~ISSA
I did not want this conversation to continue with Yulia present…
But she was no longer a child by werewolf standard and she seemed like she was interested in talking to Khan which greatly displeased me.
I could see her clearly blushing as Jamal paid attention to her. I had cut the small talk between them short and in doing so heard what I had been afraid to hear.
“You took the words right out of my mouth, Lycan Issa,” Khan said to me with renewed interest in his eyes. “Perhaps you know something that I don’t.”
Nocturnal prick! I hated how he threw around accusations left and right like he was the judge, the jury and executioner.
“I am old, Detective Khan,” I replied with mockery. “I have seen things.”
“What do you plan to do?” Yulia asked him.
“Find out what their plan is and stop them before they execute it,” He said.
“And who are they?” I asked.
“I am still working on that,” Jamal replied.
“You do not know anything yet and your only leads are dead bodies, understood.” I deliberately threw his incompetence at him.
I watched him stiffen but it had been so subtle. Jackpot! He was sensitive about being called incompetent. Typical cop ego.
“Come off it, Issa,” Deucalion said after taking a sip from his glass cup. “Detective Khan is one of the best detectives I have come across, it’s only a matter of time before he cracks this one.”
“Flattery will not stop me from putting chains on your hand Deucalion,” Jamal shit back, his tone was casual but I knew he meant it. “And Alpha Issa is not the first person to question my experience.”
I have known Deucalion a very long time. We had survived many things together so I knew some, if not all of his habits and traits.
“With the way you are up his ass,” I said to Deucalion. “I am suspecting you want something from the detective.”
“Yes,” Deucalion replied. “I want him to come work for me.”
“And I will tell you the same thing, I have always said,” Jamal cut in. “I am not for sale and I have sworn my expertise to the Nocturnal Force.”
“You want to hire the detective that is gunning for you?” Amusement filled my face.
“He knows how to find things, Issa,” Deucalion said excitedly. “Anything!”
Deucalion liked to own things that amazed him. And yes, it included creatures and talents that he fancied.
“Really?” Yulia asked wide eyed as she watched Jamal with what I hated to call admiration.
“He has The Gift,” Deucalion said.
The Gift Deucalion was talking about was an extra special ability that a few Werewolves were born with. It was called The Gift because it came from the Wolf God if he found favour in a pack, a werewolf or an Alpha.
“Could you help me find my mom’s killers?” Yulia asked out of the blue and I stiffened.
Jamal frowned with concern. “Your mother was killed?”
I hated what was happening right now. Yulia and her big mouth!
“Marianna’s death is not up for discussion,” I told Yulia.
“What?” Yulia asked in disbelief. “If I understand you correctly, you are saying that I do not have the right to talk about my mom? I don’t have a right to know?”
“The girl has a point, Issa,” Deucalion said to me. “That’s harsh even from you.”
I did not want Detective Khan meddling in my affairs especially when it involved Yulia. I was not comfortable with her hanging around Jamal.
‘Look at you being all possessive,’ Iran whispered in my head.
“No one has the right to deny you the closure you need, Yulia, remember that,” Jamal stated, which only infuriated me even further.
This piece of shit was making me look like the bad person! What Khan did not realise was that, the closer Yulia got to the truth about Marianna, the closer to danger she was.
I could not let that happen.
“No one is denying her anything, I just want to protect my niece from danger,” I stated.
“So you admit her death was an homicide.” Jamal’s eyes grew more suspicious as he glared at me.
Damn, he was good.
“I never denied that fact. I want to know more than ever who is behind my sister’s death but I like to know my enemies first before blindly groping for answers,” I said.
“Can I come talk to you whenever you have time?” Yulia asked him.
Jamal reached into his inner jacket and brought out his card. “Call me whenever you are ready to talk.”
I was filled with rage and was tempted to let Iran out as Yulia took the card from Khan. Now she had his contact. That did not sit right with me. Yulia was mine and she needed the number of no one else.
What made this whole thing much worse was that I could not say anything about her being my Mate. That would only invite more danger to her because of the people looking for her.
I saw the look of satisfaction on Andrea’s face as I caught her looking at me with amusement in her eyes. She knew that I was seething with Jealousy as I watched what was going on between Yulia and Jamal.
My phone buzzed at the right time, it served as a little distraction from what was taking place before me. I reached into my pocket to see the message.
It was from Leia.
‘Just so you know,’ The message read. ‘We find it so hot to see you jealous. Are you sure she is really your niece?’
I switched off the screen and returned my phone back into my inner pocket as I gritted my teeth with anger.
It was none of their business what Yulia was to me.
I needed to get rid of Khan somehow. It was true that he answered to no one but there was a catch. He reported to someone or an organisation. After all, The Nocturnal Force had a chain of command, I just had to find who the boss was.
I needed Jamal Khan out of the picture.
