Darnell’s note had a vividly drawn little turtle.
Its presence left Frank, Rachael, Jefferson, and Karlee all in a state of disbelief.
Everyone initially thought that Darnell had switched the note with the turtle drawing for a blank one before putting it into the plastic cup, ensuring Amber would reveal a blank note and secure his victory.
As long as Amber revealed a blank note, it would mean Darnell’s note had the turtle, allowing him to win effortlessly.
Amber saw through this trick and quickly tore her note into pieces and threw it out the window, forcing Darnell to reveal his blank note.
Amber wanted Darnell to suffer the consequences and planned to expose his trick after winning, humiliating him thoroughly.
But unexpectedly, Darnell’s note wasn’t blank. It actually had a turtle. This meant Amber lost. She stood up in disbelief and screamed, “Impossible! This is impossible!”
Amber wanted to retrieve her note to investigate, but it was already torn and scattered somewhere unknown.
“Yeah!”
While Amber screamed in disbelief, Jefferson high-fived Karlee in celebration. “We won! We won!”
No one expected such a dramatic turn of events. The sure winner didn’t win, and the supposed loser did.
Rachael staggered a step. “How is this possible? How?”
“What’s impossible?”
Jefferson exhaled deeply, feeling more invigorated than ever. “Two notes on the table, you picked first, Amber. It was fair and square. What’s impossible?”
“Can’t handle losing? I lost forty million without saying it was impossible. You want to renege over five million? That’s petty.”
Karlee looked at Amber with amusement. “Want to bet a few more rounds?”
Amber suddenly quieted down and sat back, looking at Darnell with a probing gaze.
Rachael, however, was furious and screamed at Darnell, “You cheated! You must have drawn turtles on both notes.”
Frank chimed in, “Yes, you must have played tricks. You’re shameless.”
Losing the Lamborghini and five million made Frank very upset and unwilling to accept this outcome.
“You’re the shameless ones.”
Jefferson brought Darnell a cup of tea with joy in his step, then stood with his hands on his hips and sneered at Frank and Rachael.
“Cheating? Use your brains. If both notes had turtles, Amber would have just revealed hers, and you would’ve won.”
“If you revealed the turtle, Mr. Halford would lose no matter what he revealed.”
“If it is blank, it means he loses. If it has a turtle on it, it means he cheated, because there should only be one turtle.”
Jefferson was righteous. “Why didn’t Amber dare reveal her note?”
“Now that you’ve lost and torn up the note, you accuse Mr. Halford of cheating? Have you no shame?”
Frank and Rachael were furious but knew they were being unreasonable.
“I lost this round.”
After her initial overreaction, Amber leaned back in her chair and swirled her wine glass. “Darnell, you’re lucky.”
She thought Darnell was pretending to be weak but now doubted it since his expression seemed genuine. If he were pretending, he deserved an Oscar.
Besides, if Darnell truly had gambling skills, Jefferson and Karlee wouldn’t have tried to stop him from betting in the first place, and the stakes wouldn’t be a mere five million.
His win was purely a matter of luck!
Amber quickly devised a response plan and threw out five checks.
Five million!
Darnell took the checks and pocketed them. “I am lucky indeed. Drawing a turtle earned me five million.”
Jefferson was thrilled even though he didn’t win. Seeing Amber lose was satisfying enough.
As Karlee marveled at Darnell’s surprises, Amber tossed out a Ferrari’s car keys.
“I accept my loss! But I don’t want to crawl out of here barking like a dog. I’ll use this car instead and bet another round for ten million.”
She believed she could win another round without letting Darnell exploit any loopholes again.
Winning one round would allow Amber to recover everything from Darnell and make Karlee cry home.
The Ferrari keys gleamed, keys Jefferson had lost, making him feel awkward seeing them again.
“This car should be worth several hundred thousand.”
Darnell commented as he looked at the Ferrari keys briefly before tossing them back. “But I’d rather see you crawl out barking three times.”
Amber’s face darkened. Darnell continued playing with the Lamborghini keys nonchalantly.
“I have millions of dollars, and I have luxury cars too. So I don’t need these. I want to see you crawl out of here.”
“After all, I’ve never seen such a beautiful lady crawl out like a dog.”
The room fell silent in shock at Darnell’s ruthlessness for not giving any chance for redemption.
As Amber’s face turned extremely sour, Jefferson burst into laughter, releasing his pent-up frustration, and gave Darnell a thumbs-up.
Karlee laughed too. “I’d like to see that as well.”
“How about another ten million?”
Amber felt she had been defeated unexpectedly. She threw out Jefferson’s riverside house’s property deed.
But Darnell remained unmoved and pushed it back. “Miss Wilkes, start crawling.”
“I can’t wait any longer.”
Karlee smiled slightly, “Amber, aren’t you known for being flexible? What’s wrong with crawling out of here?”
“If it were anyone else, they would be flocking to save over ten million just by climbing a few hundred meters. Who would be so arrogant as to act like you do.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t be as nasty as you think. I won’t call people over to watch you crawl like a dog.”
She raised her phone with a smile. “I’ll just record it for my personal enjoyment.”
Jefferson even lay on the ground mockingly. “How about I crawl out for ten million?”
Rachael shouted angrily, “Don’t go too far!”
Frank echoed her anger. “You’ll get your comeuppance!”
“Twenty million!”
To quickly put an end to this farce and avoid humiliation, Amber offered an enticing sum. “Is that enough?”
However, Darnell shook his head. “Not interested.”
“A mere twenty million? My woman has that much too.”
Amber’s expression turned slightly angry. “Darnell, do you really have to be this ruthless?”
