“Sorry” I murmured and followed him I to the bedroom. I tried to catch up to him but he was indeed, fast.
“We’re leaving” he said, his voice was still and cold.
“Because I lied to you about food, you want us to leave” he turned to me.
Dear god, any other person would run away from that stare. It was like molten steel was dancing behind his eyes, it was scary and intimidating. My legs wobbled but I gave none of my fear away.
“You lied to me about someone calling you. I thought somehow, someone had gotten a hold of your number and___” he didn’t complete his statement but his eyes went from hard and daunting , to vulnerable and scared.
He let his mask fall but placed it up again before I i could speak about it.
“We’re leaving ”
“What is it?”
“Jenna… Go and take your bath and wait in the living room while I gather our things. We’re going back ”
I kicked my self mentally. I had ruined everything, this beautiful man was happy this morning, happy.
“I’m sorry ”
“Doesn’t make a difference”
Even with this tight shoulders and his angry face, I dared to ask.
“What are you so afraid of?”
He stilled, like a statue.
His chest didn’t and fall, no sign of inhaling or exhaling.
Then he broke and turned to me.
“What are you so afraid of Chris, tell me” my voice was just a whisper, it was all I could manage at this point.
“Losing you”
“I’m not going anywhere”
“They will snatch you against you will. They’ll take you from me”
“No one is separating us”
His eyes fell to my ring, the one the jewelrer had carved and sent to me the same day we came back from the hospital, and then my belly.
“I’m trying to see it. I can’t, I was happy here on this island. Save for Adeline and some other busy bodies, you’re only nine and there are no threats. I’m confident that no one here can take you away from me, until you ruined it”
I shook my head.
Indeed, he was the one that needed to see the therapist.
“Just, take your bath and get dressed ” he said softly.
I regretted my lie, I wished I could take it back.
“I’m sorry ”
He pointed to the bathroom in response.

Once again, he was in a suit.
Dressed as the wealthy CEO he is, but these days we’ve been here. He had been in nothing but armless tops and shorts, sometimes he was even totally naked… Casual was what I could call it.
He looked very young, too young but now, k almost called him sir.
“How long would the flight take?” I asked.
“Not long” he replied some seconds later than necessary.
Kaylee turned from the passenger seat and just shook her head, and gave me a look that told me to leave him be.
I played with my fingers as we reached the airport and waited in the first class lounge. I sat back in my seat and closed my eyes.
“Let’s go” Christian said, I followed behind him.
The flight was not long, as he had said but it was still longer then I expected.
In few minutes, we were driving towards Christian’s house.
“I sold your house and bought another one”
I gasped.
“But I haven’t even been there for three months” I compliment.
“I know. The memories, I can’t stand being inside and I wanted to save you the trouble”
Kylee coughed and opened her mouth to say something but then clamped it shut again until she finally mustered the courage to speak to Christian. She knew his moods and immediately she saw him, she avoided him like a plague. She seemed to shrink I to shadow so that he wouldn’t notice her presence.
I almost scoffed. Christian was just a big baby. He was scary and all of that but he has shown me all of him, the deepest and cruelest parts and I knew that behind that beast, was a scared little child, that needed nothing but… Nothing but me. He would never harm me. Never.
“Jenna… Your mother called me” I thought she was about to speak to Christian but instead she was talking to me, now that I think about it, she must have been contemplating asking him for permission.
“Elisa called, when?” Christian cut in.
“This morning… She said she is not well and she needs Jenna at the hospital”
Hospital?” I asked, fear was creeping into me.
“What’s wrong with her?” Christian asked in my stead and I was thankful for it.
Kaylee shrugged.
“I don’t know, she wouldn’t tell me”
“She might be lying” Christian said.
“Excuse me?”
He turned to me.
“I said, she might be lying. I’ll send someone over to check up on her. If she’s really in a hospital”
“I don’t need a stranger spying on my mother”
Christian literally ignored me.
“I’m going. What hospital?”
“Jenna” Christian said my name in a warning.
“You can’t be serious ”
“There are things you don’t know about. I’m not letting you go to see her unless I’ve confirmed it’s safe ”
“My mother would never hurt me”
“Oh…?” He asked, his face set in a hard grim snarl. This, I was really scared of. “She would never hurt you, but the second time those loan sharks came to the house to see if they’ve really done enough damage, she sent you out to distract them in the living room while she escaped through to the back door, she did not return home until the next morning… A mother that would never hurt you”
Kylee gasped, I had never told anyone about it.
“How did you know?’
“I get any information I want, any. I’ll check to see if your mother is really sick as she claims and if she is, I’ll go with you to the hospital”
“As my escort” I snapped back.
“As your loyal and humble servant, my queen ” he smiled devilishly but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
A shiver ran down my spine and I instantly felt too cold.
Once the car stopped in front of the house, I dashed out and pressed the code the big heavy doors opened and I walked in, stomped to my bedroom and locked the door.
