UNKNOWNS POV
After a couple of days of stalking the bar and the bartender.
We decided to move after the bar had emptied out one night. The girl had left, and the Alpha had not returned, but something was still lingering in the air-a sense of impending danger.
The streets were eerily quiet as we followed her trail. She had gone down one of the side alleys, and we were determined not to lose her this time.
I wasn’t sure what it was about her. She was human, at least that’s what it seemed. But the way she had interacted with the Alpha… it didn’t add up.
We were walking into something much bigger than we realized.
Suddenly, we heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps behind us. A faint rustling, just out of sight.
“Keep your eyes open,” I muttered. We weren’t alone. And I had a feeling we were about to find out exactly why this town felt so strange.
The night air had turned colder, an unnatural chill creeping through the alleyways, sending a shiver down my spine. I felt it then-an unsettling presence, like a weight pressing down on me from all sides. It wasn’t just the silence of the empty streets; something else lingered, a palpable tension that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
“Did you hear that?” Finn whispered, his voice barely audible over the wind’s howl. His hand shifted to the hilt of his knife, his eyes scanning the shadows. He wasn’t the type to get nervous, but there was no denying it now: we were being watched.
Riker didn’t say anything, but I could see the same unease flickering in his eyes. I didn’t need to say anything. We had been hunted before, and it felt like it was happening again. But this time, something was different. The usual sense of freedom-the thrill of the hunt-was gone, replaced by the suffocating feeling of being trapped.
“Maybe it’s just the wind,” I muttered, but I didn’t believe it.
Suddenly, I caught a flicker of movement out of the corner of my eye, followed by a blur of shadow. My heart pounded in my chest, adrenaline flooding my veins. Before I could even react, the sound of heavy and deliberate footfalls echoed in the alleyway. And then they came.
There were a dozen warriors-no, more-too many to count, too quick to track. The moment they emerged from the shadows, it was like the world itself shifted. The air thickened with power, with purpose. Every one of them moved in perfect synchrony, their eyes cold and calculating.
I barely had time to register the danger before the first warrior lunged. A blur of motion and then pain shot through my side like a searing brand. I staggered back, drawing my own blade, but it was already too late. A second warrior was on me before I could even make a move, his fist crashing into my ribs with a force that knocked the breath out of me.
“Ambush!” I gasped, but it was drowned out by the chaos of the attack. The warriors descended upon us like a storm, fierce and relentless.
Finn cursed, fighting with everything he had, but it was clear-this wasn’t a fight we could win. The warriors weren’t just skilled-they were stronger. Faster. They weren’t here to capture us; they were here to wipe us out.
I managed to get in a few strikes, but they were easily blocked, dodged, and countered. My heart pounded as I desperately searched for a way out, but there was no escape. The alley was closing in on us, the warriors like a wall of unrelenting force.
“Dammit,” I hissed through gritted teeth. “We’re too exposed.”
A scream ripped through the air as Finn went down. I turned, but it was too late. One of the warriors had taken him by surprise, sinking a dagger deep into his side. His body crumpled to the ground, lifeless, before he even hit the dirt.
“Finn!” Riker yelled, but the warriors were already on him.
I was next. One of them grabbed me by the throat, lifting me off the ground with terrifying ease. I kicked and struggled, but the grip tightened. The world was spinning, and my vision was narrowing. I gasped for air, desperate, but it was like trying to breathe through water.
I could not help but think about the girl again. The human girl who had caught the Alpha’s attention.
Why was she important? I thought desperately as the darkness crept in at the edges of my vision. The girl-the Alpha’s interest in her, the strange connection-everything about her didn’t add up. She wasn’t like the others. There was something about her, something powerful hidden behind those wide, innocent eyes.
The warrior’s grip tightened, and I could feel my life slipping away with every passing second. My thoughts were clouded, my breath rasping, my limbs growing heavy.
Then, just before the last breath left me, one final thought pierced through the fog of pain:
Damn… this human girl really was important.
And then everything went dark.
