words weren’t meant for Layla Woods.
Lorenzo Sonego was like a wolf. Now that he spotted his prey, he wouldn’t easily let it go.
This time, Layla Woods intervened, so he decided to let Flynn go, However, he didn’t believe she would always be by Flynn’s side!
Lorenzo Sonego turned and walked out of the courtyard.
Flynn didn’t stop him. Killing Lorenzo Sonego would be pointless. He was just a lapdog, and it might draw unwanted attention from Komatsu Conglomerate.
Better to deal with him in four days.
“I misunderstood you that day at Grand Health,” Layla Woods said, turning to Flynn.
Molly and Scarlet couldn’t believe their ears.
Layla Woods actually apologized to Flynn?!
Just two months ago, that would have seemed utterly impossible!
But to Flynn, it was a case of acknowledging mistakes. Layla’s only redeeming quality was her willingness to admit when she was wrong.
After Flynn killed Takada Kazuo at Grand Health, he told her that Lilia Hussain might be complicit.
At the time, Layla Woods dismissed it, thinking Flynn was trying to sow discord between her and Lilia Hussain.
Now she realized how wrong she had been.
She felt embarrassed and somewhat guilty for not trusting Flynn’s judgment.
Flynn shrugged, choosing not to comment.
This was Lilia Hussain’s mess, and he didn’t care to weigh in. Still, it was somewhat satisfying to see Layla Woods humbled. At least he wouldn’t have to hear her nagging anymore.
But the next second, Flynn realized he was mistaken. The situation was far from resolved!
“Lilia Hussain bringing Lorenzo Sonego to kill you was our fault. I chased him off, so we’re even.”
“But that doesn’t mean everything is fine between us. Once we find that assassin from Northview, if he proves he was hired by you, I won’t hesitate to kill you!”
With that, Layla Woods turned and left.
What the hell!
Was this woman out of her mind?
Couldn’t she let it go?
Did he really seem that petty to her?
Flynn felt his anger boiling.
Lilia Hussain followed her like a child caught misbehaving, and once they were outside Thodell Mansion, she timidly began, “Layla Woods, let me explain. It’s not what you think…”
Layla Woods stopped in her tracks, turning to Lilia with a frosty expression. “What’s important isn’t how things happened. What matters is that you provided Komatsu Conglomerate with Ostradian corporate information, allowing them to steal many formulas.”
“You have shown me no respect, repeatedly deceiving me, and you have no regard for the medical field.”
“I’m very angry, very unhappy, and I don’t want to deal with you anymore. Take care of yourself.”
